Title: Forum Maintenance
Post by: Baross on December 14, 2008, 09:01:30 AM
Hi,

I have Removed accidentaly all topics not posted in for 30 days...I wanted to remove the Moved topics but I did it for "Any sort of topic"...this way I deleted most of my forum`s messages. It was a stupid thing but now I can`t see most of the messages. There was 23 0000 messages and now there are 2000..

Can I restore those as it was yesterday...I have an older backup of the hole database...can I restore it to merge the existing one so I don`t loose the messages posted in the meantime ?
Can anyone tell me how to do that ? ... if it is possible.
Thank you

yes you can dump old database
how old it is?
you may ask to your host for recent backup

Generally you will loose all current messages if you restore old database.

The thing you asked is database merger and as per my info there is no such tool available for it for SMF.

Problem 50% solved...the backup was 2 weeks old ... I`ve doped the current data base and Import the old one..I have lost this way the messages and the accounts that added in these two weeks..no problem regarding the messages, but the accounts ... I don`t want them lose.
So, I tried to add this accounts using php MyAdmin..I`ve imported them from a sql dump and it was added to smf_members table...but I have one other issue. On the main page of the forum, in the footer where the statistics are shown, it shows me the number of acconts without those I have added. Why is that ? Is there another data base table that I need to change in order to show in Statistics, all the accounts ?

I hope you understand...I am not a very good english speaker-writer.

you dont need to add user from data base
just add from admin panel and later fix tha date of they join from phpmyadmin>> smf>>members
Did you asked your host for database? most of them does daily backup

They do weekly backup...I will add this accounts in Administration panel and then add the password in the smf_members table. I think it is ok this way. Thank you.
