Do you have shell access to your site?

If not you can always populate the tables manually. It takes a while, but you can open your .sql file in a text editor, then paste the sql queries into phpmyadmin for your forum's database.

shell access is a command promt that allows your to manage your account. When you say you can't zip the sql file, do you mean that the file can't be compressed or that phpmyadmin won't accept it?

I really know absolutely nothing about this shell thing man. And also the phpmyadmin wont accept the zip and gzip stuff.

What error does phpmyadmin give you?

When you backed up your database, did you do a comple backup with the database structure?

ok. Can you go back and also check the box that says table structure too? I made the mistake of not checking it before and I would get errors when I imported the database. The problem was the data was good, but phpmyadmin couldn't find  where to put it (the structure). That might be your problem.

Don´t use phpmyadmin. I think it´s stupid with that limit.

Use myqsl administrator, it´s free, it has secure SSH remote login.

Is it shared hosting?

Ask your host, call them, mail.

I´ve got this answer with Google.

I got an official answer from the godaddy support:

Unfortunately we do not allow remote MySQL access with our hosting accounts.

This includes external connections to our MySQL databases.

This also includes outgoing connections to another database.

I would not stay with that host but it´s your decision.

Install Wamp server, import your database/s and then export them by tables.

It takes some time, not much, but that configuration would be usefull to you in future too.

Maybe someone has more simple solution, my brain is not working well right now.

try googling a program called bigdump... it allows you to import databases larger than the single-file upload size.

as far as hosts go... Hosts and Hosting (http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?board=4.0)

WOW!  :o

Doing a whois for both domains shows that they are owned by 2 different people. Stealing someone's database and starting a competing site is a very dirty thing to do. Getting people from this forum to unknowingly help you is even lower.

Emgage and other forum owners, let this be a lesson to you. Don't trust anyone. There is no need to have an administrator on a forum besides yourself (unless it's your partner). That is what the Global Moderator Group is for. Even with that group, make sure you have your permissions set properly. Create a Recycle Bin board to catch all deletions. Check your moderation log. Sure you can share your power, but there must be checks and balances.

There is no need for that type of language here.

Lets keep this on topic, respect others, and dont make accusations.

Please let us know if you were able to get Bigdump to work for you, or if you are still having problems.

You will have to contact your host and see what their terms are.

Thank you!
