PortaMx v1.54 with a full featured Category / Article management
and Search Engine Friendly url's (SEF) option and ECL option for SMF 2
PortaMx have many features like a Category and Articles Management and a option for Search Engine Friendly url's. We use the SMF Integrations hooks extensive, so we need over 50% less changes on the SMF files. All basic files like the function for the Integration, caching and the SEF module (if enabled) are loaded automatically on SMF startup. All the additional Menus and functions also created with SMF hooks.
Because we continue the PortaMx philosophy to make the portal better and faster, we use extensive caching for all the new features. So it's recommended, to enable the caching in SMF. Of course works all without caching, but not so fast.
The new Category / Article system is high configurable in all options like access inherit and visualization. Follow setup options we have:
- The first Article is shown and all other Articles in the Category are linked in a sidebar.
- All Articles shown in one page with paginating.
- Inherit the access right from a Category to the Articles in it, so it's easy to handle the rights (simple give the articles no rights). This suppressed also, that the Article itself can be requested.
- Categories and Articles can be used as static elements on the Front page (Category / Article blocks).
- Both can requested in the same way as a Single page request (cat=category-name, art=article-name).
We have expanded the overview screen (Blocks, Articles and Categories Manager) with new settings elements, they works in a Pop up window. With this it's easy and fast to change the most important settings, like title, position, access and more. You can update a single Block or all Blocks in the Panel.
Also we expand and redesign the dynamic visibility option, specially the customer actions. These have now logical AND and OR functionality, can handle any request type and also sub actions like action=pm;sa=send. For this we will create a separate documentation.
Many users asked us, to add Search Engine Friendly url's to the Portal and so we do that in this release. The SEF module that we created is based on SimpleSEF, but completely rewritten. We create easy and "speeking" url's (without comma) in the format, which is proposed by Google.
Of course we have implemented all the Url's they used for the Portal like Single pages, Categories and Articles. The SEF module have various settings, but normaly you can use the default settings without any change. Furthermore we also can convert url's, they created by SimpleSEF, like board_## and topic_##.
Finally we give the Portal his own Right Management.
With this you can give any SMF group the rights to create, edit and delete own Articles, a group to moderate Articles and a group to moderate the Blocks in enabled Panels. At least you can give a SMF group Portal Administrator rights. This group have full access to ALL Portal functions (except update), but NO access to any SMF Administrator functions. All these function are linked in the users Profile menu.

Very nice mod feline, well done :)
I am sure that you will make happy a lot of people with this.
Yeah.....congratulations!
This is an excellent integration/extension of SMF. :D
Really nice mod , thanks for your awesome job with this and the felblogs
Wow, this is amazing. :)
Nice work
good mod
in future i will update portuguese and brazlian
thank you
Thanks .. I hope this help, that more peoples use the great SMF 2.0 ... ;)

If this works as well as Your Blog Mod I am sure it will be great
Congrats!!!.........
Congradulations on finally getting this approved feline. Its great to see another good looking Portal, especially for SMF 2 Beta. ;D
finally one portal for smf 2.0
Well it looks nice. I was looking for an alternative to TP since it won't work for 2.0.x
I tried this on a clean install of SMF 2.0 Beta 4 via the package manager, and it didn't install. I mean it threw an error page advising me that it failed to open the mainindex.php. So looking through the files server side, I found there was a very good reason for this. The file wasn't there. In fact, none of the files were there. Everywhere that a PortaMx folder was supposed to have been installed, there was a blank text document installed instead.
SO, I then deleted the blank files, manually created the required folders and ftp'd the files into the folders. The trouble with this is, the sheer number of folders, sub folders, images, and files makes this dodgy work at best. Anyway, I finally regained my forum (something besides an error page) I still saw no portal nor any admin functions. There was a blank tab on the nav bar, which I can only assume was meant for the portal, but which would not produce one. Good news though! After an hour of installing folders, files, and images, I was able to access my package manager again, and uninstall PortaMx. Yay me.
At any rate, I'm certain that this was tested, so I'm not sure what went wrong with my installation. It LOOKS great in the screen caps.
Great Portal feline, thanks for all your work so far 8) 8)
Installed without a hitch via the package manager :D

I have to admire your determination...I am not sure what happened with your install, but I am very surprised that you managed to uninstall in spite of all the installation problems.
I had just installed this mod on my local (smf2beta4/xampp/windows) without any problems. My current test site of PortaMx with most of the available mods for smf2 is in my signature. :D
Congratulations on the release. :)

If the install with the packed manager on you server not works, you can that make on a local server. After that, copy all changed files to your server, create the database tables and load with the content from your local install.
I can help in the most situations, with a fpt and admin account.

Yo Trin, I just threw this up on my local. Installation on a vanilla Beta 4 was flawless with zero error messages in the log after installation. I haven't gone through all the config possibilities yet but it's looking good. I'll set up an online test bed and give it a bit of a thrashing. If it works I'll admin you so you can take a squiz.
@Feline: looking good so far but the front page styles don't match the forum and for what I'm planning this is seriously going to be a problem. I'm going to need total menu (ie: tabs/toolbar) integration between the forum and the home page. Is this possible with your portal? If it can't be configured to run whatever menu system I use in my customised themes then unfortunately you're out of the running.

You can set the frontpage block in a fullsize area, inside the forum area or skip the frontpage. Can be set in setting menu.
It's that what you mean?
Fel
No. What I mean is I want to run several custom themes that have their own custom drop menus, which of course are styled to suit. Tiny Portal will handle this without any problems. I want to know if your portal can be made to do the same.
IOW, what I want is for the front page to display exactly the same tabs/drop menu arrangement as is displayed in the forum.
As an example here's one of my 1.1.x themes (http://www.councilofexmuslims.com/Demos_n_downloads/index.php) running TP. I want a portal that will do this for any themes I choose to run.

First .. you need a smf 2.0 compatible theme.
RSS Feeds coming next time .. all other is available.
Fel
Yep I'm working on converting my themes to SMF 2.
Mulitcolour themes rock. SMF 2 needs them and I want them. :D
Actually I should have looked through your config options before asking questions. I've just found the "Show the frontpage in the Forum area" option which of course does what I want. I assumed the default front page menu was the standard setting. Thanks for replying.
ETA: Btw I like the way you've laid out the Block Manager options. Very smooth. TP is a tad cluttered there.
ETA 2: Oh yeah, I'll be running the SpringWidgets for my RSS feeds anyway which means as long as I have html blocks it's all good. SpringWidgets are great for RSS.

Sweet ante, cos I worked forever on this and could not make it work even on a clean install. Of course it was that day that I hadn't slept in 48 hours, and it's possible that I.. clicked the button wrong? O_o or something. I'll give it a go tomorrow and see if I can make this work.
I uploaded this on beta 4 and now my forum says
Warning: require_once(/home/runws/public_html/forum/Sources/PortaMx/PortaMx.php) [function.require-once]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/runws/public_html/forum/index.php on line 66

Found my problem....I had my translated file named "AdminBlocks.thai.utf8.php" instead of "AdminBlocks.thai-utf8.php". Duh.. :-[
Ok, I'm getting the same problem Trin had.
Although this portal installed perfectly on my local nothing is showing when I install online. Using a vanilla Beta 4 I get all the standard package installation prompts, as well as a message telling me the portal has been installed and redirecting me to the home page.
The only problem is there is no home page. There is no portal admin block either. IOW, all I appear to have is a bog standard SMF forum. This is not quite the desired effect. ;)
ETA: I just checked server side and there are no PortaMX folders installed. All that is there is zero kb files called PortaMX. This explains the missing portal. I also have 504 errors spread over 34 pages in my admin centre log. Hmmm.
Most of the errors are of the following form:
2: copy(/home/cofexm/public_html/beta2kaboom/fckeditor/editor/css/images/fck_flashlogo.gif) [<a href='function.copy'>function.copy</a>]: failed to open stream: Not a directory
Apply Filter: Only show the errors from this file
File: /home/cofexm/public_html/beta2kaboom/Sources/Subs-Package.php
Line: 1604
Update: uninstalled the mod, including manually overwriting all files that failed the uninstall test.
Logged into cpanel and manually preset all relevant files and folders to 777.
Reinstalled PortaMX. Same result. No good.
Since this portal installs and appears to function on my local I assume the problem is something to do with server configuration. Any suggestions?
Thank you :)

Mostly that is a access right problem, so SMF can't create the temp folder inside the package folder.
Fel
Ok, so how do people fix it? What causes it? I'm looking for n00b-proof explanations here.
BTW I want this thing working and it'll have to be tractable for the average member. From what I've seen so far on my local you could knock TP off its perch.
A good way to install ...
First make a local install (using XAMPP or EasyPHP) for SMF and PortaMx.
If this works, copy all the files and folder with ftp to your server, create the portamx tables as you have in your local database and load the content of the tables.
Fel
I appreciate that your method will work but frankly it is not a "good" way to install. It is a hellishly tedious way to install and will put a lot of people off. What you need is a way of making sure the process can be handled by the package manager.
This is meant as constructive criticism.
ETA: By the way I have installed several packages, upgrade patches as well as a variety of mods, and this is the first time I've struck this problem. So although I think it's something to do with server configuration I also have to say that it seems specific to PortaMX. If a way can be found to tweak server settings so that the package manager can then handle the installation you'll be onto a winner. If not you'll be severely restricting your market.
Hmmmm....
Well, I like it!
It installed fine for me on a clean install of SMF and parsed to install correctly on a modified installation (8 mods)
only problem is that the system won't let me save anything in the HTML blocks... I can not change the front page to my own, because the editor just erases my content when I click save. :(

Did you make a backup of your forum before you installed this?
If not, just go to your public html files, and follow the error path public_html > forum > sources > PortaMx > portaMx.php
manually upload the file PortaMx.php and what you will find when you go back to your forum is a NEW error (yay). It will lead you to mainindex.php. Follow the process to upload the required files and you will have access to your forum to uninstall the mod.
Maybe there's a simpler way, but tbh, when I went in to see why I was getting these errors, it was like following a trail of bread crumbs, and my OCD personality had me uploading file after file after file until I got them all. Even doing this, the mod does not function. No portal.

Exactly right. If you can tweak the package itself, you've got a gold mine, fel. but if you can at least give a simple fix that any layman can use in their server settings, you'll at least have a smokin hot mod. If not, people will simply move on to another portal mod as it will be way easier to deal with.

ROFL. I just tested that on my local and it's fine. Saves just like it should. Perhaps this is another minor issue with online configurations.
Strange all these reported problems?? I have yet to have a problem with an install of PortaMx. It installs through the package manager easily, and I can change the frontpage "and" save it as it should. I am no coding freak either. At 58 you look for easily manageable things believe me. I really think the installation difficulties encountered be some users should be looked into. Perhaps it has something to do with some server setup that has trouble with the fckeditor as discussed earlier?

No there is nothing else behind it. Trin and I have nothing against Feline or anyone else here. In fact I had never heard of Feline before she suggested I try her portal. We are simply interested in her portal and are reporting what has happened when we try to get it running. As I have stated I am very impressed with her product and would like to see it accessible.

You can thank Bikken and MaYday for that one. I had nothing to do with it. I'm support staff over at their place and have released a couple of themes based on Outline and Mystic Jade, but I haven't messed around with DS-Natural at all. It's a nice theme though.

K. At the moment the test site is a bit of a mess code-wise, because I was overwriting files to bring the installation back to vanilla but my satellite link kept dropping out last night. It's vulnerable to weather conditions so I gave up.
I'll get onto it this weekend and clean things up, as well as setting up an account for you. I'll also run phpinfo on my local and online server so the differences are easier to spot. It's probably something quite simple to fix once it's found and the information should be useful to others.

??? Like what? I was trawling for a portal that worked with 2.0 and ran across this one. When I uploaded it through the package manager, I got errors. I'm so glad that it works for you and some others, but it doesn't work for me. It's not even a simple issue of installation test errors that can be manually repaired, it tells you that all tests are successful, then you click "install" and when it redirects you... you have NO ACCESS forum side. Just an error page. What else could possibly be behind me reporting a problem that I have with this mod? Do you imagine that I'm a cyber spy for Bloc and have been sent to sabotage his competition? :D
I just need a portal, and simple portal isn't good enough. THIS one is. I've installed it on a local and it's perfect, runs great. I think you have an awesome modification here, feline. I'm of the opinion that if you want it to take off (and it by all rights should be the premier portal for SMF, imo) it has to be package manager friendly for all users. Now, ante and I have been chatting and working with the mod a bit, and we're sure this is a server setting issue. Imagine offering this mod with a simple list of server settings which will guarantee that every user can easily install this mod. You're golden.
QuoteIt's probably something quite simple to fix once it's found and the information should be useful to others.
Great.... :D
Fel, for the moment here are the phpinfo.php readouts for my local and for my online server.
The local is just a standard 1.6.6 XAMPP installation running on XP Pro SP2 in an NTFS partition.
I haven't sorted files and accounts for the online test forum/server yet. I'll do that tonight (my time).
I've also asked Trin to get a readout on her server when she gets a chance. Cheers.

Hey Feline... any idea about the problem I have with the editor not saving my changes for an HTML block?
I try to change the front page HTML block, (not using any code, just text) it writes into the fckeditor box, but when I click save, the text is not saved.

Fel
Thank you Feline. It seems to be working perfectly now. As I thought it was a server configuration issue. This is the solution:
QuoteI found your problem ...
Your webserver run under a user that is NOT the same as the folder and file user (cofexm). The package manager can't modify any file. A copy is created before the change applied (filename with a tilde ~) but no change is applied.
Also I see that your root is not writable (ACP, package manager, file permission).
What do you have to do?
Set your werserver user (apache I think) to the same as the ftp user (cofexm), and also set your root folder to 755.
This is a common problem on the many webhostings.
For now, I have installed PortaMx manually, so you can test that.
Fel
@Kindred: html blocks are fine on my copy. I know that doesn't help you but I thought I should mention it. IOW, the portal seems fine.
Great stuff, is there any chance for 1.xx version????
Why would you want a 1.1.x version when TP is available for 1.1.x? Come to think of it why would you want 1.1.x? I'll be changing over very shortly I think. I currently flogging beta 4 on a test site and so far it's great.
I want to stay on 1.xx until commes offical 2.0 version and i dont like TP, for me there is no problem but my admins dont to know how to work with TP and they are working on MKportal curently

You can create the tables manually with phpMyAdmin before you run the packedmanager.
The tablestructures:

CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS `smf_portamx_settings` (
`id` int(11) NOT NULL auto_increment,
`config` text NOT NULL,

CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS `smf_portamx_blocks` (
`id` int(11) NOT NULL auto_increment,
`side` varchar(6) NOT NULL,

Don''t try to ruin Fel''s thread by making such unfounding accusations. Fel is a very talented person and doesn''t need to take or copy other peoples software and present them as her own.
Installed it. New problems.
It keeps reverting from "Show the frontpage in the Forum area" to "No frontpage, go directly to Forum". If I view the block manager then all four of the sections are completely empty with no options to add or edit any blocks. Using a custom theme.
Turned on error logging and it spams these two things at about 100 per second:
8: Undefined index: frontpage
Apply Filter: Only show the errors from this file
File: C:/Inetpub/wwwroot/public_html/forums/Sources/PortaMx/PortaMx.php

8: Undefined index: portamx_copyright
Apply Filter: Only show the errors from this file
File: C:/Inetpub/wwwroot/public_html/forums/Sources/PortaMx/LoadData.php
Line: 749
There's also no Block Editor section in the PortaMX bar of the admin section. I guess it didn't install correctly but the only errors that came up were because babylon and classic didn't exist.
Run this query in phpMyAdmin. It'll sort the copyright error.
REPLACE INTO `smf_portamx_settings` (`id`, `config`) VALUES
(2, '<span id="pmx_copywrite">\n <a href="%s" target="_blank" class="new_win">%s%s™ v%s%s corp.</a>\n</span>'),
(3, '<span style="margin:5px auto; padding:5px; text-align:center; font-size:small; font-weight:bold; color:red; background-color:yellow; border:1px solid black; display:block;">\n Sorry, the PortaMx copyright must be in the template. Display of copyright is a legal requirement.<br />Please notify this forum''s administrator that this site is missing the copyright for the <a href="http://portamx.com" target="_blank" style="color: black;">Portal Management Extension PortaMx™</a>\n</span>');
Fel will know about the other one. Offhand I'd try overwriting the PMx admin files using ftp (if you haven't done that already).

If you have installed with errors, it's better to copy all files from the archive to your server. Also you have to update the settings table as antechinus say.
Fel
8: Undefined index: frontpage
Good report :D
Go to the PortaMx settings manager and check all setting, correct and save.
Fel
? That's just the point - it doesn't save. I'm back to where I started from except the error it gives is different.
Have you checked that all the PortaMx files went into place properly?
Also did you create the database tables manually before attempting to install?
I installed everything fine and did the two queries you gave.
I decided to uninstall and start again, removing the babylon and classic modifications from the xml. So let's just try and fix this:
Table 'smf.smf_portamx_settings' doesn't exist
File: C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\public_html\forums\Packages\temp\db_install.php
Line: 107
Shouldn't db_install create the table first? I looked in my tables and smf_portamx_blocks and its keys were made fine (although it has no rows).
It should do, and removing classic and babylon shouldn't be necessary even though they can be reinstated easily enough whenever anyone wishes to.
Anyway apparently PortaMx installation is sensitive to server settings. I can't use the package manager for installing PortaMx even though several other mods which create new directories, edit existing files and modify the database will install just fine.
What I did for my latest installation was to dump my database from my forum and restore it on my local host. I then ran the PortaMx installation and dumped that database. The local processing is very quick and easy and can be done with the package manager.
Next step was to ftp all the PortaMx files into place (keeping the proper directory structure, of course). This is the only part that may take some time, depending on your connection speed.
Then I restored the modified database online and ran PortaMx through the package manager.
Doing it that way the result was flawless. Mind you it'd damned well want to be after all that. Since there are some things I can't alter in my server taking this somewhat tedious but utterly reliable path seems to me to be my best option.
I use remote desktop though so it's some setting that the install isn't taking in to consideration. Can someone just give me a complete set of queries that the installer would make then?
Copy the attached file to your forum root (where you find the settings.php).
Open your prefered browser, enter your forum url and add /dbinstall.php at the end of line and press enter.
If a login screen shown, login as admin.
dbinstall.php create the portamx tables and load the default settings.
Fel
Isn't that just a copy of the db_install.php in the zip?
Database Error

File: C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\public_html\forums\dbinstall.php
Line: 126
I meant a dump I can put in to phpmyadmin or GUI tools.
Nevermind, I went though the db_install.php and created the queries myself. Everything seems to be working fine and no errors are being generated except for one thing: I added a news panel to the frontpage and set the board to display to the news forum but instead of displaying any posts, it just displays a blank table with the "News" title I put there.
Downloaded and installed the 0.950 version(upgraded from 0.947). Things went smoothly except for this error that I found in the log. ???

My main site is running SMF 1.1.7 with Simple Portal.

I have a bunch of mods installed that might not work after an upgrade.

It sounds like a "Feature Request" or "Mod Request" for the SMF 2.x Team.
It would make upgrading a lot easier for those of us with established sites, if there was a way to use mods from previous versions.
I think, that is a way, they is't to go.
SMF 2 has a other structure on database, DB querys and more.
It's the part of mod developers, to update the mods for SMF 2.

Too bad. A lot of people wont be switching to 2.0 for long time. Even long after the final is released.
Well then, my 2c is that they're nuts. Either that or they aren't aware of the benefits of SMF 2. I didn't see what the fuss was about until I actually set it up on a test site and gave it a bit of a run. From a users and admin point of view it is much better than 1.1.x.
If you were thinking of not changing to SMF 2 I advise you to reconsider.

All my sites, except for 2 are 2.0
One of them that are not, is a theme demo site for 1.1.x themes.
The other, is an RPG site that uses a mod made only for 1.1.x and will stay 1.1.x until the mod is upgraded, as the RPG depends on the mod.
I will not hesitate to upgrade, once the mod is upgraded.
However, in my last post, I had said People, NOT me.
Some people would rather not upgrade, because of certain reasons. We can not force them to do so. I was only merely saying that a version of the mod for the 1.1.x version would be nice. Not saying that it should be made.
I am testing various mods(including PortaMx) and preparing my test site with SMF2.
Will definitely switch my live-site over to SMF2 once it's themes become more stable.

I agree, SMF 2.x is has much more to offer as a basic script, but the mods I use haven't caught up yet.
I will also upgrade when the time is right.
As of this moment, the time is not right yet.
I also want to make sure ALL data won't be lost when I upgrade.
My main site has an arcade and I want to make sure all the scores will be saved and all the add-ons will also be available for that arcade before I even consider the upgrade.
If there was a way to to upgrade, while still using the 1.1.7 version of the arcade, (until the 2.x version catches up) I would have upgraded already.
I have upload a new release of PortaMx (v0.951)
This version is a upgrade for a exist v0.947 and a full install package.

right now i m using TinyPortal, what happen if i remove and install PortaMax Portal on my forum with default theme?
will it create any problem or it need to be install on fresh installed SMF site.
PortaMx only runs with SMF 2.
I'm sorry to hear there won't be one for SMF 1.1.XXXX. As I would really like to try this out.
I am one of those people who will not upgrade to the SMF 2.0 only because I have major issues with understanding some of this stuff in coding and as someone else said the mods...
I'm happy that you have this going and wish you the best of luck.
Go for SMF 2 when it's stable. Really. There will be more mods for it because after a while nobody will be making mods for 1.1.x. Same goes for themes.
There are heaps of people who can help you with the upgrade. If you want to play around with PortaMx a bit put it on a local host for testing, or pm me (that means Jakki, not everyone) and I'll hook you up on my test forum.
I'm learning themes right now..Ante and oh boy is it a learning curve for me...LOL
I may take you up on the offer but I have to think..
No problem. RC1 will be a little while anyway. No point going for Beta 4 at this stage.
Yeah let me learn a little more before throwing me to the lions again..LOL
Just noting that we appear to have found a solution for the installation problems that were plaguing some people (including me) who had inconvenient server configurations. I, for one, am extremely happy about this.
This new installation method does require the ability to set file and folder permissions via ftp or cpanel.
It cannot all be done simply through the SMF admin centre.
The good news is that once the file and folder permissions are correctly set, which isn't difficult and doesn't take that long, the subsequent installation of PortaMx can be done solely through the SMF package manager and appears to give a flawless result with no error messages.
:) Details can be found in this thread. (http://portamx.com/index.php?topic=281.0) :)
i intalled it and liked it but i m little confused,,, i want to show blocks only in front page and not on any other pages ,,, how can i do that?
Each block have "Dynamic visibility options".
On this go to "Show or Hide the block on action" and select "Frontpage".
Now the block is only shown at the frontpage.
Also you can hide a complete panel on certain actions. These you find on PortaMx Settings Manager.
Fel
so if i want ot show block in only two places then?
If you want show the block in frontpage and forum as example, use the "Dynamic visibility options".
Simple select the actions "frontpage" and "forum".

yeh ,, but it works fine
The problem appears to be with the file permissions. Even allowing SMF to change the files, it still fails to do it with this mod.
Installing SMF and other mods, it works just fine.

With the settings on my server, I need to allow SMF to change the permissions. I've done this when installing SMF as well as other mods.
For some reason, Portamx will not modify the files even if I allow it.
Does that make any sense? :)
You can set the folder permissions manually to get around this and I'm currently testing some scripts for Fel that should sort it. There's a whole topic about this over at the PortaMx site.

I'll look into it.
I'm looking at the "Portal Management Extension PortaMx for SMF 2.0 Beta 4" I'm using SMF 2.0 Beta 4 and My daughter uses another Portal but this one sounds good for my site.
I have three questions:
1 = I see that it has an installer but I do have some Mods loaded now, does it eliminate them?
2 = I have changed the Theme style sheet a lot with the colors, Will it affect that?
3 = Can I install PortaMx and not have it seen with my forums until I have it loaded and ready then turn it on?
I just don't want to change the style and look that I have and with the forums being used a lot I don't want to affect it until it's fully ready.
Lon
1/ It may conflict with some mods. Impossible to know in advance, but the pre-installation test will bring up any conflicts.
2/ No.
3/ Admin settings. Set the usergroup visibility to admin only. Frankly I advise you to set up a duplicate test forum and try the installation on that. Much better idea.
I wish I would have seen this mod earlier, before I downgraded to 1.1.7. The reason why I missed it is because this mod is posted under 1.1.7 mod category.
Could one of the moderators please remove this from 1.1.7 and add it to the SMF 2.0 Beta4 modification section? Thanks in advance.
http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=1419
??? it is not listed under 1.1.7, it only lists 2.0b4 and the last time the entry was modified was nack in november.
PortaMx was NEVER lists under 1.1.x version of SMF .. it works ONLY with SMF 2.0 !
Fel
Unfortunately it didn't work for me on my SMF 2.0 test forum. After the install and passing all the tests, the forum page just turned blank/white. The page would not load.
I FTP'd to the site to see the impacted files and noticed that some files were zero in size. I did a restore of my backup files to get access back to the site.
Thought I'd give it a try since I'm using TinyPortal for my production site running SMF 1.1.7. Thanks for the effort feline!
That will be a server configuration problem. You can get around it by chmodding your folders manually before installation.
If you do this installation should proceed without problems. I have to do this with my server but it works.
http://portamx.com/index.php?topic=281.0
Actually the problem I'm running too is that when it tries to install half the folders install as empty files and not folders at all.
I can only get it to work by installing everything by hand. I think the package install may be fubared.
This is due to server config. Have tried the method I linked to just above?
I'll be pleasantly surprised if the linked solution will work for the problem described by Garou.
It seems to arise because of some changes in the SMF2 Package Manager and affects servers under apache 2 with mod_suexec - sites on the same server under SMF1 don't experience this issue with similarly constructed mods.
Well I was getting the same problems as Garou (and more) before Codebirth nutted out the linked method. Using that method I get flawless installations with no error messages. Go figure.
It's not PortaMx, it's SMF2 - other mods that transfer directories via Package Manager also fail similarly - there is some problem with the way that functions like mktree() are operating, possibly due to attempts to allow for php suexec. As mentioned earlier, no such issues with ANY decent mod installed on SMF1.
Even when it installs, with all files/directories set 0777, there is a fatal error because the relevant PortaMx subdirectories don't get transferred i.e. any sub-directory (and its files) below the board directory level.
The only solution I have found to install PortaMx under these conditions is:
- set all permissions to 0777 via Package Manager
- install PortaMx through Package Manager so you don't have to do all the pita manual changes
- first delete the directories screwed up by the Package Manager
- then use an ftp client to upload the directories provided by PortaMx
- then restore permissions to your preference
A thorough pita but then it works - the major reason I will not personally upgrade sites to SMF2.
The mod is nice, and very familiar for those previously used to TinyPortal, but life under SMF2 is a real ****** :(
Well given that I'm assuming starting with everything clean, I've found that Codebirth's method of pre-setting permissions will then allow installation straight through the package manager and with perfect results.
It is a server config thing because on a local host where I'm root user there is no pre-setting needed. It just installs like any basic package. This is what I've found anyway.
In SMF2 the Package manager can do the permissions changes for you.
Well I'm just telling you what I've found to work for this mod on my server. From memory the package manager did not allow access to all the necessary folders. Cpanel ftw.
PortaMx is proud to announce the version 0.956 of the great Portal Management Extension.
We have added many new features, a Admin Center on wich you can install new versions and upgrades, additional languages and read the online Manual.

Yeah....latest update is even more slick and easy to configure than the original releases, the control panel...and nice build-in blocks.

Hi,
installed without error in a fresh 2.0 RC21 but it is not showing in admin panel.
Any help?
Use the default theme and english language ...

You are shure, that the installer applied the changes to the files?

Wow,
it said it was installed without problems but now I see that there are more then 700 forum errors ! and I cannot unistall it!
I will try to discover which files should I repair...
BTW and if I do not want to register in your site to get help?
Have you got backup files from just before you tried to install PMx? If you do I advise you to use them.

I managed to get this installed by following the directions for setting permissions on the portmaMx site.
Thanks for that tip, however I have one question.
Perhaps I'm not seeing it but I can't seem to figure out how to add blocks to the left block block.
Are there blocks I can add?
Also, I was just experimenting with Frontpage and typed a couple sentences on a couple lines and when I went to view it, the lines were almost overlapping each other.
I had to leave 2-3 spaces in between a line in order to keep the lines from overlapping each other.
Is this how it's suppose to work?
Sheryl
Wow, fantastic module.
I installed it fine and have just one problem - when the fckeditor tries to insert a picture I get all kinds of crazy messages - I can't copy and past so I'll have to take a screen print and include it in a day or so.
Thanks for sharing a super mod.

If you have a older release of FCKeditor installed?
As example from a TinyPortal distribution?
In this case you have to remove the old release, restart your webserver and clear your browser cache.

When you see that? On preview in the FCKeditor or after saved the block?
Tip: The block content uses the styles from you theme. So you have set the line-height correct.
To do this, you can use a division in the editor like this:
<div style="line-height:150%;"> .. content .. </div>

Thanks for helping me out.
I haven't had much time to play with it. I was just mainly concerned with getting it installed yesterday since I had just upgraded to RC1 so I have lots to learn.
I'll play around with it later today.
So far it looks great. I love the editor that comes with Frontpage. It looks as if it will make it easier to create a custom page.

I deleted the mySQL and smf 2.0 RC1 and reinstalled fresh copies and then only installed this mod - same problem.
This happens when you are trying to insert a picture into the HTML editor window (fckeditor) and you click "Browser Server" a file structure window opens and you then get the error I made a picture of.
There is NO contamination from anything...
Thanks for the assistance, I appreciate it.
But if I can't get this solved I'm going to have to use simple portal or something else.

I use a 3 year old HP laptop and have installed 70+ smf mods - nothing like this has happened. I run IE 7. I'm running XP.
The same error occurs on my wife's PC which runs Vista.
I appreciate your efforts and love this mod - it is fantastic. So I'll do the best I can and limp along and hope somehow this will work. This mod is so far superior to the other Portal mods that I will do the best I can and hopefully can get pictures into the HTML other ways.
Thanks for making the mod available - I appreciate it.
I use Site5 as my hosting site.
I'm playing around with Single Pages - I create one and try to have it show in some forums with no luck. The page is active but I just can't see how to use it.

Fel, I also have the same problem with uploading pictures from my PC while in the FCKeditor. It never got done. :-\ I checked the folders' permission and there were 755. No problems with using links though.
Not sure if it has anythig to do with my server's configuration, but I am also using FCKeditor in FelBlog(SMF1.1.8) on the same server/domain without any problem. (I have SMF2RC1/PortaMx in a subdirectory).
No problems with pages or otherwise(once I learned how to use it). :D
Update.....while using a local (SMF2RC1/PortaMx/xampp/MSxp) box, I could upload pictures while using FCKeditor WITHOUT any problem. :D So it might have something to do with the server's configuration?
2nd. Update.....I set the files inside fckeditor to 755...then the picture upload worked properly.... :D

I deleted the 'old' TinyPortal FCKeditor folder (you can recognize the first 3 characters (FCK) are uppercase).
I deleted the PortaMx fckeditor folder (all characters are lowercase)
I uploaded manual the fckeditor folder again from the PortaMx archive to the webserver and all is working fine again.

Installation went super. The language manager states that new languages can be added but doesn't show how or where. I'll be trying the rest in the next days. Thanks for now for this very nice mod!
I installed this mod on a test site so I could be sure I knew what I was doing and everything seemed to install correctly after following some instructions on setting the correct permissions.
Now I've tried to install it on my active site and although it seemed as if it installed ok, I see the language for Block manager is set to English-utf8 but my default language is English.
Why would the block manager show the wrong language?
How can I change it to English?
And I'm assuming the reason I'm missing the boxes to type a block title is because I have the wrong language?
Sheryl
The default language (english) with PortaMx is developed use the charset ISO-8859-1.
You can install other languages with the language manager.
If the titlebox not show, you have not set the correct language.
Fel
I want my default to be English and it looks as if every area in the admin believes this to be true except the block manager.
I'm going to include screenshots so you can see what I'm talking about.
If I'm suppose to change something in one of these screenshots so block manager will use English rather then english-utf8, would you please tell me what I need to do?
Thanks.
This first screenshot shows my default language:

This shows the language installed and other languages I can install but since I don't want utf-8, I'm assuming I shouldn't install it.
(https://www.simplemachines.org/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv200%2Fsheryltoo%2Fportamx%2Finstlang.jpg&hash=ada0f044f76cdd02e68d8a6b84e51f13c6bf81ad)
This shows Block manager with the language as English-utf8 and it's what needs to be changed but how?
(https://www.simplemachines.org/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv200%2Fsheryltoo%2Fportamx%2Fblmang.jpg&hash=31d9cd5f5f8ba4fe42b7d0d7e20e005379bc1046)
And this shows the editor without the blocktitle box and my language showing as English.
There's nothing in the drop down list since English is the only language I've installed.
(https://www.simplemachines.org/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv200%2Fsheryltoo%2Fportamx%2Feditbl.jpg&hash=9cba4ec8b617c5c092f059bc7dcd02360d77d0be)
So what am I missing? Is there some other place I need to go to make a change?
And I followed the exact same steps I took when I installed it on a test site and didn't run into this problem.

Great Mod Feline, installed and working great 8)
I thought I should tell you one more thing in regards to my language problem.
I just realized in looking at my tables in php myadmin that two of the portamx tables show utf8_general_ci under collation.
All my other tables say latin1_swedish_ci.
Is there a way of changing these two tables to show the correct collation, assuming what's showing is wrong?
The two tables are smf_portamx_blocks and smf_portamx_settings.
I'm wondering if I should try to uninstall and reinstall everything or is there a way to replace those two tables?
Sheryl
look at the Settings.php (found in you forum directory) if you find this string:
$db_character_set = 'utf8';
PortaMx converts the tables automaticly to utf-8, if that set in SMF settings ...
Fel
Apparently it does say that so I'm going to attempt to try and create a new database and transfer my site to a new database that doesn't show utf8.
I'm assuming that's the only way I can get this mod to change to plain English, right?
Sheryl
If you have the utf-8 string in you settings, simple remove it (or comment out).
Then run the file dbremove.php to remove the portamx tables.
To recreate the tables run dbinstall.php.
Both files you find in the portamx archive. extract these files, copy it to your forum root and run it in the above order.
Fel
Thank you for explaining all this. I'll give this a try.
Sheryl
I'm not sure if I did something wrong but after running the dbremove.php file, I lost my site and couldn't run dbinstall.php.
Fortunately I had made a back up so all wasn't lost but how exactly should I have run that first file?
I extracted those two files into my root directory, then typed the path to get to it which would be something like this, with dbremove.php at the end:
subdomain.domain.com/dremove.php
I did the same thing putting dbinstall.php at the end to try and reinstall the tables.
Maybe I should try to uninstall the mod and start over.
I did comment out that utf line and hopefully I did that right.
I just put two // and a space in front of that line.
Is that right?
I don't understand this php language but I did buy a book on it and I believe that's what I'm suppose to do.
Sheryl
I dont known why that not works ...
And yes, the // is a correct comment for php
But .. while the tables exist, they will not created. If the dbremove.php not works, the you have to remove the tables with you cpanel - phpMyAdmin or what else you hoster supported.
If you have problem whit this all, PM me, I can help in most situations.
Fel
I think I'll try and uninstall it and remove the tables in php myadmin and then reinstall everything but I may not attempt this until tomorrow.
If I run into problems, I'll send you a pm.
Thanks for trying to help me.
Sheryl
I decided to try uninstalling the mod tonight before I went to bed.
I did the uninstall from the admin panel, and then removed the tables using php myadmin and once again I lost my site.
Stupid me didn't do a backup just before dumping those files so I had to restore it with a backup from this morning.
Why can't I remove those tables?
It's very late for me so I'm going to bed but if you happen to come back here tonight and have any ideas, I'd love to hear them.
Otherwise I'll try sending you a pm tomorrow.
Sheryl
The uninstallation has bug free?
Tell me the error message you see after removing the tables ..
Fel
I'm sorry but I can't tell you the exact error because I didn't save it but it said something about portmax and not seeing tables I believe.
After trying to remove the tables using both dbremove.php and phpmyadmin, I got the exact same error when trying to access my site.
As I mentioned earlier, I couldn't run dbinstall.php after I removed the tables and I don't know why.
I was able to remove tables on a test site since I had tried it there first but I can't remove these tables from my active site.
I'm assuming it may have something to do with mods I've installed or perhaps because my active site was originally created using Fantastico and showed utf8 for the language.
I had changed the language to English and deleted all foreign languages after upgrading to RC1 since it didn't like all those languages but as I stated earlier, utf was showing in the settings.php file only I commented it out before trying to remove and reinstall the tables.
Could that have anything to do with not being able to remove the tables?
I don't know what would have happened if I hadn't commented out the utf code before running dbremove.php but to tell you the truth, I don't want to experiment.
It took me all day yesterday to fix my site after losing it when I tried to remove the tables.
I really like the mod but I can't seem to make it work correctly on my site which is disappointing.
One other thing I'm wondering about.
When I installed it, I had to change all the permissions manually. Should I have changed any permissions when I tried to remove the tables?
Again, I don't think I want to attempt to try anything unless you can tell me a sure way to fix this.

Hi Fel, I am testing your portal on the core SMF 2.0 RC1. It is great. I know you have mentioned the users not to remove the copyright from the public view. That's normal. However, your copyright message is too far above the core software SMF and it has wasted space. I know SMF does not allow hard coding (or encryption) in any of their associated scripts. Can you advise me how to move it down so it will be nicely together with SMF copyright footer? I can still keep yours on top all the time if SMF agrees with it. I just want to have a neat solid footer like Simple Portal footer. I do appreciate if you has the same view.
Thx!
@sheryltoo .. without a look at your server, I can't say whats wrong.

That is not possible.
Fel
I don't know if this means anything but after having so many problems with my active site, I decided to install it again on a test site because I do like the mod but after 3 tries, I have given up and after all three tries, I had to have my host site change some permissions on the folders for the smf files because I no longer had access to them.
I couldn't delete two portamx folders, editor_uploads and fckeditor along with all their contents and I couldn't delete the smf folder itself.
Another thing I noticed when I tried to install this for a second or third time on my test site, I didn't have a portamx folder but I'm pretty sure I remember seeing one when I originally installed it.
Maybe there's a conflict between this mod and my server. I'm not really sure and don't understand any of this but sadly, I have to give up on it.
Just one more question. Those folders I mentioned, "editor_uploads" and "fckeditor," are they suppose to get removed when you unistall the mod? I see they're still showing in the active site that I originally started talking about.
I'm not sure what would happen if I tried to delete them or if I can even delete them since I couldn't delete them in a test site.
Sheryl
Normaly all installed files and folder are removed on uninstall.
The databese tables you can remove with dbremove.php, that you find in the archive.
For your (and not your) problem you should be read this article:
http://portamx.com/index.php?topic=281.0
Fel
Actually I did read that thread when I first tried to install this mod since it didn't show up in my admin panel.
I changed the permissions and was able to install it on both my test site and my active site but the active site didn't install correctly since I was missing a box for the block title and removing the tables removed all my boards.
I still have the tables on my active site because I can't rid rid of them without losing all my boards.
Sheryl
As I say before ... Without a look at you system, I can't get better support.

PortaMx use detects in this as a "Page" request.
I have masked the "zc" request .. but then I see, that this mod
not use the normal layer technologie from SMF .. so it run not in the forum "main" layer.
In this case, the zc mod in not compatible with other mod they use the SMF layer technologie. Please contact the author of the ZC Mod.

After install I have some formatting errors on customised version of Jade's Shadow People theme:
1. Signatures align to far left in each post rather than below text body
2. Stats centre aligns to far left, wrapping around icons rather than in separate fild on table?
Screen shots below. I can only assume there is some .css issue somewhere, any ideas? All loks great on core but not on my theme!
W
Re above, this alignment error is browser specific, IE 7, with Firefox and Google formatting correctly...
IE 7 worked fine until install of PortaMX - any clues as to what's going on?
I don't know that theme .. I use only themes from DzinerStudio (http://www.dzinerstudio.com/).
With these themes all works correct with any browser.
Fel
It's a real weird conflict between browser, PortaMx and the theme. I could correct on IE7 by reverting to default Board Index and forum.css but the Signatures misalignment was beyond me. At one point it was even showing aligned too far left on the default core theme and I hadn't touched any of those files.
Unfortunately have had to unistall PortaMx which thankfully has fixed everything.
Not much more I can do as have insuffiecient knowledge of where the issue may lie
Thanks anyway
You could sort the sigs in ie7.css. The BoardIndex bug is odd though. I suggest asking Jade about it. If the default file doesn't have that problem it sounds like a bug in Shadow People. I can't remember when she released that theme but the old 2b4 info centre had some bugs in IE. If Shadow People's file is based on the 2b4 one that would explain it.
ETA: Just spoke to Jade on MSN and it is using the 2b4 file structure. I'll annoy her until she relents and upgrades the theme for RC1. :D
I had similar problems with a 2b4 theme and signatures. Removing a "clear:both;" (.signature) in the theme's style.CSS fixed it for me.
Thanks Fel, Ant and Senalaya,
I'll try again when I can take the forum offline for a period. Perhaps after Jade has upgraded her theme. No fun as a noobie experimenting and trying to fix formatting isues on a live site - all sorts of weird results. Fix it on one browser and the others screw up.
Hi, Firstly, this mod is great but require some help.
This maybe easy to fix or it may be impossible i dont know...
Well, i have two side bars on my forum one on left and one on right.
when you load the page the left sidebar loads automatically and then the right one pops out and pushes the center of the forum across.
to see for your self: http://www.consolefans.co.uk
how do i make it so it loads like at the same time instead of pushing the board over and loading last?
Thanks.
That is a normal effect, if the middle area larger than the space between the left and right panel.

ok.

thanks.
Your work looks awesome, but I'm getting pretty frustrated just trying to install it. Here's the run-down:
Found your portal, among others, on the SMF mod site. Downloaded the latest package listed there (.956 or something) and uploaded the package through the backend panel. But it won't let me install it, since it claims it isn't compatible with my version of SMF or some BS along those lines. So I go on your site, and notice there's actually a 957 release available. I attempt to download it, but it asks for a login. Cool, I'm used to this type of stuff from other sites, so I figured that I'd just make an account here. Unfortunately, that captcha you've got that says "Short term for "PortaMx Administration Center" ?:" is some kind of sick joke, because I can't, for the life of me, figure out what the *heck* that means, let alone what the answer is, and I'm no bot by any means. So I try the OpenID method, because you know, you have it as an option to login. But apparently, AOL, MyOpenID, and OpenID.org aren't valid providers or able to send the correct data, according to your forums.
In short, there's no way for me to actually get the damn thing working, and it's frustrating me, because it sounds like your product is all-around better than TP or even SP. Please either send me a copy of the package, open up your downloads page to the general public, or upload an updated version to the SMF mod site. Thanks.
I'm currently using SMF 2.0 RC1-1.
At a guess I'd try "PMx Admin" for the registration thing (since Porta is usually referred to as PMx for short) but yes, she could have chosen something better. If you can't get Fel in a reasonable timeframe send me a pm. I know she has a broken arm at the moment so she isn't spending much time at her keyboard.
Thanks for the reply, but no-go. I've tried: PMx Admin, PMx Admin Center, PMx Administration, and PMx Administration Center. I'll be PM-ing you.
Also, sorry to hear about her arm. Well-wishes to her.
I'd say the short term for PortaMx Administration Center is just PAC
oneupdave.. I use Portamx and it IS quite good. Given how the link for it is listed in Admin I would say try: PortaMx Admin Center

I have ezportal working with a 2.0 upgraded from 1.1.x and I have had portaMX running on a 2.0 clean install as well... your rant seems disjointed and unclear.
If you have a specific problem, please list, categorize and detail your problem(s) so that it (they) can be investigated and either solved or potentially indicated where the user error was.
You have spent that much time? ??? I have a forum with over 4 million posts and 50k users. The upgrade from 1.1.x took a few hours, but now that I am on 2.0, I do a full code refresh from the dev kit ever month or so...
Hello,
I am running SMF 2.0 RC1.2 and I tried to install PortaMX and I get an error message saying something like, either the package is currupt or not meant for this version of SMF. I tried downloading/uploading the package several time to ensure it doesnt get currupted during transfer, but I keep getting the same error message.
Do you have a new version available for SMF 2.0 RC1.2?
Here is the exact error message I get:

Best way, to emulate a RC1 for PortaMx install.
Also you have to add a manualy change in the Display.php, see this topic

Hello this looks great !
Is this mod french friendly ?
I mean is the mod available for French version of SMF ?
I had so many problems with other SMF portal because they were not dealing well with French version of SMF.

Currently we have no french language translation.
But .. any user is welcome to make french language files ;)

Just we released the version 0.961 of PortaMx.
This version is a update for version 0.957, 0.960 and also a full install package.
Please note that you have to unistall version older then 0.957 before you apply this release.
Note, that you MUST DROP THE PORTAMX TABLES for older versions then 0.957 !
For more information read the Update topic at PortaMx.com (http://portamx.com/index.php?topic=944.0)

ok so I would like to use this on my RC1.2 site, however, I see some folks are having to make alot of manual changes to files such as Display.php in addition to installing it in order to even get it to work correctly. Is this still the case or have those issues been fixed?
A little bit more info about your problem would be help ;)

If your talking to me, Im not having a problem. I havent even installed the mod yet. I was asking if you had worked out the bugs folks are talking about and made the mod "fully" compatible with RC1.2 without having to make a bunch of additional edits such as with Display.php.
The lastes release (you can download that on the support site) is full compatible with SMF RC1.1 and RC1.2.
For updates you have also to visit the support site ... ;)

sorry if this is a stupid question... cant seem to find the answer, or maybe I just didnt look in the right spot.
What do I mark so that the PortaMx is visible to everyone besides me (admin) The wording is a little confusing and I thought I had it so others could see it until I made myself a test account. Now the Home button (portamx page) just reroutes me to the forum when Im a guest/member.
What exactly do I mark or not mark? That is the question ;D
Thanks for the help.
you have to set the visibility option and the access to any member group they can see the block. If nothing set, only the admin can see it.
Go to -> admin block - edit block - access settings and visual options

PortaMx hase released the version 0.971 for SMF 2.0 RC2 public.
This version supports caching for all blocks (exept html, php, script) to reduce the number of database queries and load the page faster.

Well done Feline, great! 8)
I like this portal, it works very well, no problems, but one issue annoyed me, the double login on the frontpage.
In the login page normally people see the smf log window in the center, that takes to the forum, I want user to go to the frontpage but this is possible only from the upper portamx menu.
Does anyone know if it's possible to direct always users to the front page even with the smf log in, or just delete it to use the portamx access menu?
mmmhh, is it clear? Any possible way to log in always to the frontpage and not to the forum.
Thank you.
I can login at any place. The login is always redirect to the frontpage (if one exist and visible for the membergroup).
Fel
Feline,
I think I have a big problem. I installed the latest release PortaMx_0971.zip a few minutes ago, but instead of it redirecting to the admin section all I see is a blank screen. All pages of my site just shows nothing. Please check it out at www.wirelesshotspot.co.za
Is there anything that I'm doing wrong? All the files tested successfully, and seemed to have installed fine, and it even gave me the page before redirecting, but now just nothing shows up in my site.
Could you please be of some assistance?
Currently Using SMF version 2.0 RC2 with the PortaMx_0971.zip and default theme.
I think this is a fantastic mod and would love to make use of it on my site!
Thanks in advance,
mseraphim
What I don't understand is that I installed it on my local testing server using WAMP and it worked perfectly fine. But for the life of it I can't seem to get my site back online.
ANY HELP PLEASE???
I think, that the modifications don't worked correct at your server, or files/directories for PortaMx are missing or not correct installed.
If you need more help, please register at the PortaMx support side and send me a PM with as Admin and ftp account for your server,
Fel
Thanks, I will register there, just need to install smf on my server from scratch and then I'll PM you.
Thanks again
Not sure if this issue had been already reported but it seems that I cannot use Show or Hide the block on action and Show or Hide the block on board filters at the same time.
When I try to do such thing, that block is not shown at all as result. I wanted to show it on specific boards on forum + frontpage. I know I can override it by making clone block and show it just on frontpage but maybe you should check this out or at least insert frontpage as an option inside Show or Hide the block on board filter ;)
Cheers.
I don't know your settings .. But if I choice "frontpage" and "forum' for actions and one ore more Boards, the block is shown on frontpage, Boardindex and each action on the board.
You use the version 0.971?
Can you post your block settings?
Fel
I'm using 0.961-1 as I'm using RC1.2 at the moment. Is 0.971 just for RC2 or it would work for RC1.2 as well?
I was trying to show in both specific boards and frontpage were script and HTML type of blocks.
v0.971 is for SMF 2 RC2 public and works not with older versions of SMF.
But .. you can upgrade your Forum to RC2 public .. more informations you find on our support side.
And yes, the 0.061 have a bug in the dynamic visibility options...
Fel
any way to turn this off and on? kinda like a disable until I can get the layout correct?
How are you going to tell if the layout is correct when you have it switched off? :)
You can set blocks to admin view only on the block creation page, if that is what you mean.
yeah I just want to wait to turn it "on "until I am ready to release it.

Fel
That is a question for smf support, so why ask here??
AS a charter member you were informed to upgrade to the public version,
if you don't follow advice no wonder you encounter problems!
Quote from: feline on November 21, 2009, 07:25:12 PMWhat you mean with "text lines in the header" ?
Fel
I mean a simple test "ad" composed only of a line of text. I am a newbie here, this is all quite confusing to me, sorry.
Please don't ridicule me or condescend; the 2.0 RC2 was installed by someone else who is not available now...
PowerBob - when I go to the downloads page, it shows 2.0 RC2... Is this different from the 2.0 RC2 that I had installed 12 days ago? How can you tell?
If your RC2 was installed twelve days ago it should be the correct version, as the public release was fifteen days ago. If it says RC2 Charter Preview in the footer (like this site) then it should be upgraded.
Anyway regarding the ad management mod, from vague memory that mod inserts ads anywhere on your forum, which is not related to PMx as such. I think it has admin settings that enable you to insert ad codes but I suggest asking in the support thread for that mod.
Quote from: Antechinus link=topic=266721.msg2372796#msg2372796If it says RC2 Charter Preview in the footer (like this site) then it should be upgraded.
Thanks. It does not say "Preview" at all, so I should have the correct latest version.
As regards Ads Mod and PortaMx Mod ... I was told that (at the time) the Ads mod would not work with Curve, but that PortaMx would do what I wanted:
<php ad code> in the header of every page. To date, I have not been able to get *anything* to display from PortaMx onto our site; the control panels seem straightforward, but something is missing somewhere...
Are you turning the blocks on after creating them? By default they are turned off immediately after being made, so that people can play with things without blocks appearing all over the place. You have to switch them on before they will display.
Quote from: Antechinus on November 24, 2009, 06:15:47 AMYou have to switch them on before they will display.
Yes... But how/where?
I was told "the lock/unlock icon in overview" - but I do not see such an icon...
Ah, I found the lock icon - jeez, you youngsters with eyes that work well... LOL
So I set up "statistics" in the "header panel" and enabled it with the lock icon --> check mark...
But I still see Nothing like that on my actual forum header....

Hello Feline
I have a small issue with your 0.961-1 version which seems to be odd.
When guests try to access my frontpage (which is btw, main page of my forum) they get this error:
QuoteTemplate Parse Error!
It seems something has gone sour on the forum with the template system. This problem should only be temporary, so please come back later and try again. If you continue to see this message, please contact the administrator.
You can also try refreshing this page.
It does not happen to members. And there is only one BBC block (with additional register menu link) which is different comparing to that what members are seeing.
When I remove frontpage (and go directly to forum) guests are not shown any errors. From my experience it seems that frontpage is the only page which have this sort of error because everything else is loading just fine for guests and asks for login. I believe so because I even tried forum/index.php?action=frontpage page and it loads for members but for guests they get same error.
Single pages loads fine as well with that specific guests BBC block so I guess that block doesn't cause any troubles as it contains just plain URL, SIZE and COLOR tags.
I will provide you my forum/index.php file here as I believe something is wrong there.
The only thing that's odd to me is that I haven't installed any new block for about two weeks or more and I even tried to remove last one but I still get the same error. But then again my last registered member is 2nd of Dec so I guess he was able to access frontpage as a guest.
None has admin access but me and I'm running RC2 1.2 SMF on Core template.
Any ideas?
A link to your forum would be help ...
The default installation works?

I'm sending you PM with link of my forum and test account (hope you don't mind), not sure if it's safe to give it in public?

Hi,
I wanted to give it a try ( Thx to Antechinus's signature :) ) on my following test site but even though it seemed to have installed it without any single problem, the site was unreachable afterwards.
I replaced the index.php with the one from backup and I could see the site again.
There were tons of errors on string pmx_admBlk_panels in Admin.php and I realised the language of the site would be the reason. Instead of renaming the files to *.turkish-utf8.php I changed the site's default language to English and re-put the index.php that was modified during installation but nothing seemed to change ..
Anything I should keep an eye before reinstalling again ?
http://www.mzdclbtr.com/index.php

mine just shows nothing... we use it to announce to other xbox 360 clans what we are doing and if available for games so they don't have to log into the forum to find out
For the Board new block, we use the ssi_boardNews function.
If this modified by other mods, we can give no guarantee that all works correct.

the board is readable by guests and displays as part of the multiple news. however all we want is the board to display all the topics from it on its own, not with other boards. i don't understand the ssi_boardnews function so can you explain it more to me?
ssi_boardNews returns the first massage from each topic in the given board.
You can set a start, a length and a limit to find the posts.

and how would i set it up? or check the setup?
Would not install on a vanilla install of SMF 2.0. Replacing the /Sources got my test site up and running again. Seems the route of the problem is this one:
Apply Filter: Only show the errors with the same message
8: Undefined index: pmx_admBlk_panels
Apply Filter: Only show the errors from this file
File: /home/Sources/Admin.php
Line: 258
I haven't looked further. Basically vanilla install but after completing install just a white screen. No other mods installed.
Online or local?

Thankfully I have enough experience to get it to work. This was not a localhost install this was on a outside server. I will see if I get time today to mess with it and see what happens.
update: the cause of the broken is install is permissions for the ftp user. The mod believes that everything was installed correctly but it wasn't. The owner does not have correct permissions to generate sub-folders hence a broken install.
You can create all the subfolder manually or simple copy all files from the (extracted) archive with ftp to your server.

and even earlier (like 10 mins ago), I was trying to edit a BBC block, and I got a post.english.php error stating for me to try on default theme, or refresh page, and I uninstalled it and reinstalled it now, and I got that error above!

Can somebody give me detailed instructions how to uninstalling PortaMx please as I am kind of new to SMF and its Mods. I tried to use "uninstall" from the AdminCP but it is still there. I read somewhere that you need to uninstall the database. If I do that don't I loose all my members details.? Or is there a special database just for PortaMx? I wish to uninstall not because I do not like its features but because I wish to try and compare it with another portal.
You can uninstall any mod with the package manager.
PortaMx uninstall don't remove the pmx tables. If you will remove this, you find in the archive the file dbremove.php.
Extract the file, copy that to your forum root and run it in your browser (enter forumurl/dbremove.php).

Sorry Felix, I think we are having language difficulties. I stated that I have removed PortaMx (via the Package Manager) but it is still there. I have asked if this database remover will remove only PortaMx or will it delete all of my database rendering my site unusable. I now have further problems and questions:
1. If this dbremove.php is necessary to completely remove PortaMx why is it in Archives? Why is it not included with the mod?
2. In who's Archive is it located in? I have searched your forum as well as SMF and I can not find it.
3. Please confirm if it will remove the PortaMx tables only or remove the complete database.? I just want to return to the stage I was at prior to installing PortaMx..

It's not necessary, but you can remove the tables. It's not in the uninstall, so you can always make a reinstall without lost your blocks and settings.

In the PortaMx archive, they you have installed.

dbremove.php will remove only the portamx tables.

Thank you Fel, I am not about to depart but was a bit concerned about the method of uninstall. Keep up the good work and thanks again...

Hello All!
I am thinking about using this mod (sounds great!) but want to know if the issues that are being reported are with the default SMF theme?
I wont be using any other teams with my forum so if it works ok with the default theme, that would be great!
PortaMx works with any theme that created for SMF 2 RC 2.
More info and updates you find on our support site ...

In the archive you find the file dbinstall.php. Extract this file. copy it to your server root (wher you find the Settings.php) and start this in your browser, like yoururl/dbinstall.php. Login as admin and see if it works.

Hi I have installed PortaMX and it has made my forum Text bigger Which i dont like..
How can i put it back to normal size?

I created a topic in the portals area of this forum here, I cannot figure out how to add content to a "Single Page" I made the page, but the content? How do I add it!??!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?
select the blocktype you use for single pages .. html, bbc .... and insert the content.
Fel
Ok, just like my post on portamx.com, I figured it out! Thanks anyway!
13. Execute Modification ./Sources/Poll.php Test successful
14. Execute Modification ./Sources/Subs.php Test failed
1. Replace ./Sources/Subs.php Test failed
any fix for this?
no fix needed... this just means that something has modified the target file so that the auto-install can not find the exact match it is looking for. Just like any other mod, you will have to manually apply the changes to the file/location which failed
in Subs.php find:
foreach (array_reverse($context['template_layers']) as $layer)
loadSubTemplate($layer . '_below', true);
replace with:
//-> start change PortaMx
foreach(array_reverse($context['template_layers']) as $layer)
{
getTemplateLayer($layer);
loadSubTemplate($layer . '_below', true);
}
//-> end change PortaMx

The older release v0.971 and the update v0.971-2 is compatible with SMF 2.0 RC2. The archives you can download on our support site...
Fel
this is such an amazing mod, thank you all
=============
i have a question
the frontpage wont display if i use other language(chinese, japanese), i know it does not support some languages, but at least can it just display english on other languages :o thx
i just installed this and it looks great, however after i had menu on side in left using CBT Navigator, and added new catergories to my site, then went back into the block and highlighted the new cats, they still don't show up in the menu, i tried deleting the block and making new but same thing happen.
i also tried clearing browser cache and smf cache.
thanks for your time
---------update LOL
ok after trouble shooting i realized it needed a post to show cat, it would be nice if it showed cat even if there where no posts.
thanks again
Hi!
Thanks for this portal, works great!!!
But there is a small bug in the current release, the portal tries to load a pngfix.js in the Sources/PortaMx/LoadData.php which don't exist on a 2.0RC3 Board.
I don't know why that is't more on the archive .. in RC1 is was exist.
But .. if you don't need that you can remove the line from the LoadData.php.
I will check that and fix it on the next upgrade.
Thanks for reporting,
Fel
hello
i installed the mod and it works great but its a bit weird when i log in i get directed to the portal but guest dont
they just go to the forums
i searched crazy to find where i can alter that but pffff i cant find it :)
can anyone point me in the right direction
www.mmo-cataclysm.com
EDIT
Oops haha eh you have to indeed look into the block settings and see where its showing and where not
sry fixed
ok sry for the again post but its got nothing to do with the old
ik really happy with the portal it works great but there is one thing wich i cant seem to alter
its the bar above the first news item as you can see it doesnt line up with the recent topic menu
i added a screen
where in the name of all that is portallike can i get that blue bar away
It's the titlebar of the block. This you can disable by set the header to Not show in the Visual settings and CSS classes.
Fel
ahh cool thanks but the problem is i dont know wich block it is hahaha it must be "a" block but i cant find it
there was a block (html) news but i deleted that
the rest is just the forums feed :)
EDIT
after actualy looking a bit better hahahahaha you are a hero :)
its fixed thank you very much
Give the blocks titles, then you can find it later easier ;)
Fel
i see indeed i think i got the picture now with that structure
oh and if i can then i got another question (im on a roll)
on the portal i want to remove from every news post the things like auther and dat etc et in that way that is only
has a title of the post (wich is also the link to the forum post already :) niceee ) and beneath that boom the post starts
where do i do that i can find my way around php pages (code etc etc ) but most of the time i cant find the actual file to edit it in (or in my way remove it al haha )
thanks already :)
This is in many blocks .. like recent posts, recent topics, new posts, board news, multiple board news ...
What block do you mean ?
Fel
Is this a portal itself or a portal add on?

Fel
haha yeah i should have made the question a bit better indeed ok well here we go
i posted a screen and you can check it at mmo-cataclysm.com
what i want (or better ask to be able to do ) is that in the board news only the title and the news appear so no date no views no auther nothing , as i with my skil on drawing tried to line in the picture
this goes the same for the recent topic block only the name of the topic nothing more in there
ok now we go for the arrows with the big ? as you can see there is a slight cap so that the recent topic block and the board news dont line up anymore
i dont know what makes that happen i think its the old welcome to portal etc etc wich i deleted and replace with 1 press on the spacebar to make it blank instead of removing it in the php files
strangly enough i cant find where i did that anymore pffff dumbas me
abyway i hope you have enough info and are stil willing to help me out on this and btw thanks for the script ofc its really reaaly great and thanks for the support im really glad with that
for board news:
Find in /Sources/PortaMx/Class/boardnews.php
echo '
<div class="smalltext" style="float:'.$L_R.';">
'. $txt['pmx_boardnews_postby'] . $post['poster']['link'] .', '. $post['time'] .'
</div>
<div class="smalltext" style="float:'.$R_L.';">

'. $txt['pmx_boardnews_views'] . $this->boards[$post['id']]['views'] .'
</div>

Remove or comment out this part.
for recent topics:
Find in /Sources/PortaMx/Class/recent_topics.php
echo '
<a href="'. $post['href'] .'">'. $post['subject'] .'</a><br />
'.(empty($context['right_to_left']) ? $txt['by'] .' '. $post['poster']['link'] : $post['poster']['link'] .' '. $txt['by']).'<br />

I'm planning on installing this this week. I'm wondering if the current information from my current portal will transfer over or if I'll have to manually add everything myself.
You have to manually add everything ... all the portals are not compatible
Fel
hello again
first off love the portal but i stil cant get it right
i asked it couple of replys above also but it stil wont do the trick
i used another theme and as you can see the midle block wont line up with the right block
how can i do this padding etc etc is on 0 and no frames etc etc
You can enable Enable Forumarea horizontal scroll on overflow in the PortaMx Global Settings.
But I think, you theme is't full compatible with the default Curve theme, please check this part in your index.css file..
Fel
Hi peeps!
I've used this mod before, spent a good while configuring it then the server died! Agh, so I'm looking to do it all again. Now, I had 90% of people who favoured the PortaMx system but you can't please everyone.
Is there any chance I can have the permission to have the system on as default but also have another option to have it removed?
I've also considered having two installs using different domains but pointing to the same database. I could post on each domain and it would update on the other but I couldn't get it to work with and without the PortaMX!
Any advice....? Many thanks,
I don't understand your problem ???
If the portal not works, simple uninstall it.
Fel
As the owner of a brand-new kitty cat (and he's sooooo feline, too!), I have to say I want to go with PortaMX!!!! lol
ok, more seriously: Last nite I successfully installed PortaMX and liked it...but my main reason for wanting a portal is for having a more-integrated shoutbox for the forum. I've read all over SMF that PortaMX has a shoutbox, but for the life of me I couldn't figure out how to make it show up?
Currently we're using AjaxChat, which is okay, but like I said, we really need something more integrated (ie. permissions, warning system, and smilies). After being somewhat unsuccessful figuring out PortaMX's shoutbox, I installed SimplePortal, and was able to enable the shoutbox, but unlike AjaxChat, the SimplePortal shoutbox either has problems with IE7 or with my firewall at work...so it's not much help to me if I can't chat at all lol (everyone else can chat on it, I've posted on SP's site to find out if it's a javascript thing or what but still waiting to hear).
Anyway, I'm thinking about trying PortaMX again. Bottom line, our site is bilingual and it seems PortaMX is better suited for that? But can someone explain to me how to get the shoutbox to show?
TIA!
Cecilia (and Sammy the Kitten)
Simple go the the block manager, add a new block on a panel of your choice (click on the icon top right on the panel bar). Now you see the blocks manager with a default block. Open the dropdown top rihht to select a blocktyp ... your choice is the shoutbox. Fill in the setting, save and enable the block in the overview screen.
That's all ...
Fel
Thanks, Fel!
PortaMx looks nice...I got the shoutbox up...how do I get the emoticons/smilies to be the same ones used in the forum? Or is that not possible?
that is currently not possible... planned for the next update.
Fel
Cool. One more question: Is there a place to set the time on the shoutbox? It seems like it's set to a random time. I thought it would've picked up from the forum/user's profile, but it's not that, it's not local PC time, not really sure where it's coming from.
The members also prefer the AjaxChat--probably because it's not a shoutbox but a chat, even though we called it that, so they're a little spoiled ;). I'm thinking of maybe still using that instead of shoutbox, but is there a way to have it display in a PortaMX box? My big problem with AjaxChat is that it's just out there, so anybody could post on it, but maybe if it were in a box, it would be a bit more protected?
Thanks!
The time and date in the shoutbox is the forum time (same as in postings).
And I don't known ajaxchat, so I can't nothing say to that...

On our forum, it isn't. When I shouted at 9am-ish this morning, the shoutbox said 1am-ish...even the minutes were off a weird amount.
You have a time offset set in you profile ?

Fel
No. But even if I did, that would explain hours but not minutes different.
Try follow...
Find in the file /Sources/PortaMx/Class/shoutbox.php around line 430
echo '
</div>
<div style="padding:0px 1px 10px 1px;">
'. timeformat($data['time'], true, 'forum') .'<br />
'. $data['post'] .'
</div>
</div>';
Relace with:
echo '
</div>
<div style="padding:0px 1px 10px 1px;">
'. timeformat($data['time']) .'<br />
'. $data['post'] .'
</div>
</div>';
Fel
Hi Fel,
Thanks for the code, but I haven't tried it yet. The members prefered the Ajax Chat chatbox over the shoutbox...so unless it gets to be a problem, I decided to just leave it.
BUT we have a bigger problem. I love having the portal, it makes a lot of things more convenient, but it seems that since I installed it we've developed a strange "flickering" problem. It seems to happen when quoting someone's post, the reply box flickers back and forth, making typing really difficult. I don't see it much in Chrome or Firefox, but I see it a lot in Internet Explorer (which you know most people use anyway, unfortunately). I'm guessing maybe there's an HTML compatibility in there? Something to do with the size of the box? If I take the portal away, the problem goes away (or seems to).
Has anyone else experienced the flickering problem? I know the best solution is probably to not use IE, but in some case, members have no choice.
Ceci :)
it is an ie8 bug which affects SMF... turn ON compatibility mode.
how can i get the portalMx theme?

in the portalmx can i see sample for articles?

thanx!!!

And yes, for the Block In Block samples you can see the source code by click on the source code tab if you registered.

Hey,
I made a block, and I was attempting to put code in it, to fetch a drop-down menu for the Sub Accounts Mod.
Apparently, I failed miserably, and didn't close the code somewhere.
It's eaten all of my forum from the block down, on all accounts that have that block visible...
And all of those accounts were administrative...
And because of this, I cannot get in to the administration section to fix the error.
I have *no* idea how to fix it.
And I haven't made a back up recently; I need to get rid of this error, preferably without removing or destroying the posts that have been made on the forum. I don't care about anything else, but I need to save the posts.
Is this possible?!
Please, please help!!
Issue cleared on the PortaMx website.
Hi Fel,
The portal was working great, until we had to ban a few members and then hide the whole forum from guests.
Since I changed the permissions for guests to no longer see any part of the forum but the front page, I've been getting a ton of the following types of errors.
I'm guessing that there's a permission that I need to set inside PortaMx? But I can't find it. If you, or someone else, could point me in the right direction, I would really appreciate it.

Remove all the html element (mostly <br />) the are out side a echo '...'; or print '...' function.

now i get this error
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING in /usr/www/t3dark/public/Sources/PortaMx/Class/php.php(70) : eval()'d code on line 67
I think, you have to learn to write php code ;)
ALL html code MUST output withe the echo command like:
echo '<div>';
Look at the template files the delivered with smf or portamx. Also look at the php block samples on our support site.
Fel
yoi have extra <br> at the end of nearly every line (where they do not belong)
basically, that code is junk. It's not valid HTML, it's not valid php.
ok what do i need to do to make it work?
from where you get this code ? Link available?

I think, the installation fails, so you have to look with ftp on your server, if all files the the right place.
Fel
And what files should be where?
Look at the archive and you see the folder stucture like on you server.
I'm sure that you see a lot of 0 byte files where it must a folder ..

where can i find the admin center for portamx? just installed it on smf2.0rc4, got 3 errors 8)
real newb here and i cant seem to find it. by modular does this mean it doesnt install the admin center in my local mock board? i really need to fiddle with all it can do before i start uploading anything.
I think, this is answered on our support site ..

is there a way to turn the background color of a script or html block "black"
i am using photos with a black background in my blocks & they stand out against the "light black/dark grey" background. want to make it dark black.
thanks in advance, new to this & sorry if it is obvious in the program to do this option, but I couldn't find it.

THANKS SO MUCH....
new & learning.
*sigh*
I was uninstalling PortaMX v0.990.
I had a few manual removals to do;
./index.php
./Sources/Admin.php
./Sources/ModerationCenter.php
All of those were easily delt with, and having done that, I saved those files and pressed "Uninstall"
The page chewed on it for a moment, then gave me the lovely Blank Page.
I've requested help at the PortaMX site, but I wanted to throw it out here, in case someone who could point me in the direction of Recovery was about. I'm lost as a grain of rice in a snow field and would very much like to get my site back online.

(PS. I have tried "Repair Settings" without effect.)
The PortaMx corp. released the version 1.0 RC4 for SMF 2.0 RC4 / RC5 (and we hope) the last RC before v1.0 becomes gold.
If you have a older release (like v0.990) installed, this must uninstall these before.
Feline
Installed and working great ;D
Thanks Feline

how to activate sidebar from this portal keeping your normal forum as your homepage?
PortaMx Admin Centre > Settings Manager > Front page settings > tick No Frontpage, go directly to Forum
my new question: how to make the sidebar appear on index page only?

my new question: how to make the sidebar appear on index page only?
PortaMx Admin Center > Settings Manager > Panel settings > Hide the panel on section
Select
^Forums (hold down Strg-Key and take a double click to Forums)
The ^ at the front mean
Hide NOT .. Forums mean the boardindex, unread etc.

That is dependent on the Theme .. (catbg, titlebg) .. you can set on of the both, to see what comes.

Hi Feline
Yes I found it. Actually very easy to change the language. Thanks for that :)
I have new question:
When im writing an article (html - havent tried others) nothing happens when I hit the save buttons. So I was thinking of is there any chmod to do in some of the files in portamx?
UPDATE: Its more like its stuck when im editing something. Cancel dosent work either. I have changed the Frontpage text but now I cant change it again
/Jakob
If the html editor (fckeditor) works, on save the content is saved to the database ...
So I can't say what wrong if the fckeditor works..
Installed portamx on a new install of smf rc5 and all is working great except the fckeditor. When I try to insert an image or browse the server I get an error: the server didn't reply with a proper xml data. please check your configuration. Any suggestions or help would be appreciated.
I just installed PortaxMX but have the following error:

extract the file dbinstall.php from the archive (path \install) and copy this with ftp to your server in the forum root (where you find the SSI.php). Open a browser, enter your url and add /dbinstall.php at the end.
Now the missing table(s) are recreated...

Any solutions?
Look at this help:

it's the php.ini
feline,
Thank you for your reply. Actually, I fixed the errors by editing lines 1182, 1220, and 1221 of the Sources/PortaMx/LoadData.php file.
Line 1182:
Find
$fnd = find_cat_insert_pos(&$cats[$ofs]['childs'], $cat, $id);
Replace with
$fnd = find_cat_insert_pos($cats[$ofs]['childs'], $cat, $id);
Line 1220:
Find
find_cat_insert_pos(&$result, $cat, $cat['parent']);
Replace with
find_cat_insert_pos($result, $cat, $cat['parent']);
Line 1221:
Find
elseif(find_cat_insert_pos(&$result, $cat, 0) == false)
Replace with
elseif(find_cat_insert_pos($result, $cat, 0) == false)
Apparently, the ampersand (&) is the culprit. Removing "&" from those lines resolved the errors I was receiving from the Admin Error log.
if you remove the &, the function don't work.
We work on a fix for this, for now you can add the string
php_value allow_call_time_pass_reference 1
in your .htaccess on the forum root.
If you not have a .htaccess create a new.
Hi, sorry if this has been asked before ...
I installed PortaMX using the package install feature of SMF and while SMF said PortaMX was installed successfully, there were a lot of PortaMX files and directories missing from the SMF installation. I manually ftp-ed all of the PortaMX files to my smf directory and everything appears to be okay.
My question is: "how can I make certain that my install of PortaMx is correct?". Can I run install again or, do I have to uninstall to run install again? I am not getting any errors from PortaMX or SMF
I'm running SMF 2.0
thanks in advance for your help.
I would suggest using it ;)
If you have no errors, then what is the problem?
There were a lot of PortaMix directories that failed to upload. THIS resulted in no access to the board until I uploaded the missing files and directories.
When you select forums from which the portal takes "news" to display in the block on the front page, can PortaMX be configured to display full posts with the flash and images that are in the posts on the front page?
If you will that, then leave Number of words before tease empty. In this case the full post is shown.
Click at the (i) symbols in the settings for more help on all the settings options...
Great! Thanks for your help. being able to select multiple forums for news and to display full posts in the portal is just what I needed to migrate from ipb to smf.
I just noticed that clicking on a post in the portal generates a full view pop-up of the post.
That is done by a HighSlide viewer, but you can disable that in the Block settings (check Disable HighSlide viewer) or globally in the Global Settings (check Disable HighSlide viewer globally).
Great mod! Installed perfectly... I added a right block the first time, worked great but suddenly the 'create a new block' link/icon isn't working when you click on it. I can't create a new block or article. Any ideas?
I installed a new SMF 2 version and install the mod again. This time it worked fine but after a while the links which are using Java is not working. The links like add a block/article etc. + the icon to move the blacks around.
That's the latest update. Hope someone can help with this issue...

test to reload the page before click on the icon.
We work on this problem ...
Thank you, feline. Yes, I've tried to reload the page before clicking the link, but the problem is still not solved.
Sorry if this question has been asked before, but I can't seem to find a specific and detailed answer anywhere.
My server doesn't permit FTP access, so the mod won't install. I do have SSH access, and can make the permission changes that way, however I don't know what to set the permissions to, if the owner:group matters, or exactly which files out of the one's marked for modification by the mod installer during install time to change.
Many thanks :)
Normally it's enough to set Folder to 755 and files to 644 ..
But .. I'v never see a server without ftp access :o .. if is a dedicated server you can setup a ftp account ;)
I'm slightly paranoid on the server access side, so I only have sftp (same as ssh) ports available, and of course https/https. I'd rather not change the iptables to allow it. So, your solution seems nice :-)
Thank you.
Lastly, was wondering if it would be best to install the portal mod first and then follow it up it other smaller mods for some post related features. Should I reserve the portal as the last mod to get applied on the site? Not sure if it makes a big difference. :-)
I think it's better to install bigger mods as first ..
BTW .. for sftp and windows is a good tool available .. WinSCP supports sftp
FileZilla also support sftp - excellent ftp client.
Ahh ok .. thanks for this info.
I never used other then WinSCP .. so I don't know any other ;)

I banned just because I have shown you that you have errors that do not know the remedy.
Admit that you blame all around and you spit on the SMF team that they are incapable.
Have not yet made or any of the correct version that you do not have huge errors
SimpleSEF for you, is not capable.
Aeva media for you, is not capable.
Facebook comment mod for you, is not capable.
Feline do not be conceited and listen to the advice of people smarter
I told you that you can always take another portal, if you are not satisfied with PortaMx.
But that's no reason not agree establish the assertions here. You'd better read the license.

It is acceptable to point out errors. However, the way you have attempted to force your opinion and the way you have chosen to express your opinion is unacceptable. I know that there is a language barrier here, but since you are communicating in English, I am going to hold you to English standards for politeness, which you have distinctly violated.
There is no call to fling names, or to call feline a liar or stupid.
Stop. Cease. Desist.
If you do not like her mod, then do not use it.
If you were capable of expressing yourself without insults, then I might allow you to continue, but since you seem incapable of doing so, I will mute/warn you on the next attack and ban you ifitcontinues after that.
Thanks Kindred ..
But as I just see, have Mihac removed the PortaMx copyright. That is a license violation they we can't accept.

Feline please do not falsely that I moved PortaMx copyright.
Your PortaMx copyright overlaps with the script SimpleSEF, Aeva media and even many others, so your Portal is not working properly. Here you go alone and do not try the costs of error.
As you no shame?
Relating to the copyright violation you have received an email from us.
The consequences will have to carry you ...
And now .. stop your spamming please.
Just messing with this so bit of a noobie if someone could explain to me how to change a few things please,

Set the access right for all block you have on the frontpage.
Hi there, I though I installed this without error but when I trying to make a post on my forum, the posting area becomes like this
(https://www.simplemachines.org/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi52.tinypic.com%2Ftamog1.jpg&hash=2a2f7cf834ce3e72dba418ecd6439442544946e9)
the same with a default theme

Then when Im making script blocks or php blocks the panels also is as wide as the screen shot show. It's over to the right side of the screen.
Browser you use?

PortaMx v1.4 developed
PortaMx v1.4 is a update for PortaMx v1.0 / v1.1 / v1.2 / v1.3 and a full install package.
This release fixed all known bugs we found in the previous releases.
PortaMx versions older then 1.0 must be uninstall before.
try to install it to my forum but the process is too slow & i got
"408 Request Time-out"
This request takes too long to process, it is timed out by the server. If it should not be timed out, please contact administrator of this web site to increase 'Connection Timeout'.
Is it safe to request on my webhost to increase the connection time out?
You can call him .. more I can't say ;)
Well it looks like when I install this package. a warning says that it needs to change to make some files writable. That I think is the problem why i got request time out. Can you please tell me what files should be in wriatble status so that I can change that in FTP not via installation itself
Simple try the package parser here or on our site to see which files changed and installed ...
question please, when upgrading do i check the "Remove all data associated with this modification" when i uninstall 1.3 version ?
thanks
if you will update from 1.3 to 1.4 you need no uninstall .. the v1.4 can update a existing 1.3.
When you uninstall before apply v1.4, leave the database tables untouched (NOT check "Remove all data associated with this modification"), these are automatically converted to the new release.
I have answered you question on our Support Site ..
when i did the 2.01 upgrade to smf, the installed portamx disappeared from admin. The package manager shows 1.4 installed but the uninstall doesn't work. the package manager seems to indicate that portamx 1.4 is current version and the 1.41version of portamx I downloaded for portamx.com is older.
okay, I clicked on 2.0 emulation and then 1.41 upgrade option appeared and installed but there is no portamx menu in admin.
How are you getting the seo friendly urls on your site that have the title of the posts in the url?
You have use a small or large update for SMF 2.0.1?
I used the small upgrade, I was already using smf 2.0
In this case the Portal installation is nevermore complete.
Try a uninstall (ignore all errors) and install again..
how are you getting the seo friendly urls? is this part of portamx?
Yes .. See PortaMx Admin - SEF Manager
thanks for your help and the great mod
PortaMx v1.45 developed
PortaMx v1.45 is a update for PortaMx v1.0 / v1.1 / v1.2 / v1.3 / v1.4 /v1.41 and a full install package.
This release fixed all known bugs we found in the previous releases.
PortaMx versions older then 1.0 must be uninstall before.
I installed portamx and am having problems with adding blocks to the top center and head areas. Originally blocks were working but then disappeared. Can someone help me?
Don't post here AND on our support site ...
Installing PortaMX v1.45 on a freshly installed SMF 2.0.1 resulted in:
Fatal error: require_once() [function.require]: Failed opening required '... /Sources/PortaMx/Class/System/PortaMx_BlocksClass.php' (include_path='.:/usr/local/lib/php') in ... /Sources/PortaMx/PortaMx.php on line 75
Seems like the Class subfolder is missing.
Thereä's no big problem since I did this to my test installation and I can wipe out the whole installation, but I wonder what causes this.
This is often a problem if the SMF package manager can't create folders...

Haven't had the problem with any other MODs though. Perhaps a word of caution would be in place in the instructions?
Question. I've had problems with Ajaxchat in combination with the 1.41 version. The frontpage-block conflicted with chat-access for my users.
(Took me ALOT of time before figuring this out :D )
Now I'd like to try this one, 1.45, hoping the problem won't occur again. It might just have been a setting problem from my side, but since I've been working on this so much, I might as well use the upgraded version.
Now the question, I'm trying to uninstall, but the packagemanager won't let me. I've been emulating some versions, but no uninstall button.
I've read that this is also an upgrade, but since it caused me problems, I'd like to have a fresh start.
Is there a way to uninstall manually, without editing the database?
Or is it completely safe to do the upgrade?
Smf version is 2.01 btw.
Which version of PortaMx you have currently installed?
same as I said, the 1.41 version.
You can update a installed 1.41 and you can uninstall the installed 1.41. For uninstall you have to emulate a SMF 2.0
Ok, thanks. Of all the emulations, I didn't try that one. This worked.
Manually, I had to alter ./Boardindex.php, but that wasn't a problem.
But now I do have one. I installed Portamx 1.45, and it gave me one error.
Same as before, the boardindex. Figured out wat that was, I made a mistake. Fixed that, still no problem.
But the installer didn't make any changes to my files. It only installed database tables en copied the files.
I followed the parser, to get it to work.
But in the first bit, I immediately got an error:
Fatal error: Call to undefined function PortaMx() in C:\Inetpub\vhosts\mydomain.com\httpdocs\index.php on line 210.
Everything else went fine. Also, I don't have an admin panel.
Look if the packagemanger have copied all files (compare the folder with the archive).
Checked that, it did. All files copied.
I have a test forum copied on mij local machine, and there the install was no problem at all.
As extra theme to install to, I also haven't see the Core theme options, which dó appear on my testforum.
Now I have to say, I'm on a Windows server, and I've had small problems before with not being able to change Chmod,
but nothing like this.
I've uninstalled and installed 3 times now (most of it manually, because of errors) to no effect.
Sorry, but I've been working on it for 5 hours, and I gave up. I'm using another portalmod now.
Thought, maybe you have some use for this info.
Thanks for your support
Hello!
I use Menu Icons mode. After installing PortaMX I cannot find where is the Community button. It not in Subs.php. I would add icon manual.
(https://www.simplemachines.org/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg837.imageshack.us%2Fimg837%2F270%2Feditlanguages.png&hash=e0949e4432a300ac2f84f945d11d2db287c1f4cb)
That button you find in the file /Sources/PortaMx/PortaMxIntegrate.php below line 190 ...
Thank you for your response.
What went wrong? Button does not appear...
'community' => array(
'Forum','title' => $txt['forum'], '<img align="absMiddle" src="http://img560.imageshack.us/img560/2254/forumhk.jpg" alt="Forum" /> ',
'href' => $scripturl . '?action=community',
'active_button' => false,
'sub_buttons' => array(
),
P.S. This is a test in Wamp server.
Try this:
'community' => array(
'title' => $txt['forum'] .' <img align="absMiddle" src="http://img560.imageshack.us/img560/2254/forumhk.jpg" alt="Forum" />',
'href' => $scripturl . '?action=community',
'active_button' => false,
'sub_buttons' => array(
),
Now the button show as atached image ;)
Works, but the icon is behind the words. Need to be in front.
then put the image code in the right place....
Then try this ..
'community' => array(
'title' => '<img align="absMiddle" src="http://img560.imageshack.us/img560/2254/forumhk.jpg" alt="Forum" /> '. $txt['forum'],
'href' => $scripturl . '?action=community',

Thank you for assistance Feline. I've canceled the instalation of this portal. My friend from IT support will help me, that's his profession.
Kindest regards,
Pikeman
Pikeman, I see You did not installed it yet?
What happened ?
Before PortaMX installation on my forum, I've been testing it on localhost using Wamp Server.
Installation went trough with no problems and no errors.
I liked the portal and I wanted to install it on my forum.
During the installation the scrypt didn't report any errors, it told me that some permissions must be unlocked, so I allowed it.
After that, the installation finished with the report that it was succesfull.
Just after that, I couldn't open any page on my forum.
This was the error:
QuoteFatal error: require_once() [function.require]: Failed opening required '/home/pikeman/public_html/Sources/PortaMx/Class/System/PortaMx_BlocksClass.php' (include_path='.:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php') in /home/pikeman/public_html/Sources/PortaMx/PortaMx.php on line 75
Line 75: require_once($context['pmx_sysclassdir']. 'PortaMx_BlocksClass.php');
Can it be that some of the installed mods were making problem?
As I say above .. Please check if the installation correct and all files and folder exist on your server.
It's often a problem that SMF can't create new folder but don't notice that. In this case a 0-byte file is created instead of a new folder.
So you have to check that, and after removing of the 0 byte files, you can copy all folder and files from a locally extracted archive with ftp to your server.
I am looking for a users how-to on PortaMx. I have been trying to do several things with it and I think I am just confusing myself. For instance...
I want to have a left block on the forum/community only that will list either article categories or articles. Currently after playing around with the blocks, categories and article settings, I have ended up with the category name and article showing on the home page (not block). I did have the block showing at one point on the forum, but the whole article showed in the block instead of just the name.
That can be done with a small php block. You find a example here: http://portamx.com/pages/article-list-sample/
Thanks, I am getting a parse error, but maybe I can find some more info on this.
PortaMx is now also available on Mobile devices ... see attached image :D

now for a question.....
Any easy way to transfer content from the SMF articles mod into the articles of the portaMX? Or do I have to write a transfer script directly in mySQL?

I don't know SMF articles, but you can simple copy the content (if is bbc or html) if you have less articles.
For a bigger count of articles, you can make that with a php script. In this case create a new article with a content like "test", then you can use this one to create your articles from SMF articles by read and insert the content. Note that the "id" field don't have a auto increment, so you have have to read the max(id) before insert a new record in the table.
thanks for the explanation. That makes a bit of sense. :)
heh.... I haven't even figured out how to deal with the SMF git. :P
Yeah, that's basically what I ended up doing, although I didn't bother with a php script...
I ended up doing some manual SQL queries to fill the table (I have 65 categories and 1,000 articles)
I added the Category IDs article IDs using an export, then a direct insert.
--CATEGORIES
--add all the category IDs into the new table, then run the following

Well .. we use the name directly in the url ... better to memory as a simple number ;)
So your script can create categories and articles from SMF articles mod ?
That was great ... :)
If you have it done, let me take a look at you site ...
You are correct... using the name in the url makes more sense (overall) Although some of the longer titles may get a little twitchy. I don't know what vbgamer's mod actually uses the "seotitle" field for, but it seemed like the best choice
yes, the script lines below will convert - however, I did have to manually fill the table (first) with the IDs for the rest to be done via matching id with ID
As for looking at the site... :)
It's not finished converting yet... I added the tables separate form the mod installation in order to do it all in the background. Oover the weekend, I am going to uninstall ezportal and smf articles and install portaMX. So the conversion should be complete by Monday. :)
Well .. i will wait for your site ;)

For SEO (PortaMx SEO enabled) we use the "Title" field in the url (dependent on forum language), so the name is only relevant in the normal url ...
BTW: The language tweaks I have updated, so you can replace the language files from our language server ...
Feline,
I love all the options and features in PortaMX (it is definitely the most powerful and customizable portal mod)
However, with all those options comes major confusion... and I am at the same point I was when I first considered PortaMX a few years ago. I am confused beyond belief. :(
(and my confusion last time, ended up with me using EXportal instead... which is why I am back here again, trying to figure this one out.)
I added blocks to the front page section.
They don't show... only the original HTML block that comes with PortaMX is being displayed.
(I set the visibility to all groups and I set the status to active)
I added articles... I can not see any way to get the users into the articles catgeories... I can't add a menu item called "articles" which links to the categories list (which is my preferred choice), I can't even seem to display the category block...
I really want to drop vbgamers mods and start using PortaMX on 40Konline... but there are so many settings that I apparently need an instruction manual to even set up a block let alone use the articles manager)
Can you help?
Normally it's enough to create a block, give the rights who can see the block and enable the block (Status) in the overview screen. As Administrator you can see the block all ways.
One tip I can give: Don't use the Dynamic visibility options if you don't need specially visibility.
Categories / Articles are a little bit more complexed ..
Articles can be ordered into Categories (it's only a logical thing) and the category access CAN inherit to the articles. If this enabled, the article itself need no access rights and can't requested directly.
We have a "Static Category Block" and a "Static Article Block" to show a Category or Article on the frontpage.
Also you can create a link block (with a php or script block as example) to show the categories on request.
To request a categories use index.php?cat=categoryname, for articles use index.php?art=articlename
You find a lot of informations and helps on our support site.
If you need more specific help, I need admin access to your site ...
Yep, I have some test categories and articles set up and assigned. That is completely logical and straight forward.
my confusion comes when trying to get to them. :)
PM sent with information.
finally... is there any way to get a page with a list of all categories?
I am replacing the SMF articles mod... So I am looking to duplicate at leats this much functionality. :) (the rest of your articles system is already much better)
recent articles block on the main page: http://www.40konline.com/index.php
categories page: http://www.40konline.com/index.php?action=articles
I answered to you PM ;)
For the other both questions .. this can be done with php blocks and if you need help for this, let me known ...
When I try to install this mod it gives me a all blank white page :l
looking for support in your forums, seems dead ? o.o nobody there
We all don't have 24h support ... ;)
This is a little offtop, since it's about PMXBlog. I just don't like to register in to many places.
The PMXBlog has a little bug in it. When publishing posts sometimes "Wrong value type sent to the database. Integer expected. (colval)" error occur (I used the GIT version, downloaded yesterday, SMF 2.0.3).
In error log I found this:
QuoteWrong value type sent to the database. Integer expected. (colval)
Function: PmxBlogManager
...
File: /var/www/.../Sources/PmxBlogManager.php
String: 153
I added
trim($colval) and it looks like the error disappeared.
We will take a look at that problem and push a fix on github....
-How can i add the SA facebook, twitter, google+ login mod to the portamx login in box?
-How can i create pages?
Today we released the version PortaMx 1.54 ecl for SMF 2.0.x
This version fixed a lot of smaller bugs the users have reported and we found.
We update the RSS reader to work with a https protocol and modify some other functions.
You can update a installed version 1.52/1.53 or make a fresh install.
Look at your PortaMx Admin Center to see the Update option.
I am using portamx on 2.0.11. I love that so many options and features are there but at same time its confusing.I also have situation like kindred. Your predifined HTML block show no matter what i change to but when with same setting i create second block on front page it doesmt show up.please help me
If you create a new block and save him, you must enable the block in the overview screen. To see all option you have on the overview, move the mouse over the entrys to see a small help ...
More help you can find on http://portamx.com/category/portamx-documentation/
Sorry that was redsy fault. It doesnt show that option so i could not figure out it.Its working now.one minor problem is that when installing this mod on redsy theme i got test failed on display.template.php.i went to that file and the code was present there which script is trying to find but its showing test failed. Why?
I think portamx places cookies to show the blocks because when i reset all to other theme it doesnt change the theme but when i clear the cookies it show other theme. This do not happen when portamx is not installed.I dont whats happening with me
Any mod and also PortaMx is designed for the default SMF Theme. It works on many other Themes, but not at all. That we can't test. So if you have problems use the default theme specially for the Admin part..
While installing on a fresh install I am getting errors on the following:
1. Replace ./Sources/Load.php Test failed
1. Add After ./Sources/LogInOut.php Test failed
As far as I can tell, everything seems to be working (on a 6 year old install that has been upgraded) so I decided to REINSTALL a fresh SMF install and a fresh PortaMX install. . . . still getting the exact same error. What am I doing wrong?
I update the PortaMx package today to work with SMF 2.0.15 and also php 7.
This new archive you can download on our Site ..

Hey there Fel,
I am having troubles downloading this onto my site 2.0.15 ... When the version that I got off of this SMF site did not work, even in emulation mode, I checked here.
I found the new version on your site and tried downloading it like a normal mod package. It did not work, though it did instruct me on how to download it VIA my FTP inside the Packages folder. It said that I would be able to find the package in "Browse Packages" after the download, I have not.
I even changed the file attributes to 777 just to see if this did anything. Nothing.
Any ideas? I would really like to get your portal working. It just seems perfect for my purposes..
Thanks for the help,
Kali
Just tried it on a fresh 2.0.15 install (no mods or additional themes). It reports errors on Load.php and LogInOut.php.
Load.php failed test.
function loadUserSettings()
{
global $modSettings, $user_settings, $sourcedir, $smcFunc;
global $cookiename, $user_info, $language;
// Check first the integration, then the cookie, and last the session.
if (count($integration_ids = call_integration_hook('integrate_verify_user')) > 0)
function loadUserSettings($checkOnly = false)
{
global $modSettings, $user_settings, $sourcedir, $smcFunc;
global $cookiename, $user_info, $language;
// Check first the integration, then the cookie, and last the session.
if (empty($checkOnly) && count($integration_ids = call_integration_hook('integrate_verify_user')) > 0)
LogInOut.php failed test.
function Login()

Was that from the version on the SMF site?
https://www.portamx.com/pages/portamx-downloads/ ----This page has a patch to fix the login issue for smf 2.0.15
This is what happens when I try to install the version on the smf site onto my smf forum:
5. Execute Modification ./Sources/Load.php Test failed
1. Replace ./Sources/Load.php Test failed
6. Execute Modification ./Sources/LogInOut.php Test failed
1. Add After ./Sources/LogInOut.php Test failed
As well as a fail in the theme that I like to use on my site, but that isn't such a big deal.
I would really like to get this portal on my site, I just wish I was more technologically inclined, so that I don't have to ask for help every time something fails :D
So I am just not sure if I should just go ahead with the SMF version download and then ad the bit of an update on the PortaMx page, or what.
I don't really want to proceed and end up having to load a backup of my site! hah!
I think I may have been confused about some things when it came to what to download from the PortaMx site.
I am just going to shoot for the version on SMF and manually install the update. I'll post on my success! thanks!
P.S. Is there a way, after installation that I am able to find these errors?
How do you find them with manual installation?
Thanks again GigaWatt, you are always jumping in to help. :D

Load.php and

This shouldn't happen with a mod on a fresh (vanilla) install, as it was in my case. Some mods may fail to install due to other mods that are already installed, but, the test should usually be made on a fresh install. If it fails to install on the default theme with no mods, then the mod is buggy.

I would wait for the author to reply or write about this bug on the PortaMX forum (you can quote my post if they someone asks for a more detailed description of what went wrong during the installation). I would definitely not execute the installation since
Load.php and
LogInOut.php are both part of the more important core files in SMF. Without them, things might not load at all or you won't be able to log in on the forum, even with the default theme (Curve). In short, your risk breaking your forum.

As I said, I wouldn't do that.
Could you at least wait till I try to install it on my test site? I'll report if something went wrong or if it' just a minor problem and could be fixed manually.

You could find them even before the mod is installed. There is a little notepad icon on the left side of the file that reports the error. Either click on it or right click --> open in new tab. The Replace and Add code snippets from my previous post are copied from that page.

By manual installation, you mean manually editing code yourself or manually uploading the mod file through the "Browse" button in SMF?

By manual installation I mean installing it using my FileZilla (which I am not even positive is an actual option at this point)

You could try and upload the zipped archive via FileZilla and see if SMF picks up the mod from the Packages directory, but this should be done only in cases where, for some reason, the online uploader (the "Browse" button) is not working.
If you mean locally unpacking and uploading the files, then no, I wouldn't do that. The installer has to do some edits to some of the source files in SMF, so just uploading all of them in some directory in SMF wouldn't work.

I assume the PHP file in the
user_login.zip archive should be overwritten. Just in case, it's wise to make a backup (name the original file
user_login.php.bak and copy the modified file in the same directory). The
user_login.php file resides in
forum_root/Sources/PortaMx/Class and if you were asking about the fixed file, yes, it's supposed to be uploaded via FTP (or your host's file manager, your choice... though FTP is usually faster, at least for changing between directories and going back and forth in your webspace ;)).
OK, the good news is, the mod didn't break the forum. The bad news is, you can't edit what the portal actually shows (looks like). The default selection is the only thing that you can edit and if you remove anything from it (for example, the statistics block), you can't bring it by adding it in the panel again :S.
I'd wait for the author to reply the questions regarding the errors.
BTW, the user login fix wokrs. You can't login without applying it. I'm guessing it's the same login security fix that's applied in 2.0.14.
Thanks GigaWatt.
I am just pretty wishy-washy about all of the portals I have tried so far. Many of them have many really great attributes, just not what I am looking for.
After digging a bit into this one, I have a feeling that it may be the same..
What are you hoping to get out of a portal?

What are you hoping to get out of a portal?
Well, most of the features I would like I have seen in some portal somewhere. Except I have decided that I would like to change my site so that it is built from one platform- this forum. This is a pretty new decision. I was actually advised to do it originally, though I had just finished building my "main pages" and didn't want to let go of how pretty they were for some functionality. I am ready now.
So I am going to need several extra pages, including a frontpage. Preferably with easy blocks editing.
Something that I have been actively looking for, I feel like I have tried and tested just about everything out at this point, is a nice, clean looking blog/article addition (portal or not, most of them can probably be fixed up with the right theme). I need this article section to be easily accessed, preferably with the option to let others keep their own- with restrictions. And very photo friendly. I want the main photo associated to be posted with the title of the article- and maybe even a tiny description. (I am working on getting the photo thing running with a mod now...not sure how it will translate into whatever article mod I go with though)
Right now I have my "journal" on wordpress.
I also want to be able to connect everything up and use the forum to run a "comment section" at the bottom of every single non-forum page. This seems like it would work easiest and cleanest on one platform.
Using code to write this doesn't really seem plausible, anything I put together in code could possibly work on wordpress (doesn't seem worth the hassle), but from what I've learned I would not be able to implement this into the website builder I have on my other pages.
(I am very new to coding)
I feel like I got to rambling.
I want:
-To build a nice, clean site around my forum with several pages
-To build an attractive, clean journal with photos at the title link
-More options to journal such as excerpt at title link
-Functionality, with options to place extra comment sections in blocks
Another option I was thinking of looking into was to find out if there is some other platform that is easily integrated with SMF. It would need to be free.
****** I am working on this just hoping that I will have the money to pay a host soon. Today is my due date- so I get 2 weeks from today before my site is shut down. HAH! I found some decent prices around. I should be able to come up with the money in the next couple weeks.
Honestly I think TinyPortal is the nearest to your requirements right now but to achieve all of that will require custom code to do it well.

Thanks for your recommendation. I like that TinyPortal a lot!
And it's being actively developed and supported ;). Not that PortaMx is not, but the developer is kind of moving away from the portal mod and trying their own separate portal + forum solution (PortaMX + SMF 2.1).
I wouldn't describe it as that, I'd describe it as a competing forum package, called PortaMX-Forum.

Exacly .. ;)
It's a complete Forum Package with a Portal, SEF and more features, that is also full compatible with PHP 7.2, https, http/2 and the EU GDPR !!
I have created this, because SMF don't love my changes and updates they need on SMF 2.1 to get a modern, perfect designed (also for mobile devices) and bug free running System..
After a long Time to work on this Forum (~ one year, I think), I can say, that this Product very stable.
Currently we work on the next update and we a near to the Release 1.4.1 ..
So .. if anyone have Interest on a modern and stable running Forum, that all have included what you need .. Go to PortaMx ;)
Opps ... Now I'm sure I'll get the next lock on SMF  (or this post is removed)

The link is above every post ;). Just go above every post, in the "Re: Blah blah blah" line, right click, copy link ;).
I've got a Properties extension added in my browser, so I just usually go "the long way round", right click --> Properties --> mark the link --> Ctrl + C ::). I know, not really optimal, but it's a habit from the days browsers were not that "intelligent" :D.

Awesome! Thanks. I hadn't even thought about doing that, it certainly helps keep track of things!
Now that I am using social media to market my website and articles, I need to do more stuff like this.
I just realized a few weeks ago that, on facebook, you can copy the link address of a post and paste it into the comment section of another post- having it show up like a regular post share in the comments!
Great for self-promotion. :D
@GigaWatt, it's historically been a waste of time trying to be nice to Feline.
Hi *,
to avoid to switch a portal (until SMF 2.1 is released) or to downgrade to an older PHP version i have forked PortaMx on github and incorporated a few minor fixes i had collected to have at least some sort of compatibility with newer SMF and PHP updates:
hxxps://github.com/iasdeoupxe/PortaMx-1.54-ecl (external links not allowed)
Testing of / further contributions to the source code above are welcome.
I have also submitted these to the upstream repo hxxs://github.com/PortaMx/PortaMx-1.54-ecl but i doubt that these will be incorporated there as the repo looks quite abandoned.
If there is still some one using this Portal / Software this is an important security warning:
It seems a few months ago the portamx.com domain was completely unavailable and in the meantime there is some kind of "parking page" which means that ownership might have been taken over by some unknown entity.
This could also mean that a malicious new owner of that domain could e.g. create a new update server which is publishing a malicious update package (e.g. with injected malware / web shell or similar).
If you still want to keep this software running it is strongly suggested to e.g. edit your /etc/hosts file and replace something like this:
127.0.0.1 localhost
::1 localhost ip6-localhost ip6-loopback
by this:
127.0.0.1 localhost docserver.portamx.com portamx.com
::1 localhost ip6-localhost ip6-loopback docserver.portamx.com portamx.com
so that all requests are hitting your own host and not the problematic not valid domain anymore.
Edit:
If you don't trust me please read up what the "/etc/hosts" is on public available resources (e.g. found via Google) to see that this is not doing something malicious to your own PC.
