Title: Adverts - phpAdsNew
Post by: Tester99 on January 09, 2007, 07:34:14 AM
Hello

I am new to this forum business, and I like the look of Simple Machines' forum.  However, I have a couple of questions regarding advertising.  I want to have a lot of space and options to advertise on my forum, so do you know whether

1. phpAdsNew (which i understand to be quite a good ad program) runs on the forum?
2. Is the mod available for the forum quite flexible (ie, can the program rotate the content of ads on a particular page?)
3. Is Simple Machines' forum a recommended forum program to use for advertising - if it isn't, please could you advise as to which one is the best (all things considered)?

One more question - unfortunately I am newbie to this, and have no knowledge of code etc.  Is that a big drawback for someone like me?  Do I need to be knowledgable about computer code to play with the features when administering/setting up a forum?

Thanks very much for your help!  Much appreciated.
Regards

I believe phpadsnew is still used here although I am not 100% sure on that. Maybe whoever integrated it here would respond with some additional information.

When adding advertising code you are generally editing the index.template of the theme you are using. This is true for adding for example Google/Yahoo ad code etc.

Is it hard or do you need to know php or HTML? Well it would certainly help but there is a mod that would help you that requires no coding knowledge.

There is the ad management mod for example: http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=255

For further help on adding code to your files try this thread:

Hi Redone

Thanks for your response.

I don't know any php or HTML I'm afraid.  If the mod can be used by simply operating drop-down menus and selecting options, cutting and pasting ads into the mod, then that would be fine.  It's the actual code to design the ad itself which I would have problems with.

Normally the ad code itself is provided by Google or your advertising provider. The ad management mod actually does the placement of the ads within your forum depending on where you want it to display it. For example, within posts or certain boards etc.

Go ahead and install it and see if it meets what your looking for.
