The -NEW- indicator next to posts was a mod I added to my board that was very well received by the members as it easily identifies the which posts have not be read.
As the "NEW" indicator is on the topic list I am sure it wouldn't be that difficult to add?
This would be a very good addition for SMF
can be made as a mod
why not as default. I think this function could be useful for all users.
because if the user does the sensible thing and selects the "view last unread post link" it is obvious which posts are read and unread?
Not all users click the 'view unread messages' link though. I find it quite handy, even though most of the time in my forum, I know what the new messages are when I look at them :D
I find it quite annoying.

I think it's quite useful.
Please have a look at the image how it could be.
You can easily see the new post, because of the NEW symbol.
Naturally it could be added at a later stage as an option, but personally would prefer it to be in the general release from the outset.
If there were an option in board settings it could easily be enabled / disabled.
I'm pretty sure this could easily be done with the template system, and if not I will make it so it can be.
However, I still think this is horribly annoying. Especially if it HAS to be red. I would bludger my eyes out.

Just make it bold. I use this on my large site, and the members ABSOLUTELY love it, as do I, since I often forget to click on the "new" icon.
Yeah bold black font would be excellent
Indeed, it doesn't have to be red, in fact it could even be the "NEW" icon as used on the board index..?
I've now made sure it's perfectly themable.

cool :D

why not use this image in an other color to mark new posts, just as in phpBB?
