Title: Adding adsense
Post by: Mynamehere on June 01, 2008, 07:14:35 AM
I know, it is evil, but I need to ad some advertisements to my forum so I can cover the costs... I am thinking of one banner at the top bit, and perhaps some links at the bottom (using adsense).

How can this be done?

Have you visited www.smfads.com as there is a board which contains the needed modifications to many custom themes? :)

http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?action=parse

huge load of "file edits" (guess they must be done manually) and at the end:

File Operations
Move the included file "Ads.php" to "./Sources".
Move the included file "LoadAds.php" to "./Sources".
Move the included file "Ads.template.php" to "./Themes/default".
Move the included file "Ads.english.php" to "./Themes/default/languages".
Move the included file "Ads.english-utf8.php" to "./Themes/default/languages".

No clue what this means.

In the mod zip file there will be various files such as Ads.php which needs to be uploaded to the forum Sources folder on your website through your hosts control panel or with FTP :)

Where is this zipfile?

I do not see it anywhere, and I AM logged in.

Okay, finally found the zip (should not have clicked the submit link)

Now the question is...how to get it working...

just check this:
http://torncitycomplete.com/forum/index.php

I have installed it, and made one ad. In the big box, I entered the google code for a Leaderboard... this is what I get...
snippet of code

New info:

Odd... I get the leaderboard working now... but ONLY when people are logged in...
and a skyscraper at the side of the forum seems impossible, as it automatically loads above the forum.

(I'd post on smfads, but it seems to be broken)

Any suggestions on how to get ads for non-logged in people as well?

And... is it possible to create a group which does not see ads?

Firstly as a new Administrator I recommend checking out the Online Manual - http://docs.simplemachines.org/

Now have you checked out the Support and comments for this mod for the mod (found in the place you download the mods from).
http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=68632.0
It's a popular mod and if you read there I'm sure you might even find answer to questions you've got on the mod from those that have already asked them before.
