Title: Christmas
Post by: Harro on December 24, 2006, 04:56:44 PM
Link to the theme (http://themes.simplemachines.org/index.php?lemma=178)
(https://www.simplemachines.org/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fthemes.simplemachines.org%2Findex.php%2Faction%2Cdownload%2Flemma%2C178%2Fimage%2Cthumb&hash=b4ba4d9cb8d7490286fcc3a1cefa53979c015c05)

This is my first theme I created.
It's a red christmas themed theme, with candy cane bars on the sides.
A live demo can be seen HERE (http://dev.forumaffiliates.net/index.php)

Since this is my first theme I'd appreciate any feedback on it!

You're Already signed up: The Site is Open but Registration is Disabled.

ALL Anyone has to do (is SUPPOSED To Do) is Show up and Collect their presents! I have been on the Internet for 8 Years and Have a LOT of Bookmarks to free things I need to post - Hundreds and Thousands of Posts in fact.

I don't need help (Well, can you clone me 3 Times ?? ?  ;) )

As a Matter of Fact I want to remove the Registration Link from my Pages so no one Tries ....

But - THANK You for the Cool (And Timely) theme.  Oh, and I can (Eventually) tweak colors and send the template back to you ....

Am I going to have to hack something major to remove the Registration Links?

??? ??? ??? ???

(I Know, I know: it goes against EVERYTHING Forums Stand for ... But It DOES Allow me to Quickly Search for presents based on keywords typed in the posts. It's set up as a collection of Read Only Searchable Links and it was the Most Expedient way I thought of - seeing as it was already installed ... )

Nutty Idea, HUH?  I'm GIVING my Best toys AWAY - this Site will grow from humble origins ....

So you don't want to make it possible that people can actually discuss these things or share their own?
Indeed a bit weird that you use a forum for it.
But it's definatly very original :D

No: no Comments or "Help" in finding software is Required.

I Suppose I Shouldn't have used a Forum as my Search Engine tool - But I made your Template Fit my (Admittedly odd) needs EXACTLY and It's good for the Next Decade or so ....

Hey: but feel free to set YOUR Forum up for Discussion and Public posts and "Borrow" all the Presents from "Software Santa" ....

If the Idea is REALLY Good Enough to Steal .....

You know: MOST of these advanced Projects I'm Posting (Like GIMP (http://gimp.org) for instance) about Already have a Discussion Group and Don't need another one:  http://gug.sunsite.dk/ .

Go take a Look!

I need the Color behind the Text in the "News Fader" changed to Light red: It's Unreadable now ...

Open BoardIndx.template.php and search for:
// Prepare all the javascript settings.
echo '
<div id="smfFadeScroller" style="width: 90%; padding: 2px;">

Changed that to:
// Prepare all the javascript settings.
echo '
<div id="smfFadeScroller" style="width: 90%; padding: 2px;color:#FF3333;">

My aplogies, think I misread your post.
You want to change the background colour to light red, not the font colours?
Edit I gave you changes the font colour.

Yes: the Background color of the News fader should be light red because Black Text doesn't Show up on Dark Green Background.

I guess Quoted Text doesn't show those color changes I entered this Morning ...

:D  Thanks for your Support in fine tuning my Crazy Project.

ALL I want to do is Give away several Thousand Cool Games and Applications ....

It'll take me a Few more Months to Build up all the Listings though ...

I'm Glad you designed that Theme: you're Good!  THANK YOU!

Look for this then:
<td valign="middle" align="center" style="height: 60px;">';

// Prepare all the javascript settings.
echo '
<div id="smfFadeScroller" style="width: 90%; padding: 2px;color:#FF3333;">

And replace it with this:
<td valign="middle" align="center" style="height: 60px;background-color:#be5456">';

// Prepare all the javascript settings.
echo '
<div id="smfFadeScroller" style="width: 90%; padding: 2px;">

Let me know if this is better or not :)

And seems like you already worked pretty hard to fill it with content!
Looks good! :)

Excellent! That's PERFECT!  This is MUCH better: I think I'm done "Tweaking" this Set-up! This board just needs several thousands more new posts, that's all: that's my 'day job' anyways so I'll get back to it!

Not Bad AT All for your First Template: I think you hit it out of the Park!

It's EXACTLY what I needed in a Search engine :D :D to Organize Data Cells with !!!

I'm working on the Site, populating it, today I should have over 200 Presents (Probably many more) by this evening ...

(I Know: It's Totally Insane for me to use a Forum for this Purpose. But it was Handy: and I'm going to be setting SMF up for an Existing online community in a few months anyways. Now I've got the Experience to Set them up with this Forum AS A Forum! If I make 'screw-ups' in the First few Months it'll be on MY Domain & I won't be wrecking their data .... )

thanks to you for the cool theme and all the help fine tuning it - much appreciated!

(I'll probably bump this topic to the top every 3 months so everyone can gasp at how much it has grown up .... :D )

Only 8 presents added this morning - I'd better hurry!

8) 8) 8) :)

I've been using your theme non-stop since I opened: Thank you! It is EXACTLY what I needed ... you created it 3 weeks before I needed it too!

You may register now: I have a Second SMF forum, a public one, with the SMF Arcade add-on, that is open to public registration. Stop by play games and comment on the Presents and post links to cool freeware, if you want, at Santa's Helpers (http://sageseeds.info/smf/index.php?action=register) forum.

And Thank you for the Cool Theme. It goes very well with the intentions of my non-commercial site. (Nothing is for sale there.)

Enjoy your Free Presents: and Merry Christmas!

Title: Christmas Theme works with SMF 1.1.5
Post by: Sea Mac on August 09, 2008, 12:34:39 AM
I wanted to thank you again for this Christmas theme.

8)

It has served me faithfully for over 19 months so far!

This theme works with SMF 1.1.5 even though the last version you list it working with is 1.1.4 . I chose to replace one theme graphic (santa.gif), and I had to change the News Fader Background to light red and the News Fader Font to Black (as you have shown how above), but those three minor changes were all I needed. Your (slightly modified) theme has been in continous use since New Years Day in 2007 and has been seen by thousands of guests so far!

There is a decent number { > 1,275 items} of REALLY Cool FREE gifts there now - just about something for everyone! And that 'North Pole Santa' is providing me with FREE Hosting: so I don't care that I haven't made a penny on the site. Neither of us 'Santas' come down your Chimney (or teleport in through your Modem) with our hands out looking for donations!

Great Work! By creating and donating EXACTLY the theme I would have envisioned: YOU are Santa TOO, in your own way! (and Your Name is on every page in the site, in the page footer ... )

Will you update this to work with SMF 2.0 eventually?

With nearly 22,000 hits: your theme has been seen by quite a few people!

If you are running SMF 1.1.10 you need to install the Dutch Language files from http://download.simplemachines.org/?languages;lang=dutch (http://download.simplemachines.org/?languages;lang=dutch) in your forum
and use one of the standard themes that come with SMF.

Then all the menus/warnings/alerts/tabs will read OK in Dutch. You must set Dutch as the default forum language in your admin panel.

Sorry I couldn't help you more ....  :'(

Thank you for this theme! I had to reinstall my forum software yesterday so I re-downloaded your theme.

The url links in the news fader were the same color as the news fader background. The news fader background on the file I downloaded was dark green ....

I remembered you had posted theme modification instructions for me in this thread so I came back to review them.

My "Forum" has grown to 2,600 "Presents" and nearly 30,000 visitors have seen your theme on my site in the last 40 months. Software Santa http://softwaresanta.com is a free treasure map to the internet! 2,600 PLUS FREE Items! No Ads! No Malware!

Your Theme IS Compatible with SMF 1.1.11 - and so it carries on for 40 more months!

Is there any chance you'll update it for SMF 2 FINAL when it is released?

You did great work and it has served me well: Thank You!

Title: Christmas Theme still working with SMF 1.1.14
Post by: Sea Mac on June 29, 2011, 10:49:55 AM
Thank You again for this theme.

With over 3,000 downloads: it is in the top 10 of holiday themes (quite popular)!

Your theme IS still compatible with SMF 1.1.14 - and so it has been in service for
52 months on my site. The only "Bug" to report with this theme, as it stands, is that links in the news fader area match the fader background and are invisible. I made the fader background light red on my site.
[/color]
Is there any chance you'll update this theme to work with SMF 2 FINAL - now that 2.0 has gone Gold - before Christmas 2011? I'll be reluctant to lose the theme I've already used for 4 1/2 years .... 5 years this coming Christmas.

You did great work and this theme has served me well:
over 59,000 visitors have seen your theme just from my domain alone! (2.2 million page views (http://softwaresanta.com/smf/index.php?action=stats): about 1,300 a day)

Thank You!

Any hope this Theme will ever be updated to work with SMF 2.0.2?  O:)

I used it until I switched up to the SMF 2 forum - for about 5 years! It WAS the most popular Christmas Theme - at one time ....
I AM asking because I'd still like to be using it. But, I'm probably this Theme's only remaining fan ....  :-X
