As for the invalid/corrupted, you might not be able to do the Web-Fetching on your host.
The best idea would be to download it from the topic itself and upload it via the package manager

Is it MOD related?
Open ./Sources/Subs-Package.php and check whether it says
* Software Version: SMF 1.1.3 *
rather than
* Software Version: SMF 1.1.2 *
which the package was expecting.
Thats what a friend had on his install with 1.1.5 that I've just had to fix on that exact file.
Although I didn't have to do that on my own.
yes it says * Software Version: SMF 1.1.3
but where should I change?
change the 3 to a 2, then try applying the package again ;)
I have the exact same error. I've checked and my /Sources/Subs-Package.php says SMF 1.1.3.
Then as above, change the 1.1.3 to 1.1.2, then try to apply the package again.
I'm hopeful it will resolve it.
Changed it and still get the same error.
same here

But this is a "text" ? Changed and not worked.
It appears that the only changes to the file was back in June 2007 when I applied the upgrage to 1.1.3.
I had the same issue on a friends forum, which I've just upgraded.
When I opened /Sources/Subs-Package.php and it said
* Software Version: SMF 1.1.3 *
rather than
* Software Version: SMF 1.1.2 *
So i changed it, and it worked for me.
That's what I did but I still get the error. Why would it be looking for 1.1.2 if we applied the upgrade to 1.1.3 back in 2007? Oh well someone will figure it out I guess.
A fresh install of 1.1.4 has it at 1.1.2.
So I guess there was an edit in the 1.1.3 update that changed that file, but that text change at least wasn't replicated into the 1.1.4 install package.
Yep, I just found that myself. I have the file from a fresh install and am going to FTP that in the place of the one I have and see if that works.
Should i upgrade to the beta instead?
Now I'm really stumped. I get the same error even with that one. There must be something else.
That's exactly what I'm doing... checking the differences.
EDIT: ok, I gave up... :(
I'm giving up for tonight also. I'll have to try again tomorrow. Good Luck!
I tried to apply this to one of my 1.1.4 forums, which is (almost) default. No mods, apart from users online today. It failed and I got this:

SMF 1.1.4 / TP 1.0.5 , Quite a few mods installed and a few custom code edits. First time I've had any problem upgrading.
Except for the "brd-bug fix" which I had to do manually, everything went smoothly for me. :D
I just upgraded and except for my package manager not working (again, but i think that's my host issue) this is the only other issue I found.....
the highlighted areas USED to say [ Uninstall ] now, nothing.
The red circle? I have no clue. I uploaded the files and that's what happened... it auto installed. It's a previous issue I've addressed in the appropriate forum

hi, my co admin upgraded to 1.1.5 today, and now we've got lots of errors and plenty of issues. She didn't uninstall any mods, and now we can't get access to parts of the forum the mods provided. The address still takes you there, so it's still there. But no one can register and i dont' have the option to uninstall some of the mods. The question i have is.
Is it safe to uninstall the upgrade?

No not yet, was about to and then post back with the results.
Quote from: JimM on May 01, 2008, 11:31:45 AMDid you try this?
Okay, i did try that, and it worked, however, when i goto uninstall it, it gives me some errors like Test Failed, which i realize might be because of a) the upgrade b) the MANY other mods that have overwritten these files before adding new code or c) something i did which could also be a byproduct of b d) missing files (which shouldnt' be the case!)
I don't know how to successfully uninstall everything i have and reinstall it. Do i have to wait till these mods are upgraded (especially since i went in and manually added 1.1.5 to the package-info.xml) and now my downloads mod shows up twice in the menu!
Where do I find the XML file other than inside the .zip file? If that's the only place do I have to unzip, change, rezip and reupload to the server? If so should I FTP it or use Package manager?
**Edit** Well I figued out why some of the packages don't give an uninstall option and others do. The one's that do have the uninstall option do NOT have the SMF version number in the .xml file and the ones that don't give the option do have it.
So I suppose the above question still remains.... how best to edit the .xml file.

I know I'm a noob, but... I have a file manager package installed, so i used that to download the file to my desktop, extracted the files, changed the according files with notepad , zipped it back up(made sure they kept the right name) and re uploaded using the file mananger.
If you have that package, it's worth a shot. and if you have it installed but can't get to it in your admin panel, try adding this behind your address. /index.php?action=filemanager It worked for me.
Yeah, I just FTP'd them and it worked fine. In all cases I added the number instead of changing them. It's all straight now.
Hi all any help appreciated, I am trying to upgrade our forum from 1.1.4 to 1.1.5 but get the error "The package you are trying to download or install is either corrupt or not compatible with this version of SMF"
I have tinyportal; and some mods installed maybe this is the problem , I hope i don't have to uninstall everything to get the patch working as it as is a large forum with many members for a gaming community, disruption would cause so many problems.
Any help appreciated greatly.
Are you trying to do it directly from Package Manager? If so, download it to your computer and then upload with Package Manager and install it that way. It did the same to me.

That's the problem. They suggested not to modify the original SSI functions because of future upgrade. They also suggested to copy the original function and modify that copy for you to use.

Yes you are right, when i saw SSI alone failed, i just tried to mod SSI file manually, and found none of the lines to match with the existing one. So i left the plan of Upgrading.
not sure what the changes are in SSI.php but you may be able to save your current put in a clean copy and do the upgrade. then put your SSI.php back

local path is what directory on the server is the software in. this is not typicaly the same as the URL
goto Adimn->Server Settings

Hi Anyone can help.
I downloaded smf_patch_1.0.13_1.1.5_2.0-b3.1.tar but how to upgrade by using this file?
Thank you.
What version are you using? If 1.1.4 you can just get the patch from the Admin->Packages area and apply it from there. The local path is the path to your SMF directory (ex: public_html/smf).
I am getting the following error after upgrading via the Admin/Packages update:
Table './chevy/smf_log_search_results' is marked as crashed and should be repaired
File: /vservers/chevy/htdocs/smforum/Sources/Search.php
Line: 1385
Note: It appears that your database may require an upgrade. Your forum's files are currently at version SMF 1.1.5, while your database is at version 1.1.2. The above error might possibly go away if you execute the latest version of upgrade.php.
You can try to fix it in your CPANEL.
Server CPANEL? or on the forum?
Anyone? the search funtion on my board is giving the above error and I don't know how to go about updating the database. The package intalled fine with no errors when I ran it. Should it not have updated the database at the same time?

you could try seraching the SMF site for those errors
You need to login to your webhost's control panel (usually cPanel) and go into phpMyAdmin (http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=21919.0). Click on your database and then check the smf_log_search_results entry. Scroll down to the bottom and under the With selected drop down menu, choose repair table.
If you still need help on this, create a new topic since you are not the original topic starter and it seems to be abandoned.
I'm not a IT wizard but I've always been able to keep my forum up to date .. until I tried upgrading to 1.1.5 :'(
Can someone help me please? I am running 1.1.4 so I should be able to upgrade from the administrator panel in my forum. When I click on 'upgrade' I get three error messages (In Dutch so I'll translate them) and the process stops. It strongly adivises not to continue with the upgrade.
1. Voer aanpassing uit smf_1-1-4_to_1-1-5_patch.mod Modificatieverwerkingsfout
2. Voer aanpassing uit smf_1-1-5_can_fail.xml Modificatieverwerkingsfout
3. Voer aanpassing uit - Modificatieverwerkingsfout
"Voer aanpassing uit" means something like Execute adaptation or modification
"Modificatieverwerkingsfout" means Modification process error

what are permissions on temp directoy under Packages?
There is no temp directory under Packages. There is only a directory called backups.
That one has read, write and execute permissions for everybody.

Test failed just means that previous mods you've installed have alter the code in such a way the automated installation process for those files cannot be done.
Be sure to download those files via FTP to your computer, then using a decent text editor (Notepad++) make the appropriate edits for the upgrade manually (Manual Installation of Mods (http://docs.simplemachines.org/index.php?topic=402)) to those specific files. Then once 100% done run the upgrade, ignore errors and proceed. Then upload those altered files after update.
PS: Posting in an already solved thread will result in less chance for support. Please start your own in future.
Thanks for the support! I will follow your instructions impeccably.
BTW, sorry about posting in the "solved thread". I never saw anywhere that said this thread had been closed (or solved). Maybe I missed it somewhere along the way? Didn't see it at the tail end of the board before I posted. ???
edit - Never mind. Now I see it at the index board. My bad.
Be sure to backup before doing any major edits of course.
Yes it can be tricky to notice, but any thread that has a 'solved' tick as it's message icon has been deemed solved, FYI.
