Post by: sudo on May 22, 2009, 02:13:55 PM
Hello,
I was wondering if its possible to run SMF in two languages: Russian by default and in English if users choose? An example of what I mean would be www.russia0.ru Thank you.

You can set setting: "Enable user-selectable language support"

/index.php?action=serversettings
You can set default language

If your forum is set to use English as default, you then also set your guests to use English. When people then log in, they should have their own choice of language, depending of their personal settings.

When you choose English as standard of the forum in your admin panel, guests will see the forum in English.

Are you sure this is not a browser issue? Try updating your browsers cache by pressing F5 (in most browsers) after you logged out.

That I can't help you when you are not having the copyright in your forum. You are then breaking the agreement of using SMF.

I am not understanding about the copyright matter.

You need to have the copyright shown in your forum like we have here in this forum:

Something similar to this depending on your forum version:
Quote
Powered by SMF 2.0 RC1-1 | SMF © 2006–2009, Simple Machines LLC
XHTML | CSS | XML

It is a copyright missing in your forum that either you or someone else edited out. This is illeagal use of the SMF software.

Akyhne - That to me does not appear to be an SMF install. Instead I think it is vBulletin - and only used as an example.

It there any way to "connect" category to specific language? I mean If someone open category "English" - will get English interface, if open "Japanese" - will get Japanese interface.

I don't think so, not by default at least. But there might be a mod that does it. However I don't think it's a good idea to change peoples default language.

Hmm. Not so optimistic. Anyway, thank you for your quick answer.

There's a mod that gives the visitors to change language by one-click. I think that's the only option. Also seems like a better solution to me. I would be pretty pissed if my language was changed and I didn't ask for it.

If that's not good enough for you, you can always request for someone to make the option for you.
