Thanks for the catch. I have updated it to 1.1 which fixes this and uses some built in variables instead of setting them again..

I have a thread with 135 pages. This mod works up until page 67. On page 68 and after, clicking on singlepost link brings an empty post.  On another thread no longer than 7 pages, the same error happens starting on page 6

Hi, it works erratically on multipage threads. The more pages, the more likey it won't work.
Is there a fix ?
Title: Re: View Single Post
Post by: SleePy on March 12, 2007, 06:30:05 PM
This seems to be a deal with MySQL. Not liking what I did to the query to do this.

Give this one a test. Uninstall the old one first and install this one. This is a beta as I didn't test it well but this should work.

Uses new checks that make it so less modification to the default SMF code is needed.

Edit.. Should probably attach the file :P

It says:

the packages you're trying to install is either invalid or corrupt

It's crazy people don't see the use of this mod. With this mod, you can point to any single post on your forum and it will show all by itself on the page. I need this. .

the new version is corrupt. Can you test if first and see if you can install it ?

This version refuses to install.

I did test the install twice on my computers test sites. Some reason when you are getting the mod it is becoming corrupt. Did you try another browser?
I reattached it again as .zip which should work (though I didn't test this one).

what doesn't work?
Did you view the topic and then click on it? There was change on how it handles the action and uses a different variable (msg=) instead.
New ones kind of look like this:

Title: Re: View Single Post

What does not work ?
We no longer get a single post on a page like the other one.

Even the link you provide
http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=127050;msg=1009558
does not produce a single post on a page like the last version did.

Oh please, I hate to sound childish, but this mod, and the streaming one, is the two most important ones in my view.

But it doesn't work.... snif...

This is the weird thing that happen when I click to get a single post. All the message number become the same as the one that gets clicked. Thankfully, this all goes back to normal after, but that's weird no ?  And you get no single post... incidentally... just a whole page of posts...

I will have to look more on this. I developed this using 1.1.2 and not 1.1 RC3. So there may be a bug or something that is making it not work correctly with RC3. Though you should upgrade as soon as possible due to the security fixes since RC3. Nor was it tested for joomla bridge compatibility. Though it should function fine on the bridge.

This is the wrong mod but it is due to It adding the text outside the ?> in Modifications.english.php in /Themes/default/languages
Open it up and find and move ?> to the very end and have nothing after it not even spaces or returns.

You should ensure that all those mods are updated for 1.1 Final at least if not 1.1.2
Then Create a test site with 1.1 RC3 and duplicate your sites database (so you got 2 forums really) and make sure your new test site is pointing to it. upgrade it and then the mods. If everything goes ok. You can either just make that forums or upgrade the other one as well. ;)
Title: Re: View Single Post
Post by: ragots on March 17, 2007, 11:28:16 AM
Oh, mmm sounds easy. Just the part about duplicating my database I don't get.
I don't quite know how to do that. I do that in my phpmyadmin ?

Why don't I just create a new forum in 1.1.2
then duplicate my database (granted i find how to do that)
then installed the mods that are upgraded for 1.1.2
(most of them will be at one point I guess)
then use that as my new forum...
and scrap the 1.1.RC3 one...

is that a good route ?
Title: Re: View Single Post
Post by: SleePy on March 17, 2007, 12:18:41 PM
You can't do that. Some changes to the database where slightly made between 1.1 RC3 and 1.1 Final. So you need to run upgrade.php to ensure that the database is upgraded.
But I suggest duplicating your database anyways if it is a bigger database. Imagine trying to upload a 50 mb (just guessing your database size) database backup file :o
So a duplicate database would mean a quicker fix if something went wrong  ;)

Title: Re: View Single Post
Post by: SleePy on March 18, 2007, 06:16:14 PM
Well I have to make 1.1 RC3 tests. Something might be different with it.
But it works fine with 1.1.2
Check it out on my test forum:
http://sleepy.lordsofclantribe.com/index.php?port=Demo;topic=1.msg6#new

It operates how it should on my test site and live site. So I am thinking this is a 1.1 RC3 bug.
Though I only guarantee my mods will work with the latest stable release as that is what they are developed on. I developed this mod on 1.1 RC3 but 2.0 was developed on 1.1.2

Edit-
Quick test on 1.1 RC3 it works. Do you got any other mods installed that edit the Display.php or Display.template.php?

If you don't just uninstall the mod then upload fresh files of those. At least the Display.php if you can as this is where all the action is handled for the mod.
Title: Re: View Single Post

which version of your Single Post mod did you test that worked fine on 1.1RC3 ?

version 1.1 or version 2.0 ?
Your version 2.0 that's attached on page 1 of this topic ?

As for the question about Display.php and Display.template.php
I don't know what to answer since I have so many mods.

I attached both files so you can have a quick glance.

Title: Re: View Single Post
Post by: SleePy on March 19, 2007, 05:00:23 PM
Those 2 files don't even contain my mod. Are you sure it installed?

I quickly added my mod into it. I don't have your Modifications.egnlish.php so make sure to add in that file this line:
$txt['topic-start'] = 'Topic Start';

Then Use these 2 files.
Title: Re: View Single Post
Post by: ragots on March 19, 2007, 10:38:04 PM
Finally, it worked.

I installed it manually like you instructed and it worked.
As you can see here
http://love.mixbeat.com/hype/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=238

I tested it with a 136 pages long topic and it worked !!!

Do I still need to revert back to my original
Display.php and Display.template.php
and install it as a mod ?

If so, do I use your version 1.1 or the version 2.0 of Single Post ?

Title: Re: View Single Post
Post by: SleePy on March 19, 2007, 10:44:43 PM
Well I basically installed the mod when i edited those 2 files  :P

So you can edit the installed.list in Packages Folder and add it in so it appears to be installed:

View Single Post|^|SinglePost2.0Beta.zip|^|SleePy:SinglePost|^|2.0

Thanks for the test. Good to know that It does work well :) I came up with a better Idea on how to handle it than the way I was. Plus it makes it DE compatible with the new feature

You would need to add a link there.

If you are using SMF 2.0, you can directly link to it via http://site.com/forum/index.php?msg=###, where ### is the message id.

By default it creates a link to it on each post's subject. Although it currently links to it with the subject in tact.

This mod is not working correctly for me on 2.0 beta 4: the replies work like they should if you click on the reply number, but there is no reply number for the topic start and clicking on the topic start title jumps the page to that post, but it doesn't hide the replies. It is correctly installed on the default theme. Any ideas?

Edit: I think I know what's wrong. I'm not using the English language so it probably didn't modify a necessary file during installation of the mod.

Do you have a link to your site?

Sorry for the very late reply: I solved the problem by manually adding some langauge strings to my Dutch language file. The board isn't online yet.

I was wondering if you could help me with something else: I'm trying to build an SSI function which can link to a single post, as enabled by your mod. The problem is, how can I determine which page the singe post is on from SSI? For example, "http://www.cinema-extreme.com/forum/index.php?topic=1242.60;msg=79969" (I made the part I'm talking about bold).

As a work in progress, my URL in my SSI function looks like this:

<a href="'.$scripturl.'?topic='.$post['topic'].'.'.$post['start'].';msg='.$post['id'].'">' . $post['subject'] . '</a>

I would have to know how to populate the $post['start'] variable. I don't understand how SMF calculates this number and if it's even possible to do it with SSI. I'm adjusting the standard ssi_queryPosts function for this. Any pointers? Basically what I'm trying to do is have SSI generate the same kind of URL that View Single Post generates.
Title: Re: View Single Post

The board you linked to is using SMF 1.1.5. Please, update it to at least 1.1.8. There has been security fixes since then.

It would be hard to determine from there the logic needed to know what page it is on.
The link you gave though would only show a single message still, regardless of if you have the page number or not.

I wish that were the case, but it's not unfortunately. Without the page number, the link jumps to the first post in the thread.

Regarding 1.1.5, I'll get to updating it eventually. Thanks for your concern.
Title: Re: View Single Post
Post by: SleePy on March 10, 2009, 05:31:20 PM
The page number is generated based of how many replies in the topic there are divided by how many posts per a page to display.
Such as if there was 100 replies, and we displayed 20 posts per page. There would be 5 pages (100 / 20). SMF uses the actual number of replies though instead of a page number. Such as if we where viewing page 3, we would be at .60 for the start (20 X 3 = 60).

How to determine what page you are on is a bit harder. You could do it by doing a count of all posts in that topic that are below that message id you have. Even if the start isn't perfect (such as 67), SMF should be able to sort it out itself. You could as well round it down if you want a perfect match.

Well technically it should be there, there is just no link to it.

If you add to the end of a single post url ";action=printpage" then it should display just that single post.

Are you using the latest version of this mod?
Which is currently 2.0.5.

It didn't work quite well in older versions. I got it up to work as it should though in newer versions.

Edit,

The only way I get this to fail is if I change that setting while viewing a multi-page post. This is because of the start in SMF is wrong for the query to know what messages to grab.

Any chance for an update to be compatible with SMF 1.1.10?

I'd like to install this mod but it's "not compatible". If I have time I might look at the 1.1.9 install diffs and see if I can make it work, but I'd much rather use the built-in SMF mod installer.

Thanks,

Title: Re: View Single Post
Post by: SleePy on August 24, 2009, 09:48:19 PM
This mod will work with 1.1.10.  Due to a bug in SMF, the version detection the mod supports doesn't work correctly.
Just add this to the end of your url in package manager  ;version_emulate=1.1.9
It now will install for you :)
Title: Re: View Single Post
Post by: LoopinFool on August 25, 2009, 12:24:23 AM
Thank you, but please forgive an SMF newbie here...

I uploaded the .tgz file to install the mod. I don't see a way to just enter a URL to install it from.
For some reason, I get "unable to connect to the server" when I use the browse link in the package manager to look at the mod site.

Edit: I figured out the url by modifying the [ Delete ] link in the package manager to include "install", "version_emulate", and my session id.
The error I get is "The package you are trying to download or install is either corrupt or not compatible with this version of SMF."
I have uploaded SinglePost2.0.5.tgz and set version_emulate to 1.1.9. I got to SMF version 1.1.10 by applying their update patch to 1.1.9.
I also recently installed the Aeva mod before this. Could that interfere? That's the only other mod on this system.

Thanks,
- LoopinFool

Try to download the package with another browser.  As well try to upload it via FTP to your packages folder.  Then give this a try.
No, that's not it. I downloaded from the mods site various ways, uploaded to my server various ways, and verified everything using SHA1.
I'm using the url:
myforums_url/index.php?action=packages;sa=install;package=SinglePost2.0.5.tgz;version_emulate=1.1.9;sesc=xxxxxxxxxxx

I always get the same error. I may try doing a manual install, but I like the idea of being able to use the package manager to, well, manage the installed packages!

Thanks for the help,
- LoopinFool

when I tried to install this package through my admin panel

I am getting this

The package manager currently allows only these file types: zip, tgz, tar.gz

So how to upload .tgz packages.

LoopinFool,
I honestly don't know what to say if you have tried multiple ways to download/upload the file (thus making sure it isn't a problem with a browser/ftp client).

narayanan,
Either your browser or your operating system has appended a extra extension (as it may not liked the .tgz).  Using FTP, go to your packages folder and ensure for this package that the extension is .tgz.  You could also rename it to .tag.gz as well.

Quote from: An Error Has Occurred!
Package upload failed due to the following error:
"Although the package was downloaded to the server it appears to be empty. Please check the Packages directory, and the "temp" sub-directory are both writable. If you continue to experience this problem you should try extracting the package on your PC and uploading the extracted files into a subdirectory in your Packages directory and try again. For example, if the package was called shout.tar.gz you should:
1) Download the package to your local PC and extract it into files.
2) Using an FTP client create a new directory in your "Packages" folder, in this example you may call it "shout".
3) Upload all the files from the extracted package to this directory.
4) Go back to the package manager browse page and the package will be automatically found by SMF."

That's what I get whenever I try to install through package manager..  When I try to open it in WinRAR, it says it can't be opened..

Try the package again, I attached a new one.  I changed the way I package mods and a few of them got corrupted during testing (and I didn't realize they didn't update afterward).

Can you give me more details about the error?  Can you attach the file that it is reporting the error in?

I've tried to install this Mod with package Manager.

QuoteThe package you are trying to download or install is either corrupt or not compatible with this version of SMF.

PS: My Version is SMF 1.1.11

Berno,

Due to a bug in SMFs version detecting, it is mismatching the version check and returning a bad result.  Simply add ;version_emulate=1.1.9 to the end of your package manager url to emulate a older version of SMF.  Which then the package should present the test install screen.

Great mod, thanks a lot! I really like that I can now link to a specific message directly, and that you can see the reply number :D

One small remark:

QuoteVersion 2.0
+ No longer user p as input. msg used

However, in the link tree 'p' was still used. So I have changed it to 'msg' on my Forum. :)

Also, I think that Modifications.english_utf8.php should be Modifications.english-utf8.php, but I'm not sure about that.

is there any update version release for smf RC5? i really need it.

This should still work with RC5, I just haven't had time to update the mod to reflect this though.  You can use version emulation (lower right of package manage page) and emulate to a older version and this mod should install cleanly.

I was trying to install the view single post mod on a custom theme but I got a Test Failed message. How can I fix this?

It's still giving me the option to install the mod but is it safe for me to install it even with the error? Will I get any security problems with my forum if I install it?

This is the error message it gave me.

Replace ./Themes/core/Display.template.php Test failed

Code Find

<div class="smalltext">&#171; <strong>', !empty($message['counter']) ? $txt['reply_noun'] . ' #' . $message['counter'] : '', ' ', $txt['on'], ':</strong> ', $message['time'], ' &#187;</div>

Code: (Replace)

<div class="smalltext">&#171; <b>', isset($context['sl-singlepost']) ? ($context['sl-singlepost'] == 0 ? $txt['topic-start'] : $txt['reply_noun'] . ' #' . $context['sl-singlepost']) : ($message['counter'] == 0 ? '<a href="' . $scripturl . '?topic=' . $context['current_topic'] . '.' . $message['start'] . ';msg=' . $message['id'] . '">' . $txt['topic-start'] . '</a>' : '<a href="' . $scripturl . '?topic=' . $context['current_topic'] . '.' . $message['start'] . ';msg=' . $message['id'] . '">' . $txt['reply_noun'] . ' #' . $message['counter'] . '</a>') ,':</b> ', $message['time'], ' &#187;</div>

I installed this mod after adjusting the code in the display.template.php and it worked fine, as expected. However, instead of showing the post number in the navigation section, it tells you the message number of the post compared to all posts on the forum. Is there a way to change this?

It's not that big of a deal if you can't, but I'd like to know how to control that. If this mod doesn't affect the navigation section, I'll leave it alone.
