Hi,
I thought, the theme used on this forum here would be implemented in SMF 2. Am I wrong? Aren't there going to be any new themes delivered with SMF 2 by default?

This theme is just for this forum. New theme will be in later version (1.1 got in RC3 IIRC), but remember that I don't know anything about it, this is just guess.
Next Beta should get more semantic versions of current themes. (as said in announce topic)
All right, thank you!
SMF2.0 should ship with a new theme. Because the current is getting quite old.
Birger :)
I think we do need a new theme.
tbh I dont think there is going to be new colors/layout, ect... I just think a semantic version of the current default. Its not that big of a deal in my eyes because many people dont use the default theme and this will be a jump start for theme designers.
There are plans for an entirely new default theme for 2.0. But a semantic version of the current 1.1 default is being made first.
Step one is getting the old template updated to be more semantic using newer HTML techniques. And that will take a bit of time

Like full CSS 2.1 and real XHTML 1.0?

That is highly unlikely as XHTML is not supported by major browsers. I assume it is likely to be XHTML served as text/html instead, just as phpBB3 does.
Yeah I know. It seems that XHTML is a used standard as no one really follows.
Birger :)
We already use XHTML Transitional valid HTML.
valid is one thing, semantic is another
I started working on a 100% recode of the SMF HTML a few months ago, but gave up as the number of templates drove me insane.
Good luck to the development team :) There's certainly a lot of work to be done to recode all that HTML spaghetti which is rammed into the current default theme.
Is there a way to have the theme installed in THIS forum?
No. We've said this many times, currently this theme is exclusive to this forum. If it'll be made the official default theme for 2.0 is to be decided...
when will this decision be made?
What decision is there to make? This site has always used a theme specific to this site. I doubt this exact theme will be released, but likely a theme reminiscent of it. There is no timeframe on a decision, our priorities are elsewhere right now.
Keep in mind that the current default theme, "core", was not put into SMF until SMF 1.1 RC2, and that 2.0 is in beta. I'm not saying it couldn't be earlier, but right now theres no RUSH to roll out a new theme. Right now the focus on the design side is recoding "core" to generate proper HTML by today's standards, rather than the standards existing in late 2005.
We understand people's desire for a new theme, but right now stabilizing the core of the system is key, rather than polishing. To me, focusing on a new theme right now would be like waxing a car than painting over it with a can of spray paint, when really, the paint should be carefully stripped, a new base layer put on, that base layer secured with another coat, then have the final layers of paint and wax put on.
