I had a check and I can't seem to get that error. Which theme are you using?

As for the utf8 problem I'll be uploading an update for it soon. I just need to make sure it is working.

ADDED UTF8 support. Should work fine.

You have to give them the option from your permissions in admin. There are quite a few options there that need to be set.

Hi, Thanks!
I've been waiting for a mod like this. :D

1. Can you make each new blog entry appear in the Forum Info Center?
2. Can you make each member's blog appear in a certain forum board so we won't have to click the username of a member and find out about his blog entries. What I'm talking about is something like this:
(http://finespot.net/images/blogInAForum.gif)

Well that would defeat the purpose of a simple profile blog. Sounds like you want a more detailed forum blog. Do a search seems like someone posted a script for such several months back. ;)
Title: Re: Simple Blog
Post by: Little15 on September 08, 2006, 11:47:38 AM
I think a better way would be to create some sort of recent posts for blogs or something. or something that shows up in members posts when they have posted a blog in the last x days. I'm looking into improvements. but most of the best idea's come from creating SSI mods. and other minor features including an improved archive. I would love to have a calendar which would show dates that blogs were posted by a user. But that might be a bit beyond my capabilities.

You could always use ssi_viewblogs. That will show as many blogs entries as you want. (e.g. ssi_viewblogs(10))

But I'll look into the idea and see what I can come up with.

Just wondering - Is this mod incompatible with the joomla/SMF bridge or something?

I have the latest releases of Joomla and SMF and the joomla/SMF bridge installed.

Ive installed but it has no functionality. When I go to permissions in the admin panel,There are several extra blank lines - so no idea what to select. When I go to user profile - there are no blogging options - just an empty drop down box.

Are you using custom theme when you check the admin CP permissions ? :P

Try switch back to SMF default theme and check ur admin cp permission board again.

Hope that would solve your problem :)

I am actually working on a way to show new blogs on the main page. But I'll see if I can work that out as well.

Also I was wondering if I should put signatures at the bottom of blog entries or leave it off?

I don't think putting it to display on the signatures would be a good idea as it would look super messy when they have a lot of blog articles and everyone have their blogs ... Like text everywhere ;D

What about making it something like vbgamers SMF Traders mod ?

This mod looks great!

I have two questions and I am using SMF 1.1 RC3 by the way.

#1:
I have the profile comments mod (which this one is based on) already installed. Would I have to remove that first or can they work together on the same board. I only hesitate to remove it because people will loose their current comments.

#2:
Does this mod allow the person to receive an email or a pm when someone makes a comment on their blog?

Thanks, I know this is probably a pretty stupid question, but I do go ahead and install the package first then edit the Profile.template.php by hand, correct?

(I'm still alittle new at all of this so I just want to be sure I am doing it right before I screw something up)

That would be the best way. You may find that some of the profile.template parts are already there, so there is no need to add them again.

The profile.template on the new version has only two parts two add

1. the make blog private or public options
2. the blog part itself which is now much smaller than the previous version as I made a function in the profile.php file and it calls on that in the profile.template.

So I would say wait.

It should be ready very soon.

I just tried to install the new version and my Profile.template.php failed. I figured it would because I have changed the code to make the profiles all one column instead of all of the wasted space of having just the avatar in a column all by itself.

Can you tell me what I need to add to Profile.template.php and where?

Thanks!

Thanks!

I had a look and everything seems to be working. What recent blogs displays is dependant on the two settings in Modsettings. Number of days to show and number of blogs. Basically it will show so many blogs per day. try settings both to 10 and see if it works. If you want to see 3 days then set the days to 3 and the number of blogs to 999

On the main index page it is showing double posts.

When there was one new blog it showed it correctly under recent blogs. When there were two new blogs it showed them each twice. Now there are 3 blogs and it is showing each three times:

Do you have any other mods running? And which version of SMF are you using?

I checked and I cannot seem to replicate the problem myself so I can only think something else is causing it.

OK, Try the following file. It's a modified version and since I don't seem to get the error myself I have no idea if it will work or not. But it looks fine as far as I can tell.

Recent Blogs Error (http://www.liquidgarden.org/test/test.zip)

Make sure you uninstall the previous version first. This will not modify the database either.

Yes, you will need to edit the files manually for the theme.

It would most probably be that you have a mod installed already that is causing the problem. You may have to install the modSettings.php manually.

On the main index page it is showing double posts.

When there was one new blog it showed it correctly under recent blogs. When there were two new blogs it showed them each twice. Now there are 3 blogs and it is showing each three times:

i have installed 1.1 rc3 with joomla. the forum default theme is saf but i hav selected the theme for myself as default. the prob is well, check the image first.

(http://www.bagthatpic.com/images006/tn_p1L02214.jpg) (http://www.bagthatpic.com/viewimage6.php?file=p1L02214.png)

as u can see, the left part of the page, the one with the moths options occupies 3/4th of my screen. also, thr is no scroll bar at the bottom for me to scroll left and read the my blogs.

this prob happens with my co-admin as well. [currently we two r the only ones using default theme, so i suppose no1 else can see the blog option]. we tried using IE, Opera, FireFox, - same result.

i really do want this feature. plz do help!!

Are you still getting the repeats with this latest release? I was getting ready to instal it, but I will wait if this new one doesn't fix the problem yet.

PS. A huge Thank-you to anyone who is working on this script. It is a great one. The repeat thing is a minor bug I can certainly live with till it gets fixed. :)

That sounds like it didint' install right.
First it seems the database tables are missing. So you would need to run SimpleBlogInstall.php.

The second error seems like you edited the file a little you need to remove that 10 from "function BlogMain()10"

Hi All, I have sorted this issue out.

in BoardIndex.php

Replace:

$dbresult = db_query("SELECT b.ID_BLOG, b.ID_MEMBER, b.blog, b.subject, b.date, m.realName, b.hide_entry, t.value, t.variable
                FROM {$db_prefix}simple_blog as b, {$db_prefix}members AS m, {$db_prefix}themes AS t
                WHERE date BETWEEN $last AND $now
                AND b.ID_MEMBER = m.ID_MEMBER
                AND variable = 'hide_blog'
                ORDER BY ID_BLOG DESC LIMIT $blog_qty", __FILE__, __LINE__);

With

$dbresult = db_query("SELECT DISTINCT b.ID_BLOG, b.ID_MEMBER, b.blog, b.subject, b.date, m.realName, b.hide_entry, t.value, t.variable
                FROM {$db_prefix}simple_blog as b, {$db_prefix}members AS m, {$db_prefix}themes AS t
                WHERE date BETWEEN $last AND $now
                AND b.ID_MEMBER = m.ID_MEMBER
                AND variable = 'hide_blog'
                ORDER BY ID_BLOG DESC LIMIT $blog_qty", __FILE__, __LINE__);

For those who care, I have added a distinct on the b.ID_BLOG to ensure it only brings out the unique fields, which considering it is the index on the table... a good thing :)

---
Edit: APologies it IS  $dbresult
Code updated

What do you meen? Could you explain it a little bit.

Basically, the query how it was written was bringing back information from the table which is ok, but it didnt care if the data was already in it's results, so you end up with multiple same results due to the limit number.

Select DISTINCT b.BLOG_ID ensures that all the BLOG_IDs that are returned to the browser are unique :)

Not 100% where it's at, but this may be it. I'm only going by the "b.count" error.

                       // counting the offset
                       $offset = ($pageNum - 1) * $rowsPerPage;

       $count = db_query("SELECT b.ID_BLOG, b.ID_MEMBER, b.blog, b.subject, b.date, m.realName, b.hide_entry, b.count
       FROM {$db_prefix}simple_blog AS b
       LEFT JOIN {$db_prefix}members AS m ON (b.ID_MEMBER = m.ID_MEMBER)
       WHERE BLOG_MEMBER_ID = $u"  . ($m ? "
       AND date BETWEEN $first AND $last" : '') . ($id ? "
       AND ID_BLOG = $id" : '') . "
       ORDER BY ID_BLOG DESC", __FILE__, __LINE__);

       $context['count_blog_page'] = mysql_num_rows($count);

       $dbresult = db_query("SELECT b.ID_BLOG, b.ID_MEMBER, b.blog, b.subject, b.date, m.realName, b.hide_entry, b.count
($id ? "

I have a question. Is there anyway of having a link to show when people have added new blogs?

Right now, the only way is when members go to your profile and scroll right down to the bottom. Most people don't look right at the bottom of a profile.

great stuff this blog, i got it working on a testforum with 1.1rc3 , It looks beautifull in the forum
http://www.flyingpighostels.com/forum/index.php?action=viewblog;u=9;id=6
but there needs still to be worked on, i got/found some bugs which i can't find the answers for.

Possible bugs i found.
-As an admin i was not able to delete a comment of another nor change it.
-If you click on the month october it does not show anything. Archive
-If you click on View All Blog Entriesmy theme got messed up (if you have a theme with sidebar header and footer)
- repeting entries of the same blog in the recent blog function.

but overall this blog has potential, I could not find a working demo for this mod so feel free to use my testboard for testing and looking. If there is a demo somewhere please let me know. I don;t want to hurt someones feelings :P

I defenitely gonna use this mod if its a bit more stable :D

its also great that u can put it everywhere in your site with ssi.

Hi,

I am also getting the multiple blogs on the info section of my forum.

I am using the most recent version of the Blog, with SMF RC3.

If anyone can help on how to stop this, that would be great.

Thanks

Joe

Hi All, I have sorted this issue out.

in BoardIndex.php

Replace:

$dbresult = db_query("SELECT b.ID_BLOG, b.ID_MEMBER, b.blog, b.subject, b.date, m.realName, b.hide_entry, t.value, t.variable
                FROM {$db_prefix}simple_blog as b, {$db_prefix}members AS m, {$db_prefix}themes AS t
                WHERE date BETWEEN $last AND $now
                AND b.ID_MEMBER = m.ID_MEMBER
                AND variable = 'hide_blog'
                ORDER BY ID_BLOG DESC LIMIT $blog_qty", __FILE__, __LINE__);

With

$dbresult = db_query("SELECT DISTINCT b.ID_BLOG, b.ID_MEMBER, b.blog, b.subject, b.date, m.realName, b.hide_entry, t.value, t.variable
                FROM {$db_prefix}simple_blog as b, {$db_prefix}members AS m, {$db_prefix}themes AS t
                WHERE date BETWEEN $last AND $now
                AND b.ID_MEMBER = m.ID_MEMBER
                AND variable = 'hide_blog'
                ORDER BY ID_BLOG DESC LIMIT $blog_qty", __FILE__, __LINE__);

For those who care, I have added a distinct on the b.ID_BLOG to ensure it only brings out the unique fields, which considering it is the index on the table... a good thing :)

---
Edit: APologies it IS  $dbresult
Code updated

It would be better if there is another selection of blog viewing restriction for Forum Member Only, since the current one is only Private (none can see it) and Publlic (everyone can see it).

It's even better if there is a permission for Allow Guests Comments, i.e. Guests can post comments at blogs but not in the forum if they are not allowed to do so.

When viewing blog, if there is any entries, it would mess up the custom template that i used.

I need some help with customizing this mod. I want to put the "recent blogs" list right on top of my board index. I've already modified index.template.php and pasted the code section from SimpleBlogView.template.php there, but it's only working on the index page, not everywhere else on the forum.

Can anyone assist me? Do I need to change database queries?

You could do that with SSI

The easiest way is to make a just put a header and footer around your forum so you do not have to change much with each upgrade/date.

in that header file you can put
<?php ssi_viewblogs(10); ?> somewhere.

Thanks maime, I already sorted out the problem by "recreating" the Simple Blog mod and adding a starting page with a list of all recent blog entries.

You can see the result here: http://www.nullpunktseite.de/forum/index.php?action=viewblog

I've also altered the linktree and added a "viewing blog" action to the "who's online" page.

The only problem I'm having with this mod is that the page view counter isn't updating. Any help on this? It's always stuck at zero for me.

I can't give you the details since I didn't document every single step, but what I basically did was to remove the error message the mod gives you if you have no user id/blog id specified in the action. I added some database queries to the source (from recent blog display and a new one for the latest comments) and put them on that page.

Yeah, I also fixed the counter, the code was somehow wrong in the original mod. Everything works fine now, although I have to say that the entire mod would need a redesign. No offense to the author, but the code is a mess of redundant functions, loops and subroutines.

I've also added a link to the blog display on the board index ("Blogs"), defined the action for the "Who's online display" and cleaned the editor dialogues (add/edit new entry, add/edit new comment). I removed the blog display in the user profiles and only enabled a link to the blog below the avatar if the user has written at least one entry.

Im not sure about repackaging it as your own mod but I guess you could package it as simpleblog2 or such and publish it (that is allowed under the GPL license, although the author has not specified any license). It would be nice to ask the author first though although he is not to be seen.. His ID shows up as Guest..

Simple Blog is itself based on Profile comments by vbgamer.

In any case it wont be a problem just to post the modified files as an attachment here :)

Title: Bug resolution?..
Post by: spykerc8 on November 26, 2006, 03:08:37 PM
Hi men,

Just watched the code since i got the same error as the others...
And since it's a boring bug, tried to do some sql tests to fix the error, and i found that, it's working for me atm, if someone could try and say us..

In : BoardIndex.php, SimpleBlog.php

Search for (Original code) :

$dbresult = db_query("SELECT b.ID_BLOG, b.ID_MEMBER, b.blog, b.subject, b.date, m.realName, b.hide_entry, t.value, t.variable

An replace with :

$dbresult = db_query("SELECT DISTINCT b.ID_BLOG, b.ID_MEMBER, b.blog, b.subject, b.date, m.realName, b.hide_entry, t.variable

A brief explanation : I tried to see what could make the code bug, I thought about an SQL conflict between tables. I tried to make some changes in the request, and finally, i got i work in deleting : 't.value' field request.
I'm not sure of what's about in SimpleBlog, but i seems to work, and so...Hope i didn't break something, if vbgamer45 could say me, ty.
(Demo at : GTAOnline.fr/forums/ or here (http://www.gtaonline.fr/forums/index.php?action=viewblog;u=2))

Please try it and say us,

ty,

Spykerc8 - GTAOnline.fr - GTAOnline.eu

PS : sry for my english...:)

EDIT :

Ho btw, also fixed the page views problem, was really easy indeed :
In SimpleBlog.php :
Search :
// Counter

//Get the profile id
$id = (int) @$_REQUEST['id'];

      if(!empty($id) && !$ID_MEMBER == $u && !$ID_MEMBER == 0)
      {
      db_query("UPDATE {$db_prefix}simple_blog SET count = count + 1 WHERE ID_BLOG = $id LIMIT 1", __FILE__, __LINE__);
      }

Replace with :

$id = (int) @$_REQUEST['id'];
      db_query("UPDATE {$db_prefix}simple_blog SET count = count + 1 WHERE ID_BLOG = $id", __FILE__, __LINE__);

The original code was certainly done for security issues, but i think it won't affect security...Don't know..:p

Great mod, installed it on 1.1 ( with few mods ) and it works almost perfectly ;)

The reason for almost part is a miner annoying posting form, it shows all BBC even the one I disabled.
You can use it but it does not work.

It would be nice if you could fix it and also add preview option.

Otherwise I LOVE IT.

Recent blogs on index does not work

Edit blog entries works properly, so does deleting blog entries, and comments.
Edit any blog should also give permission to edit any comments (or add it as seperate permission)

Adding ;version_emulate=1.1 to the end of the package manager's url will Emulate you having 1.1 Final and not 1.1.1 so you can uninstall.

I need your help:

Table 'site_forum.simple_blog' doesn't exist
File: /home/site/public_html/v3/Sources/Load.php(1734) : eval()'d code

what I have missed?

Sounds like the tables have not been created you need to look at the simpleblog sql and then run the queries manually though phpmyadmin.

Can you include some small feature requests?
If yes then please consider the ones below:
- An index page for blogs showing peoples blogs (much like in felblog)
- Ability to use all bbcodes whch are also usable in the forum (with even the mods for newer bbcodes installed like streaming, spoiler tags etc)
- Ability to be integrated with TP (so that side panels can be hidden in blog view)
- Blog links in Post Profile
- Rating for blogs

Thats all i can think of

You probably have other packages installed that have modified those files so that this package can not find the proper code it needs to modify. You can follow the instructions in the .xml file that comes packed in the .zip file of the mod. Try uninstalling a few packages and see if this one will install, then re-install the others. Only uninstall packages after you have backed up and and as long as they don't fail when uninstalling.

I was uninstalling and reinstalling the mod by hand and it looks ok, but something is wrong with the Enable recent blogs filed, although I click on it it keeps unselecting after I press save.
What can it be?
:-[

I had this problem too and found that I had to add the following line TWICE in the ModSettings.php file

<file name="$sourcedir/ModSettings.php">
<operation>
<search position="before"><![CDATA['karma' => 'ModifyKarmaSettings',]]></search>
<add><![CDATA['blog' => 'ModifyBlogSettings',]]></add>
</operation>

it needs to be added around line 115 for function ModifyFeatureSettings and ALSO around line 189 under the function ModifyFeatureSettings2. Just added it under karma as per the code from the xml file above.

I have read through this thread and solved most of the niggling little problems I have had such as repeating entries in the recent blogs list and the views etc but I still have a couple of little problems

PROBLEM 1 .... my 'recent blogs' list does not appear to show the latest blogs ??

I added 2 blogs to my profile - one yesterday, one today, and I know at least 1 other user has also added a blog today but the only one showing up in the list is my entry from yesterday .... any ideas ?

The hosting service is located in Western USA (GMT -8), most users are in the UK (GMT) and I am in eastern Canada (GMT -5). The forum offset is set to +8 to accomodate the users and my profile offset is set to -5 to make the time display correctly for me at 5 hours behind the forum offset. I figure this may have something to do with it as the $now and $last values seem to make use of the offset time - but my knowledge ends there so not sure how to fix it !!!

PROBLEM 2 .... When posting new blog entry, my forum breaks out of its wrapper

We are using the SMF forum wrapped inside Joomla (1.0.11) and have used Wolverine's bridge to integrate the site. When viewing someone's blog all is good, but when posting a new entry it defaults to the unwrapped view - anyone have any ideas ?

Simple Blog = v1.3 (installed manually as it wouldnt install automatically - too many other mods)
SMF = 1.1RC3

Ad far as adding a link for the blog on my main index page;
My conclusion is that the developers never finished configuring

The page is there, but not finished: Would be nice if they would have

Everything works on mine except a blog without a comment pulls in the side of the forum, breaking the theme's right frame.

Once someone comments on a blog, then the page looks normal. Not sure if this has something to do with my Tiny Portal install and my right blocks. ???

Hi,

   Am I in the right forum?

   If any of you are using simple blog, you've noticed
no link on the main menu for it, but there is a page
named: http://YOURWEBSITE/forum/index.php?action=blog
with someone's name on it, never finished.

  This page needs to ask for login/registration if not logged,
and then to take you to your freakin blog page. Does anyone
know how to do this? I did a temporary thing, where I'm
sending them to the profile page, which has a link to blog,
but that only works if members are logged, and so it's truly
sad that someone hasn't fixed that page.

It's a better idea to recreate this mod from scratch than to support it in its current form.

I've been dealing with the code base for a few months now, fixing all the bugs and adding new features (such as a blog overview page with recent entries and comments), but most of the code is so "ugly" that I won't release my changes to the public.

I know a lot of people asked me to do so, but I don't think this mod has any future. The best would be to just abandon it alltogether and start developing a journal/blog mod from scratch.

I'll see what I can come up with, but don't expect any results. You'll see my changes to this mod once I get around to releasing anything, though.

See here: http://www.nullpunktseite.de/forum/index.php?action=viewblog

It's in German, but the left column shows recent blog entries while the right one lists recently commented entries.

Ignore the error and do the changes manually. In Display.template.php, the mod only adds a link to your blog to the user's postbit.

Actually, the mod should work fine without changing Display.template.php. You only need to modify that template to have a user's blog shown below their avatar or wherever you want it to show up.

You people need to understand that this mod is no longer being actively developed, so you will need to make these changes and bugfixes yourself.

I agree. I went through the whole source code to clean, fix and add things. I came across some potentially dangerous security issues, so if you like to keep your SMF clean and safe, don't use this mod!

why you didnt report then this mod as unsafe? it is serious question if it is released eith security issues and someone from smf support team should check that as soon as possible!!!!!

Yeah, WHY is it unsafe? I have removed it for now until we get an answer and maybe a solution. Its the ONLY integrated blog mod we have currently...
