Title: Member categories
Post by: progress on April 07, 2005, 05:37:50 AM
Hi All.  I most probably can't see for looking  :D  How do I change a member from Newbie to some other status such as full member?  Also, do the different statuses allow members to do different things, and if so where can I get that info please.  TIA

Phill

Hi Progress,

It depends on what you are trying to achieve by upgrading a member to "Full Member".

In the Admin Center you can set permissions for any MemberGroup that you want.
Hypothetically, say you set up an additional membergroup called "Full Member" in Admin usign "Edit Membergroups".
From there set what ever permissions you want a "Full Member" to have using "Edit Permissions"
Then go in to a members profile and use the "Additional Membergroups:" option to award that group permission and Membergroup status to that member.

Full Member is a post group. You can set it up however you want, and give people who achieve that status ability to do more things (since they post so much, you should reward them ;))

that's not what he was asking.  He's asking how he can manually control which members have access to certain boards.  I'm wondering the same thing, eh?

anyway, there's talk about the memberperms mod doing this, but I can't figure out how to get it to work yet.

For access to specific boards manually?

No big deal. Set up an additional membergroup, give that membergroup access to the board using board permissions, deny all others, then change a members profile to the additional membergroup and it's done.

Works a treat on mine for "invitation only" boards.
