Title: Are New Posts Sent to All Members
Post by: mstrange on February 24, 2008, 09:01:26 PM
Greetings,

I just installed SLF and am configuring it but cannot determine the following:

I want any new posts to be mailed to all members as well. I cannot determine if this is a standard feature or an option.

Thank you for your time,

Dr. Strangelove

PS -- DEVs -- thank you for a great software tool!

Welcome to SMF, mstrange.

By default new posts are not mailed to members. Members can turn on notifications or individual boards or topics by pressing notify. They can also choose to do this automatically by going to:

Profile > Notifications > Turn notification on when you post or reply to a topic.

Additionally SMF 2.0 will have a daily digest feature.

Hi, If I turn on board notification will it give me just new topics or will it also give me replies? Thanks.

I thought it was going to be for new replies also, but from what I see there, it says new topics. You can give it a quick test by subscribing to the whole board. Make a new post or a few of them. You should get emails for them. Now try replying to them using a test account to see if you get another email regarding the new replies.

Hi, thanks I tried that and it appears to be just new topics and not replies to existing topics.

Correct.

As for new posts, there's no feature in SMF to subscribe to all topics (existing and new) at once, due to the fact that this can be a huge performance drain, especially on forums that have a lot of new posts.
