Ive searched but I could not find anything. When you click the "Show unread posts since last visit" link you get the list and the only option is to mark all read. I think along with that option each thread should have a check box to mark just certain threads as read. Like on this board there is always threads in language specific boards that I have no interest in since I only know english or threads like WAG. That the user could first go thru and get out all the threads that have no use to them and then go back one by one to the threads that they actually want to look at.
yes, or an Ignore topic function. otherwise, you'll have to keep checking them as read every time. i'm tempted to go back to WAG and delete all my posts there :P

Now theres an idea!!!!!!!!!!
Supose ignore category/board/topic would work better but something along those general lines.
I am very against ignore topics because it would just add so very many queries, and in truth there are just a few but somewhat outspoken supporters of it.

Well what about the check box option?
so...[edit: you are saying then, Unknown]
too hard,
shut up,
lock,
move to denied requests. [edit: ? :P]

Who died and left you in charge? :-X
i'm summarizing the essence of what Unknown said, to see if that's what he meant, not issuing an order :)

Well he said the ignoring was too many queries didnt say anything about a check box option. Plus that was only for topics and not categories/boards
well, i started making the post before you posted your follow-up question, but just didn't post it till afterward.
Ok works me.
But the check box option and ingoring 5 categories and 45 boards is quite different than trying to ignore 75000 topics.
Still the same issue... I believe it would still take more queries and possibly slowing the system. All I do is go to the board and mark as read. There, done. (Language boards anyway)
well, what about ignore topic just in unreadreplies? i don't think that would require a whole lot of queries, and it would only be called when you click the link.
The checkbox thing is doable.

Thank U~

Give it time unk.. I've had members begging for an ignore category/topic option for months. Also, wouldn't there be at least a slight balancing effect in speed/performance? By that I mean...more query time, but fewer results/less output handling?
Just tell me you'll at least look into it once you've tackled the more pressing beta issues, and I'll shut up about it (for a while at least)..
:)

Not at all...

Okeedokee. No sense hounding you further with so much on your plate. Sorry for the bother.
/me shuts up about it.
Okay, I have an option for you:
I might be willing to make it so you can ignore entire BOARDS. Just not TOPICS.
-[Unknown]
That would be great, and properly addressed as a board feature imo. Ignore topic might best be handled as a mod, since not all forum administrators would want to take the performance hit in implementing it.
Thanks for the consideration.
i don't understand why ignore topic would take any more resources than notification. if it only applies when you click the unreadreplies button, wouldn't that be the only query that has to deal with it?
That query is already slow enough :P.

Can the posts found with the 'unread posts' search have an included tick box like in your private messages? That way you can go through and check those you want to just ignore but you don't mark everything as read.
"Show Unread Posts Since Last Visit" doesn't actually mark the posts read. They stay unread until you either read the post or mark the board that the post is in as read...
Right... but there is a mark as read when you have a list. What I'd like to see is a checkbox beside each of those posts, just like in your pm box. Allow a member to check all that they want to delete (just like in PM) and delete only those with the checkmarks rather than ALL of them.
Ah, I see... A checkbox beside each post allowing a user to mark only those posts read. Interesting idea.
Yes, that's the idea... I don't speak Dutch or Italian or German, etc... I'd like to be able to mark those as read so there aren't five pages of posts to sort thru trying to find ones I want to read. :)
