Hi

     I hate to post this but I haven't found the answer, My visual Verification image is not showing up in registration. I change the font directory to 777 from 755 (suggested in another post) Any help would be appreciated

EDIT: I check to see if the sound would play and it does not.

I tried accessing the image directly got
HTTP Error 408 / 409 - Not acceptable / Resource conflict

Just want to double check on this setting. Go to Admin->Registration->Settings and make sure Complexity of visual verification image: is not set to Disabled.

It is disabled right now I can enable it if you would like but it doesnt allow anyone to register.

Are you using the default theme or a custom one?

Try getting a new install package here (http://www.simplemachines.org/download/) and extract the themes/default/fonts folder and upload that to overwrite what you have on your webhost. See if that fixes the verification image issue.

I have the Default running, I will extract the Fonts off that file. Hopefully it works. What does the CHMOD need to be on the Fonts directory and the Files.

They may all be CHMOD'ed to 777. 755 should work also :)

Yeah didnt get anywhere with the fresh uplaod of the fonts directory.  :(

Did the image verification feature ever work at all? It might be a webhost issue and you will have to contact them to inquire about it to make sure.

no it never did I will check with them on it definately. I didnt even think of that, good idea :)

Yeah, right now I'm thinking that a majority of users who can't get this resolved even after doing a fresh install, it's their webhost. Especially those that never got it to work in the first place ;)

Well vb said at the start he got this error:
HTTP Error 408 / 409 - Not acceptable / Resource conflict

Which is a problem with the server not accepting it from the sounds of it.
Have you asked your host? I can't remember the reason for 408/409 errors at the moment but I am thinking possibly something to do with the server.

I shoyuld have posted this sooner. Something like Mod Security was setup  and that is why that error showed. They Disabled it and the picture just showed as the red x box

That right there is the problem - it has to do with a security measure that we have in place called mod_security.  It blocks common hacking-related URLs to protect people.  I will disable this for your account, if you want, and we can see if this works.

This might not be of much help, but try using the .htaccess file as mentioned here (http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=34270.0).

Its been a minute since I posted on this, but I have since then created another website using the same server. That one works and my original site still doesnt, it did for a day or so after the upgrade to 1.1.3.

I checked the CHMod and all at 755
I copied the working sites font folder to the non working sites folder - nothin changed

I have been reading through the forums and have not seen anything.

When I spoke with the host, they are not sure what it is.

So unfortunately I am at square one with this once again.

Sorry for double posting,

Though I have found that I have a mod installed that is preventing the image from showing. I am going to narrow down which mod it is and I will edit this post with which one(s) it is.

So I have to triple post, cause I found the root cause of the issue. I have Tiny Portal Installed and it ispreventing the image verification.

What file(s) applys to the image verification?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated

I am currently testing the current release of TP on my site running 1.1.3.

It works just fine so TP is not the reason why your visual verification is not working correctly. Normally these problems are related to either permissions or a problem with the GD module on your server.

    I know that TP is the issue because I did extensive trouleshooting with it. I have TP installed on my Mikes-arcade.com site with no issue. Its a weird issue.

I saw you resolved it over at TP. For those that find this post later on out of the box SMF works just fine with TP and does not break the verification in any way.

Unfortunaltly it hasnt been resolved. Its something to do with the language files. If my server settings are on English everything looks and works fine, though if I close the browser and reopen the site. The txt for the mods are gone and I have no image verification, then when I reset the settings to english it comes back.

So I know it has something to do with the UTF8 and regular english, but I dont know what.

Have the same problem.

Did have the verification image showing, was working fine & now nothing.

Have uninstalled all mods loaded since then but no change.
Have turned off the visual verification until I an resolve it.

When I check in the adminstrator and got the problem line from firefox :


The image "http://pulsarcommunity.org/index.php?action=verificationcode;rand=456204f91d78035faf45cb389c915572;type=1" cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.

How to fix this problem? I am having same problem. Setting forum to English language fixes this but I don't want that.

hi, i found some nice "bug" from this problem. If you set languange to "indonesian-utf8" (possibly happen in other languages than ENGLISH), the verification was not displayed. (I try to install a "new" one and try to change languange)...

I have two SMF (1.1.7) installations on the same server.

One using the default English, the other using English-UTF8,Chinese-UTF8 and Italian-UTF8.

The 'plain' language installation is working perfectly, on the UTF-8 installation I'am facing the same issue  :-[

BTW: the only mod installed is Are You Human? 1.3 (http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=999).

Is there any fix to this problem?

Damn I also have this problem, how to fix it, the above solution I didn't understand :S

I had a same issue with my 1.1.7 and 1.1.8 smf board. My solution was simple. Download full install package form simplemachine and delete your Themes/default/fonts directory and upload new one from full install package that your just downloaded.

Content on my font dir was some how corrupted.
