it updates the BoardIndex.template.php file in the default folder.
many (if not most) themes use that file.

i use theme defblack as my current theme and the fresh install
worked for me.

My board as an example (http://www.stucknut.com/jimrome)

ok i managed to work out that it wasnt showing because the theme i use (cerberus) doesnt use the same file as the mod does, so i tried it in the default theme and it worked, but it was showing the mod 3 times ??? so i uninstalled the mod and deleted the files, but it is still showing twice ??? its not a major issue because i still intend to use (cerberus) but can i remove the remainding 2?

1.1.1 would be good.

it is a FAR more accurate way of tracking how many log in per day without having to log in at 11-50 pm.

pritty please if you could update it for us lesser mortals to install.

OK. Here's the error message:

QuoteError in Package Installation
At least one error was encountered during a test installation of this package. It is strongly recommended that you do not continue with installation unless you know what you are doing, and have made a backup very recently. This error may be caused by a conflict between the package you're trying to install and another package you have already installed, an error in the package, a package which requires another package that you don't have installed yet, or a package designed for another version of SMF.

And these are the files in question:
Quote1. Execute Modification ./Sources/BoardIndex.php Test failed
2. Execute Modification ./Themes/default/BoardIndex.template.php Test failed

Is this compatible with SMF 1.1.3?
Title: Re: Users Active in Last 24 Hours
Post by: TrueSatan on June 26, 2007, 05:20:10 AM
Firstly the mod needs no changes to the SMF version compatibility as none is listed in its package-info.xml Rider (above) was incorrectly changing the version of the mod not the compatibility versioning.

The installation problems reported by ham1299 are due to coding in the mod (whitespace issues) not version incompatibiity as such.

I'll try to resolve the whitespace issues and post an updated version that will be compatible with newer SMF versions.

EDIT New version below compatible with all versions of SMF from 1.0.8 to 1.1.3 and probably to 1.1.99 though not tested beyond 1.1.3 for obvious reasons.

Title: Re: Users Active in Last 24 Hours

This mod affects only three files:

Source/BoardIndex.php
BoardIndex.template.php (in your theme directory)
index.english.php (in your theme's language directory)

It makes no changes to Profile.template.php so the parse error cannot be due to this mod.

To fox your error you need to look at whatever other mods you may have added that do edit the file in question...you may need to replace the file with a fresh copy from the SMF installation package and edit it to add in any mods you may use that need to alter it.

BTW standard advice is to do a backup (of files and database) prior to installing or uninstalling any mods or themes.

I am using this mod, which I really like. My only question is that sometimes it says "26 User" instead of "26 Users" for the number. Sometimes it has it correct, with the "s" on there, but sometimes it doesn't. Any idea how to fix that? ???
Title: Re: Users Active in Last 24 Hours
Post by: TrueSatan on August 05, 2007, 05:28:19 AM
@ ham1299

Would you mind doing a screenshot of the error when it occurs please?

The only mention of "user" as opposed to "users" in the code is this:

', $context['num_users_online_last24'], ' ', $context['num_users_online'] == 1 ? $txt['user'] : $txt['users'], '
That line looks at the number of users and if it is only 1 changes the output to "1 user" rather than "1 users"...other than that there is no other use of "user".

This has me doing a lot of head scratching...and I was quite bald enough already without it...can you see if it is happening with different numbers of users online or only at 23?
Title: Re: Users Active in Last 24 Hours
Post by: ham1299 on August 05, 2007, 09:57:30 PM
I'm pretty sure I've seen it with other numbers, but I'll pay closer attention. (Sorry about the head scratching! LOL)
Title: Re: Users Active in Last 24 Hours
Post by: TrueSatan on August 05, 2007, 10:08:39 PM
I was wondering about the 23 because that is at the rollover to another day but if it's happening with other numbers, and particularly if it's unpredictable, then I don't think it's a problem with this mod...could be a conflict with another mod...perhaps a hosting issue...you could try the mod on a test board and put in some fake users...I've beeing doing just that to try to replicate your problem but can't get it to happen. Unpredictability of it occuring would make me think that another mod was probably not to blame.

If the problem were a more important one I'd suggest that you rebuilt your forum using new files and reapplied mods and themes but it's not worth doing, IMHO, for such a minor issue.
Title: Re: Users Active in Last 24 Hours
Post by: ham1299 on August 05, 2007, 10:29:42 PM
Of course, now it's saying "23 Users" LOL

It's really not a big deal - and certainly not worth rebuilding the site or anything. Just a minor annoyance. Perhaps it is related to the host! ??? I'm not sure. But, I will report back if I see it with any numbers other than 23, just to give you all the facts! ;)
Title: Re: Users Active in Last 24 Hours
Post by: TrueSatan on August 06, 2007, 04:16:05 AM
Thanks...the unpredictability alone shouts that it isn't this mod at fault as, obviously, the mod doesn't change each time it is used.
Title: Re: Users Active in Last 24 Hours
Post by: ham1299 on August 06, 2007, 12:07:34 PM
Must be my server then, maybe? ??? Oh, and it's not just 23. A little while ago, it said "24 User" - and a few minutes later "24 Users"! It's really nothing more than an annoyance! LOL
Title: Re: Users Active in Last 24 Hours
Post by: TrueSatan on August 06, 2007, 12:16:44 PM
I'd tend towards thinking it was a server issue rather than some error in the files of your forum...the only way to prove it would be to rebuild the files...not really that hard a task BTW.
Title: Re: Users Active in Last 24 Hours
Post by: ham1299 on August 06, 2007, 08:12:53 PM
How do I do that?
Title: Re: Users Active in Last 24 Hours
Post by: TrueSatan on August 06, 2007, 08:56:35 PM
You would begin by getting the latest SMF installation package...look at the files and directories in it...the only ones not to replace would be your attachments directory, Settings.php and Settings_bak.php in your forum root. Backup all your existing files so you can always restore them if things go wrong.

Replace all but the above mentioned files and directory...note delete the old directories as that way you'll flush everything old out and replace with new from the package.

Once done reinstall all your mods and themes...start with the "biggest" mods first.

Not too hard is it?
Title: Re: Users Active in Last 24 Hours
Post by: ham1299 on August 07, 2007, 10:24:17 PM
Ummm....I just might have to pass on that! LOL While it's not all that complex, it's more trouble than it's worth. The "user" instead of "users" doesn't bother me all THAT much. And I bet most people don't even notice!
Title: Re: Users Active in Last 24 Hours
Post by: TrueSatan on August 08, 2007, 06:15:29 AM
Fair enough...mind you I do find it useful to do the above from time to time (usually when SMF comes out with a new version) as a "spring clean".

Your error is a variant on the most common error of all those reported on these pages...it tells you that another mod you have installed has already edited the file in question and that you thus need to do a manual installation of this mod. Please read:

Hey satan
Something is very very confusiing me .... from this site

http://docs.simplemachines.org/index.php?topic=402.msg531#msg531

is says

after - Find the code and add the specified code before it (same as <add before>...</add before>)
before - Find the code and add the specified code after it (same as <add after>...</add after>)

this thing is really confusing me ........

but in this site ... http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=34526.0

it says something that make sence
. After the <search for> tag, you will find one of these:
<add after>...</add after> , which add a block of code after the code found.
<add before>...</add before> , which add a block of code before the code found.
<replace>...</replace> , which replace a block of code with the code found.

so the thing is i dun kno which is the riht one ......

anywayz

here is the .xml file for dis mod

it says

- <file name="$sourcedir/BoardIndex.php" error="fatal">
- <operation error="fatal">
- <search position="after" regexp="false" whitespace="exact">
- // Track most online statistics?

  </search>

There are two different ways a package can contain its file edit details...they can be in a .xml file or in a .mod file and each of them is written in a different way...the advice in topic 34526.0 applies to .mod files and the advice in topic 402 applies to .xml files. This particular mod uses a .xml file and that is SMF's preferred form of package though some mods still use the .mod files.

Thus you need to follow the advice from topic 402 in this case as the mod uses a .xml file

I note that you appear not to be using the updated mod I posted...the one you are using won't do an automatic installation which is why I posted the update.

Package install files updated and read me updated

is this the one u talking about ?

All that error is telling you is that another mod you have installed has already edited the file in question so you will need to do a manual installation of the mod.

Title: Re: Users Active in Last 24 Hours
Post by: TrueSatan on August 21, 2007, 08:36:43 AM
First off I try to keep as far away from theme support as I possibly can...don't use them myself...and Dilber MC in particular as it seems to have more problems installing mods into it than most.

This mod, like most mods (almost all in fact) offers automatic installation into the SMF Default theme...anything more than that you'll have to sort out for yourself with the links I gave you and, possibly, the theme support topic.

If a theme, any theme, doesn't have a particular file in it then the file from the SMF Default theme will be used...though I've seen a few reports where members have found that copying a missing file to the theme makes it work even though the file was in the SMF Default theme and working properly there.

Please try the mod in the SMF Default theme and get it working there then worry about custom themes.

You will have to edit every file that a mod, any mod, edits if that file is in multiple themes...in this case you should edit the SMF Default Theme BoardIndex.template.php as well as the one in your custom theme.

If you would be specific I might be able to answer...

Go back to the SMF Default theme...get the mod working properly in that then if you want to use another theme either sort it out with the links I gave you earlier or ask on the topic for the theme if the theme is difficult to modify.

Yes, install it on the default theme and get it working there before you do any work on any other theme.

Next either fix the custom theme you are using yourself or ask for help on the Dilber MC theme topic.

It doesn't appear that you consistently followed the advice given in:

http://docs.simplemachines.org/index.php?topic=402.msg531#msg531 (http://docs.simplemachines.org/index.php?topic=402.msg531#msg531)

Goodness only knows what you used as an editor for the file but it doesn't seem likely to ever give a working file as an end result.

Wikipedia lists PHP editors:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_PHP_editors (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_PHP_editors)

Please pick one you like and use it in future.

If you are truly unable to edit custom themes for yourself please don't use them if you wish to also use mods on your forum.

Please re-read my last posting...the bit in bold!

I've given you the links you need to get information on how to do this for yourself, I've even given you a link to information on which editors to use.

If you can't manage to make custom themes work then please don't use them...you now have the mod working in the default theme and I'm not going to get involved in editing custom themes.

Is what this MOD functions with SMF 1.1.3?
Does there exist in French?
Function it if I do not use the template by defect

Thank you

If you use the version I posted to this forum then, yes, it does work with SMF 1.1.3...no there is not a French language file for it, no it doesn't automatically install into custom themes...few mods do...mods are only required to work with the SMF Default theme.

What is necessary to add in the theme that I use to make function the MOD?

Title: Re: Users Active in Last 24 Hours

If you look at index.english.php the mod adds to that the following:

$txt['users_online_last24'] = 'Users Active in Last 24 Hours';

If you would translate
QuoteUsers Active in Last 24 Hours
for me, and post it here, I will make a new package that includes a French part so that the package would also alter index.french.php...you can also alter that file for yourself adding the line above but with the French translation in place. I think that is the only translation needed...unless you know otherwise.

But After Reading Each Post I Figured Out That This Mod Won't Work For My Version.

I'm Using Powered by SMF 1.1.4 | SMF © 2006, Simple Machines LLC

So My New Question Is Will There Be A New Working Mod That Will Work With My 1.1.4 Version?

Please Let Me Know

Thanks

Title: Re: Users Active in Last 24 Hours
Post by: TrueSatan on November 05, 2007, 09:51:33 PM
The version I posted previously works without problems in SMF 1.1.4 but, like almost all mods, it installs only into the SMF default theme and only into an English language forum...manual installation into any other theme is needed...please see previous postings for details, as regards translation please also see previous postings for details.

Mod updated to reflect its working in SMF 1.1.4 and has been tested...it will work in any 1.1.x SMF forum.

Additional derivative mods I've made at the request of other members also updated and supplied below...users active last 48 hours and users active last hour.

All three mods support SMF 1.1.x provisos as per the original one.

I have tried 5 times to install this on SNF 1.1.4 and 4 times it has not worked.

I have no other Mods installed and am using the default skin/theme.

I've replaced the BoardIndex.php, BoardIndex.template.php, index.english.php
with fresh and unaltered copies. I receive the below infromation prior to installation but it tells me it installed correctly after but nothing show up.

I am using the file usersActiveLast24(B).zip

Any suggestions?

Please use the search function as you would have found that this question has been asked and answered previously.

Reasons for this have nothing to do with this mod...they can range from safe mode being enabled on your server when it should not be to need for you to make a "temp" directory CHMOD to 777 or 775 in your packages directory to need to use the Cleanup Permissions in the SMF Package Manager to set all your files to CHMOD 777 or 775 (777 or 775 depending upon the peculiarities of your hosting.)

Please search for "modification parse error".

Is there a way for this mod to include hidden users?

At least have a count of the hidden users logged in that day?
It would be nice to also include the number of guests, but I understand that's not the original purpose of this mod.

Thanks in advance. :)

For a variety of reasons I installed and then needed to uninstall this package.

While the forum says the uninstall was successful a portion of the package still shows up at the bottom of the forum and anytime someone enters the forum it generates a page of errors.

How do I eliminate this problem? I don't think I can simply overwrite the BoardIndex.template.php because I have 2 other mods installed.

Screen shots are below of the error being generated as well as the remnants that display on the forum.

Elliatt, I suggest using the mod parser (http://www.smfhacks.com/packageparser/package.php). You can then upload the mod and select the relevant options (1.1.4 and uninstall etc)

Later you can check each of the files and remove any code that wasn't properly cleaned.

I think that should solve your problem, but admittedly I am not an expert. ;)

If the version you used was the latest one I posted to this topic it is compatible with SMF 1.1.4 and if your files have already been altered by other mods then many mods won't install automatically...in such cases you need to do a manual install.

For details of manual installations please read:

I will give this mod another try. I used the one you listed as an attachment.

I tried putting this mod you have listed with the one that has a (B) through the mod parser and i get this error

parseArchive(): No package-info.xml in this mod! Is it corrupted?

The package I provided is fine but the Package Parsers both seem to be having problems and the one on SMF Helper is out of action right now too so you'll have to use the links I gave you for manual installation advice or wait until the Package Parsers have been fixed.

Installed,
I get two erros in my log
8: Undefined index: users_online_last24
File: /home/XXX/public_html/Themes/default/BoardIndex.template.php (main sub template - eval?)
Line: 435

8: Undefined index: users_online_last24
File: /home/XXX/public_html/Themes/default/BoardIndex.template.php (main sub template - eval?)
Line: 431

on top of this "Users logged in in the last 24 hours" its not showing, at least the wording part is not. It shows the users. take a look
http://www.webmasterwidget.com

Update -
When you logged out, you can see the wording users in the last 24 hours, but when you are logged in all you see is the users.. is that how its suppose to work.
Title: Re: Users Active in Last 24 Hours
Post by: TrueSatan on December 27, 2007, 01:57:58 PM
No, that's not how it's supposed to work and you seem to either have preexisting problems on your forum or to have a conflict with another mod...I've not seen these errors in any previous install and, unfortunately, when you see "eval" as part of an error it is telling you that the error isn't in the file specified but in another file that has caused the specified file to fail to work...so it's a problem to track down the actual problem.

Unfortunately you may need to forego use of this mod or to rebuild your forum from a fresh set of initial files to solve this issue...you could do this on a test forum adding this mod first then seeing if/when it failed so as to pinpoint a conflict while you add other mods one at a time.
Title: Re: Users Active in Last 24 Hours

Would you mind doing a screenshot of the error when it occurs please?

', $context['num_users_online_last24'], ' ', $context['num_users_online'] == 1 ? $txt['user'] : $txt['users'], '
That line looks at the number of users and if it is only 1 changes the output to "1 user" rather than "1 users"...other than that there is no other use of "user".

Hi,

Should this not be

note the addition of the '_last24' in the second instance of $context['num_users_online_last24']

I've taken the liberty of updating all three packages:

- Fix for where it would show "User" when it should be showing plural "Users"

- Fix so it uses the same title header background and text as the other sections of the Info Center, instead of the category background

- Text changed from "Users Active in Last 24 Hours" to "Users Online in the Last 24 Hours" (or Hour and 48 Hours, depending on which version you use)

- Total number of users changed from underlined to bold

- Version number increased to 1.1 to reflect these changes

!! Please make sure to fully uninstall any versions of this mod you already have before installing this package !!

Package install files updated and read me updated

thank you soo much this works perfect !

Hi again! With your help, everyone, I'm learning more than ever and am 're-creating' my forum (started 2003). It's great to start to 'comprehend' a bit of what's going on, and to be able to do many things on my own.

My question tonight is...will there be, or is there already, a version of this mod that will work on 1.1.10? I have it in use now on a forum using 1.1.8, and I love it...but I can't get it to install on my 1.1.10-run forum and work.

I installed it with the package manager, even though it doesn't say that it's been tested with 1.1.10, and no, it didn't work, as I expected.

Any way to get this mod ready to work on my forum? Thank you very much!

Mayor

You need to edit the package-info.xml file from the zip. Try this (replace everything in the current file):

<package-info xmlns="http://www.simplemachines.org/xml/package-info" xmlns:smf="http://www.simplemachines.org/">

  <version>1.0</version>
  <type>modification</type>
  <install for="1.0.8 - 1.1.10">
   <readme type="file">readme.txt</readme>
   <modification>install.xml</modification>
  </install>
  <uninstall for="1.0.8 - 1.1.10">
   <modification reverse="true">install.xml</modification>
  </uninstall>
</package-info>

All I've done is add install for and uninstall for details...I hope I got them in the right place.

Thanks, Blinker. It's a little 'confusing' to me, but not terribly...I think! I'm 'assuming' that I take what you wrote here and paste it over the 'package-info.xml file' in the mod's .zip before I download/upload it to my forum with my package manager...am I thinking right, here?

If so, can you tell me what you mean by 'All I've done is add install for and uninstall for details.' Not sure what that means, or if I even need to know what it means.

If I'm on the right track, if you or someone who knows this stuff can confirm that, Blinker, I'll do this manana (well, later today after I get some more sleep!). Damn, this stuff is a bit 'addicting.' Better for ya than drugs, I guess, and at least it's not illegal! Don't get a lot of sleep, though, as I lay there thinking about different things I want to do with it all!

Anyway, thanks again, Blinker...I'll let y'all know how it goes and if I am able to install/use this great mod.

Hey Mayor

You are correct, open the zip, open the package-info file, replace it's content with what I posted, zip it up again and then upload that to your server.

Regarding what I added, most package-info files tell SMF which version(s) are OK to install and uninstall the package on.

This mod did not have that information in so for e.g. I added "<install for="1.0.8 - 1.1.10">" to tell it to install on all versions between 1.0.8 (when it was first released) and 1.1.10 (the current version).

Well, we gave 'er a shot, Blinker...I'm pretty comfortable that I did everything right. Not 'totally' sure I re-zipped it after I was done...but pretty sure it was. It was still on my desktop and opened with the list of three items in it...and allowed itself to be uploaded to the server...but when I went to 'apply mod,' I got a blank page in my browser with the URL showing http://www.newtcity.com/yabbse/index.php?action=packages;sa=install;package=usersActiveLast24.zip;sesc=4bedbb4dc799a0bc00c655f2caa3d832

Perhaps the changes you added were in the wrong place? I only say this because you already said you 'hoped' they were...I wouldn't have a clue. At least all this stuff doesn't look as 'scary' as it has in the past...that's something, for sure!

I'll wait until I hear from you before doing anything. Cheers!

Mayor

I've edited my earlier post, try again mate. There was a redundant <install> in there.

BTW this mod does work, I know cos I use it myself. Having said that I originally installed on 1.1.6 or 7 I think and it's been along for the ride ever since.

I know this topic is long gone from support, just didn't see this questioned throughout the topic, and seemed worth asking.

How do you change the list from alphabetical, to time from when they were on.

It looks like this line from the ./Sources/BoardIndex.php

IF(mem.ID_GROUP = 0, mem.ID_POST_GROUP, mem.ID_GROUP)) WHERE lastLogin > '".$time_24hours_ago."' ORDER BY realName ASC", __FILE__, __LINE__);

Would I just change it to something like this?

IF(mem.ID_GROUP = 0, mem.ID_POST_GROUP, mem.ID_GROUP)) WHERE lastLogin > '".$time_24hours_ago."' ORDER BY Date DSC", __FILE__, __LINE__);

Thanx for any help.

Thanx for suggesting, bud. It seems like it would work. But got back an error. Which id the like where the phrase realName changed to lastLogin.

You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 'DSC' at line 5
File: /home/brawldom/public_html/Sources/BoardIndex.php
Line: 444

I just use that box to help me determine my member to staff ratio at differnet parts of the day. But the MOD listing them in alphabetical order helps me none :D

for the error

Find

ORDER BY lastLogin DSC

Replace

ORDER BY lastLogin DESC

Is DESC no DSC xDD, sorry... ;D

This won't help you with spammers :S

You can try to make use of this mod by using Version Emulate Dropdown (http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=2113) to bypass the version check in the package manager though.

Thanks for the quick reply. Any suggestions then for how to stop spammers in version 1.1.11? We're newbies so we didn't even understand what you said about how we could use the other modification. Thanks!
Title: Re: Users Active in Last 24 Hours
Post by: Arantor on April 28, 2010, 06:46:50 PM
OK to answer your second question first, the package manager where you add modifications does a check on the modification before installing it, to check the versions the package says it supports.

A mod even if it works on 1.1.11 may not tell the package manager that, so the mod I linked overrides it.

As for your first question, there's a whole category of mods for spam prevention on the mod site... under Anti Spam Mods.

If you have any problems please consider using either the 1.x Support board or the 1.x Concerns board for Charter Members, you will likely get a better response there than in this mod-specific thread.

Since you're a charter member, they should appear in the main board listing for you, in the Charter Members Only category.
