Title: [Theme] Cerberus (SMF 1.0.5 - 1.1RC2)
Post by: bloc on March 21, 2005, 03:34:21 PM
This is a dark theme very similar to Helios, no wonder since it was created shortly after..! I just looked at it again , and decided to release it anyway. It has a "htmlbox" where you can add your own HTML content, like pictures, text etc. that will appear just above the userinfo section. This also has the option of being aligned left/center or right.

Graphics are free to use as long as they stay within the context of a SMF forum. All comments are welcome. :)

Love the theme, and just using it now. Is there a way that I can get it to link back to my home page? Perhaps using the actual site name at the top? Any idea if you can or what code you would need, and lol where that code would go?

There is an option in admin/current theme settings called "htmlbox". you could put a link/button/image whatever there for example. It will sit just over the "userinfo" section.

If you want to use the forum name, search in index.template.php for:
class="forum_name">'.$context['forum_name'].'</td>

and just use something like:
class="forum_name"><a href="yourlink">'.$context['forum_name'].'</a></td>

Really great!!!

I just tried to change the black background to some other color like:

============
/* The main body of the entire forum. */
body
{
        background-color: #666699;
        margin: 0px;
        padding: 5px 20px 5px 20px;
}
=========

But it did not change the color at all. In fact none of the other color work and the forum still look black as before.

May I know how can I change this black background to some other color?

If you try to change the class .headerarea, it will change some. But theres is also a lot of graphics that have a black background..they will shine through still - as black areas.

I wont change the black color, it is after all a dark theme. The "metal" graphics will eventually made be in different colors though.

Hm..that IS strange..normally a mod just modifies the DEFAULT boardindex.template.php.

For one, the default theme will not be modifed correctly like this, and second, Cerberus Boardindex will not *match* what the mod is looking for. Simply because default and Cerberus is different.

Was this straight from the mod, or did you modify the mod files..?

All buttons are defined in index.template.php, in the function "template_menu()" - if its the top menu buttons you mean(home, help etc.)

Take a look at it, it should be straight-forward to just copy the ones already there.

Most likely an old version of SMF..the theme is made for SMF v1.0-1.0.3. What version are you using?

What setting do I need to adjust to insure the catagories are visable from the index even for guests?  Right now the problem I'm having is you need to be logged-in before you can even see what the catagories are.  I understand that permissions sets whether someone can post or not, but I want even guests to at least be able to see the posts without having to register.

Check that the setting "Allow guests to browse the forum" is set. You will find in "Admin/edit features and options".

Post by: Brotherman on June 01, 2005, 04:43:51 AM
Yes, that option has been checked.  But it still doesn't allow guests to see catagories inside the board.  Topics are not seen unless logged-in.  Any other suggestion?

And incidentally, I noticed the same problem exists when I just tried switching over to your other Helios_Multi theme as well.  Seems like it must be in the scripting, although I'm not sure.  Both themes are beautiful, BTW.  Which is why I'd really like it to work.

Categories inside the board? You don't mean "child boards" by any chance?

If so, you need to set it to display that as default . Look in "current theme settings" / "Change the default member specific options." / "Show child boards on every page inside boards, not just the first."

But really, I would check the permissions..it seems to be something there, since both themes work exactly like the default theme regarding showing/not showing topics for guests.

Post by: Brotherman on June 01, 2005, 05:58:10 PM
Perhaps I mis-spoke.  When I say Catagories inside the board, I guess I'm speaking of the board index, not the child boards.  Unless one is logged-in, you can't see any boards whatsoever.  I've checked and rechecked your advice: "current theme settings" / "Change the default member specific options." / "Show child boards on every page inside boards, not just the first."  The problem remains.  And I've also checked the permissions for "Unregisted Guests" and it seems to be in order, but the problem still exists.

I've emailed you a link to my forum in hopes that you can see something that I might be missing.

Okay, I have another question.  I notice that when someone makes a reply to a topic, even if it was a topic that was at the bottom (an older subject), once the reply is posted it brings that topic back to the top of the list.  Where do I adjust that so that the topic stays in the same order.

I'm trying to have all new posts at the top, and then moved downward as new topics are posted.  And I would like it so that even if someone replies to an older topic, it stays in that order, and not brought up to the top of the list of topics.  I'm wondering, is that something that can be set for the entire forum, or like my last issue, must that be set per section?

Post by: bloc on June 03, 2005, 06:18:03 AM
No, this is for the whole forum . But you can press the headers , subject,last post etc. to sort by that. Other than that I don't think its possible to make new replies NOT bring old topics on top, as long as it sorts on "last post". Should have been "last topic" or something.. ;)

Greek letters? It would have to be another font then, I will see if I can change that/add option..darn, I need to use fonts that have support for more languages in the future.  :)

Great! I just installed the new version (toghether with smf1.1beta). All things works fine, except one little thing:
If I click at the top on "user info", the broad table (with the avatar of the user and so on) doesn't collapse - it stays. Any hint? Thank you so much!

Bloc - great theme! I am using now in my forum, however I found this error code in the logs.

8: Undefined index: memberCount
File: /home/delta/public_html/forums/Themes/default/Errors.template.php (eval?)
Line: 272

Any idea why it would still be searching for the default theme folder?
I am running 2 mods. Googlebot & OnlineUser mods. I know it sounds like the OnlineUser mod is causing the problem, but I checked issues with that mod and found that the above error log was usually generated by when v1.1 beta 3 mods were used with v1.0 themes... (which isn't the case here).

Any suggestions?
Title: Re: [Theme] Cerberus (SMF 1.0.5 / 1.1beta3)
Post by: bloc on July 27, 2005, 04:44:28 AM
The theme doesn't modify the Errors.template.php file, so it just "fallback" to the default theme folder - which is correct. :)

The "membercount" is wrong..(i have to update that)..it should say "totalMembers". Not a big error , but nonetheless.

EDIT: that is in both index.tempalte.php and BoardIndex.tempalte.php of Cerberus.

Thanks

I've been trying to find the answer on my own, so I hope this is the correct forum for my question.  It has to do with the Calender section.  In Cerberus, the current day has a background color of sky blue.  How or Where do I change that color?

Just using the marquee tag won't work, since it is just horisontal..so you would have to use a javascript for this. If you do that, then this is the code bit that do the recent posts:

                        echo '
                        <table width="100%" border="0">';
                        /* Each post in latest_posts has:
                                board (with an id, name, and link.), topic (the topic's id.), poster (with id, name, and link.),
                                subject, short_subject (shortened with...), time, link, and href. */
                        foreach ($context['latest_posts'] as $post)
                                echo '
                                <tr>
                                        <td align="right" valign="top" nowrap="nowrap">[', $post['board']['link'], ']</td>
                                        <td valign="top">', $post['link'], ' ', $txt[525], ' ', $post['poster']['link'], '</td>
                                        <td align="right" valign="top" nowrap="nowrap">', $post['time'], '</td>
                                </tr>';
                        echo '
                        </table>';

Cerberus doesn't have a Calendar.template of its own..so it just shows the default theme's one. But you can simply copy over that from default theme folder over to cerberus folder and than find the following code bit:
// If this is today, make it a different color and show a border.
echo '
<td class="windowbg" valign="top" style="', $day['is_today'] ? 'height: 96px; border: 2px outset; background-color: #C1E5FF;' : 'height: 100px;', ' padding: 2px;">';

Changing the background-color there will change the background of the blue box.

Thanks Man! That did the trick!  That blue color with the rest of your Cerberus theme was making it next to impossible to read anything that was on the current calendar day.  I changed the current days background color to black, and it's perfect!  Thanks for your help.

Excellent theme.  I'm using it in conjunction with MKportal, and it looks absolutely great.  How would I go about removing the collapsible header?  With the forum incorporated on the main page of my site, it gets a bit bulky.  As a stand alone forum, though, it is a very cool feature.

Thanks!!

Yes, it is a cool graphic, but I would like to be able to just have the HTML box at the top, without the User Info (which is not shrinking in the 1.1beta3 version).

Could this be an option?

Thanks for your great work.

Hi Bloc :)

im new to smf but so far totally impressed with it
and your themes are without a doubt the best ive looked at yet on here.

im currently using Cerberus and it is working great
except the html box, when ever i put anything in there and then click
save at the bottom it resets the theme to default and when i switch back to
Cerberus the html box is empty.

its no biggie but i would like to use it for a clickable image to take members to the gallery

any ideas on what could be wrong ?

Do you use cerberus11 on a smf 1.0.5 installation? Thats what probably causing this. If so - use the normal cerberus archive instead.They are equal in features, but the code is different and will render errors if used on the wrong version of SMF.

No, the smileys will not be affected, and yes, upload all template files(images you can skip), because almost all of them contains new code. And you get file version numbers correct too.

i dont suppose it is possible to add another button somewhere for a Gallery is it ?
i added the code to the html box and it is working fine as it should be but it just looks out of place.

Sure. Buttons you can make over at http://www.tinyportal.net/button-generator/cerberus.php , and for the code you need to copy one of the existing ones in index.template.php - under the function template_menu().

hm, ok..here is how it should be...note that the link on the button is simply index.php?action=gallery, you have to change that to the correct one. Also, this will only show for members...if you want guest to see it, it has to be moved.

I am trying this theme because I like the dark look to it and the nice design, I also love the idea of the htmlbox, I think its great. But, I am trying to add a graphic(picture) stretched across the top the same width as the board, but it causes the whole board to shift to the right, making the user have to scroll the browser sideways.
Tried changing the width of the picture of course, which shrinks it but not the board, I also tried enclosing the picture withen a <tr><td> without good results. Link to the test forum (http://test.allaboutpalestine.com). tester/tester is the test account.
Any suggestions?

I have other themes and was able to get into my forum by changing my theme setting in myphp.......but the theme only shows what the HTML code is linked to if they are using Cerebus.

My question..........where can I get into where I can remove the HTML code I added and re-activate the theme???
I am guessing all I have to do is find where the added code is stored, remove it, and the theme should work again???
All my other themes are fine.....but Cerebus only shows The top banner and the image/box the HTML I added links to....all else is black not buttons, no links......nada???  :o

Can you help me out or do I have to delete the theme and start again ?????

Thanks

If you simply change these lines in index.template.php:

       if(isset($settings['topbar']) && !empty($settings['topbar'])){
               echo '<div class="mybox" style="text-align: ', isset($settings['topbaralign']) ? $settings['topbaralign'] : 'left' ,';">'.$settings['topbar'].'</div>';
       }

to this:

/*
       if(isset($settings['topbar']) && !empty($settings['topbar'])){
               echo '<div class="mybox" style="text-align: ', isset($settings['topbaralign']) ? $settings['topbaralign'] : 'left' ,';">'.$settings['topbar'].'</div>';
       }
*/

then you can get in and change the code. Afyerwards just revert back again to make it work again.

How do you mean? Are you using the correct version of cerberus? if you are using custom buttons - are the code correct?

I need more information to give an answer to that.

I installed the theme obviously correctly yesterday(from the file that was linked in this topic), but the buttons did not work. I must also say I'm a big bloody N00B in this case   ;D

EDIT: Solved problem. Installed german button set.

I know it's probably down on your list a bit, Bloc, since you have more popular themes here... but will you be releasing an RC2 version of Cerberus?

Thanks for the update Bloc!

I have been using the previous version and found the way to turn off the post count shown under the username, unfortunately it doesn't work with your RC2 release. If you could point me in the right direction, I'd appreciate it.

Maybe just remove the counter from the template? In Display.template search for "post count".
Title: Re: [Theme] Cerberus (SMF 1.0.5 - 1.1RC2)
Post by: Grizz on January 15, 2006, 01:24:32 PM
I get no results for that search.

Previously I found;

// Show how many posts they have made.
   echo '
                     ', $txt[26], ': ', $message['member']['posts'], '<br />
                    <br />';

And changed it to this;

// Show how many posts they have made.
// echo '
// ', $txt[26], ': ', $message['member']['posts'], '<br />
// <br />';

This has worked for all versions including the new default theme, but it does not work with your latest release.

Hm..I think this maybe due to the fact that Cerberus does not use Display.template for its own in RC2. Have you modified default theme with it then?
Title: Re: [Theme] Cerberus (SMF 1.0.5 - 1.1RC2)
Post by: Grizz on January 15, 2006, 07:17:39 PM
Yes and the default RC2 theme works with the change I showed in the post above. I have tried setting Cerberus as the default theme and as selectable but either way it still displays the postcount.
Title: Re: [Theme] Cerberus (SMF 1.0.5 - 1.1RC2)
Post by: bloc on January 16, 2006, 03:59:05 AM
Was this an upgrade of Cerberus theme - or a brand new install of the theme?
Title: Re: [Theme] Cerberus (SMF 1.0.5 - 1.1RC2)
Post by: Grizz on January 16, 2006, 02:22:54 PM
It was an upgrade of Cerberus11rc1 and as it is my test setup on my computer it was done by directly overwriting the old files, then re installing it in the SMF admin panel.

Edit.

Your question set me to thinking and gave me the answer. I uninstalled it in the admin panel, deleted the theme, installed a new copy and reinstalled it in the admin panel and now there is no postcount showing.

Thanks for the help!

I really like this theme but after upgrading to 1.1RC2 from 1.0.5 its not working.  Yes I erased the old Cerberus and uploaded the new version but when I click on the "Shrink or Expand the header" square it doesnt work and it just displays "error on page" in the bottom left of my IE.

Anyone?!!?!

I am using SMF 1.1rc2 and Firefox.

I have uploaded Cerberus theme and Techhead.

When I use these themes the horizontal and verticle bars (grey in cerberus) that make the frame are not there.....

If I use IE it all appears.

Any ideas.....

You have a space in the path..that will create an error for the stylesheet, and the background images will not be found by Firefox. You need to change the path to the forum.

Hm, strange..you are really sure you got the Cerberus for TP and SMF 1.1RC2?

In anyways it should not look like that with wrong versions either..maybe check all files are indeed up? I see its working now, but is that the 1.0.7 theme files?

Nope - they were all the right files. It mighta been cause it was a .7-RC2 upgrade instead of a clean RC2 install.

No matter - all works now :)

As admin you can always change the theme by adding this to your URL. index.php?action=forum;theme=1

You're probably getting this error because the theme didn't install properly. Unzip the theme, upload and replace the theme files and see if that helps.
