is there a way to add a small picture to the subject of a thread?

Could you explain what you're wanting to do?

If you want to change a bunch of topics (that is, "en mass" or "in bulk") you may need to use something like phpMyAdmin.  When editing a post, you can change the message icon.

To add additional message icons, you can install Grudge's mod to do so ;).

oh i see what you are saying,

what i am trying to do is add a preview picture next to the post so people know what the topic is about.
