Not enough info provided but try to search for valign="top" from BoardIndex.template.php and change it to valign="middle".

index.template.php displays only the top and the bottom of the page, basically.

Search in BoardIndex.template.php and MessageIndex.template.php for on.gif, on2.gif and off.gif and you'll find the lines that need to be changed.

ah thanks now it works! i had to change the middle thing on the board index template from the default skin ;)
