Title: files overwritten???? - ugrade to 1.1.9
Post by: Sel_888 on June 13, 2009, 02:29:25 PM
I am COMPLETELY confused with the instructions with the upgrade to 1.1.9

I have manually upgraded to 1.1.8 a while ago... not through any upgrade.php direction, just changing each and every file manually.

NOW.... the instructions say for me to upload the whole unzipped stuff to the same directory as my forum... but wouldn't that overwrite everything???? I don't want that to happen... I have a custom .css happening and such... plus I have only the default(core) theme since my upload speeds are horrendously slow (damn satellite connection... my only ISP option at this time for my area) and a theme upload would be hours with all the images etc.

I must be overlooking something. anyone know? I don't want all files to be overwritten, though my FTP client prompts me if I want to overwrite.

Help please? :-[

Hello Sel_888,

Yes, all files will be overwriten if you want to upgrade on that way....
You can just add custom codes later if you want it...

It'll overwrite the whole thing, but if you have custom CSS of the default theme, then make a copy of it before upgrading by going Admin > Themes and Layout

You should never edit the default theme directly.

HMmmm, I guess I can just let everything overwrite...... it's the database's integrity I am most concerned about.... all my images and css alterations are stricly superficial, some changes from .gif to .png and such....

The reason why I believe to just let everything overwrite is the fact that I would like to then upgrade to 2.0... and if its from a nice clean upgrade... and no mods... it just might work.

How well does the 1.1.9 to 2.0 work?

Well, if you're going to upgrade to 2.0, you dont need to go to 1.1.9 to do that. You can go from your current version (going as far back as YaBB SE 1.5.5). So you can just upload 2.0's LARGE UPGRADE package without having to upload 1.1's.

It works quite well. Having had to run it at least 15 or so times.

Thank you.... but arggggggggggggg, I am already half uploaded the files to upgrade to 1.1.9... so I may as well go through with it. I think that it will be a good idea anyways to clean up any mucking around I have done so far with everything.
My forum isn't that old... only 6 months or so... I have:
926 Posts in 179 Topics by 101 Members... and considering that this is an information source forum for us foreign residents here in Mexico, it would be a true shame to lose all this information.

Like I said before.... it's the database and it's contents that I am concerned about. Esthetics is just superficial... and what I had going so far was pretty hokey looking.

I very much LOVE using the SSI.php for the main webpage... but now that I uninstalled the mod to post a specific post, half the website doesn't work. oh well, just another day or so of that......
I know that 2.0 has some extra SSI functions that I need to bone up on... and the themes are looking awesome.

Will keep you posted if all goes accordingly to plan... still very nervous with the whole 1.1.9 upgrade....

QUESTION to Gasmanafc...... will I still need the 'large upgrade' for 2.0... or something smaller.....?

Please make sure you backup your database before starting.

Typo there, it's Gazmanafc, with a z. :P

Anyways, yes, you will need to use the large upgrade pack for 2.0.

The upgrader is able to make a backup for you. So upload the files, and then check the backup data option and you'll be fine.
