Hello you need to chmod these files to 777

# attachments
# avatars
# Packages
# Packages/installed.list
# Smileys
# Themes
# agreement.txt
# Settings.php
# Settings_bak.ph

You can usualy do this via your FTP program or in some cases your control panel that your hosting company provides.

Sure no problem allthough the SMF staff says you realy shouldnt give details to normal members. However, if you have posted this problem before and had no replies then i can do it for you. I will need FTP access to do do it though.

I think you contact your host.

He shouldnt realy need to contact his host to chmod files unless maybe he is on a free host.

Hi,
I have installed it but is giving out a database error.

http://guitarman.quotaless.com/guitarman_forum/

Everything i have done seems to be correct and i have used repair_settings.php to make sure the paths are correct but because the database error message is not actualy telling me what the error is i am a bit lost. Normaly if theres a database error then it usualy tells you what the problem eg:
Database error SMF can not connect to the database and this tells you the problem. It could be number a of reasons so hopefully one of the SMF staff will come along to sort it out. i will continue to look to find any problems but this is the way i normaly install my own forum.

Bud you should have left it alone for atleast 24 hrs untill smf staff could check it. I had it installed and now it saying smf cant connect to the database. Anyway that means your database setting are wrong.

Sorry m8 i should have said, i was told about a new hosting site, so gave it a try, and it installed the smf forum with no problems first time around, so looks like it was just the other hosting site at fault, no what we was doing, or the smf install. i'm still going to see if the other host can inprove on what they offer, as it does give you a wide choice of database installs, and loads of space. thanks again for helping me m8, and keep intouch.  8)

No problem m8 ;) Glad you got it sorted. The problem with free host is maybe there version of msql was wrong. Its allways worth paying a little extra if your serious about your website. I personaly would only use a free host to just test things out but i have my own dedicated server so i can test allday long if need be.

The best of luck with you new forum.
