Title: Using BluesMC, would like a "You\'ve got messages" alert
Post by: Paulo.1 on September 25, 2008, 08:57:05 PM
I am using Blues MultiColor theme: http://custom.simplemachines.org/themes/index.php?lemma=750

You have to remember to manually check to see if you have messages and was wondering if there was a mod or something that would alert you that you have messages whenever you log in.

I am on another forum and this pop-up box comes up if you have mail.  It also pops up if you are lurking the forum and someone sends you a message. I don't need a fancy pop up box, even a simple text  above the discussion area would work.

Any suggestions?

Maybe it isn't enabled. Profile => Personal Message Options => "Show a popup when you receive new messages?". Tick the checkbox to enable.

Thanks Johnny B, that's what I was talking about.

Is there a way to make this a forum default instead of having every user make this change?  Maybe as an admin I can change it for everybody or send them a message to turn this on.

**Edit**
I also noticed that Firefox's built-in pop-up blocker blocks it from popping up.

**Edit2**
OK, I found a mod that makes it pop up in the active window (instead of default new window) so the pop-up blocker doesn't block it.  The users have to have the checkbox ticked like Johnny B. posted above:
PM Popup - Uses Active Window: http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=1203
