Hello Everyone,
As you can see I am a new member, and this is my first post. I am a moderator at a forum that uses Simple Machines.
We are having issues with Spammers. We ban them, but lately we have had a few that are coming back with the same username after they were banned.
We didn't think they could do that. When we try to ban them again it tells us that the name has already been banned so it won't let us, but they are still there.
Can anyone help me figure out what the problem is and how do we ban them so they will stay banned? At least for that particular name.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

[TIP/TRICK] Having Problems With Banned Members? (http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=301568.0)
I think this answers your question :)
Thanks very much Jblaze!

No problem mate :)
If you still are having problems after using that, feel free to post back :)
Also remember that you need to make sure that you have defined ban triggers and they are added to the ban. When you ban from a profile, it pre-fills the triggers, but it does not check them for addition. You need to remember to add a checkmark to the triggers you want to use.
Thanks for the help. We are adding a checkmark to the triggers. I do have another question if I may.
I am using Windows. What program would I use to actually go in and modify the .htaccess file?
I have never done that before.

You can use any text editor like notepad++ etc. When you open your site up with an FTP client, some of them require you to change the setting for viewing hidden files. Any file beginning with a period is a hidden file on Linux/Unix.

You can use a simple FTP Client such as Filezilla.
