Title: Minor BBC for signature
Post by: brianjw on April 03, 2008, 09:11:05 PM
I think there should be a VERY MINOR CHANGE to the bbc and add a bbc tag called [status] which would let people know whether you're online or not, so you could say in your signature, "Hi! I am currently [status]."
and there could be things like, [status=online][/status] and [status=offline][/status].
These will allow a different message for each status (online, offline); for example: "Hi! I am currently [status]. [status=online]So you can PM me for quick support on any problem.[/status][status=offline]I am unavailable but you can leave a message in my PM box and I will get back to you the next time I am online[/status]"

I really would like to see something like this as a global SMF feature for the next release or something. SO I can use a dynamic sig ^ like that..

Use a php script that checks whether your username is logged in, then make it output an image as a header if you are, or another image if you aren't. Then just insert the php script as an image into your sig.

What is wrong with the online indicator under the badges?

I dont think this is needed tbh. I dont know many people that would use this.

[off-topic] Though I always wanted a away system type of feature ;) [/off-topic]

Easy. When you're going away for a weekend, put this in your signature:

"I'm going away. That's right, I have a life! So I won't be here to answer your PMs. I'll be back on [date]. So long, suckers!!!"

:P

Yeah haha - thats what I do now. :P

Brings the topic more off-topic
I was talking about almost like the online status icon turns to a "clock" or something. Than when you click on it - it brings you to your profile saying the reason why your away. But anyway this would be an entirly new topic.

The online/offline image under the usernames <-- is fine. However, I am looking for something you could customize each message in your signature with. ;)

I can think of many reasons why I wouldn't want to advertise that I wouldn't be around for the weekend.

Agreed, rsw686, as I so sarcastically tried to point out. There are lots of things that just don't need a mod, that can merely be done with current features. The awayness functionality is one, as is, I think, this request.

or you could try dynamic sig that Daniel15 created and use that as your banner.  I havent checked recently but I think it still works

I know it works. I've experimented with it. However, I am looking for text in signature - something you can just go. "I am online whoopee!!!" or "I am offline. Message me for help or just await my reply to your post in the forums." all customizable with bbc.
