Title: Questions about smf 1 ant smf 2
Post by: Umbus on September 26, 2009, 10:11:59 PM
What will be the added value of smf 2 compared to smf 1?

All you need again? What will have improved and in what ways?

Between the PHPBB3 and SMF 2 which will be the best and why?

Will give to use the Themes and mods SMF SMF 1 in 2?

When you expect to have the version of SMF 2 stable?

Quick Reply:

SMF 2 has more features and options than SMF 1.1.10 has. Also its security will be more reliable.

No answer for your second question for now, as it needs detailed research you can find your self in the SMF Website. It has a lot of information for you on any topic you want.

I am not sure what version of PHPBB I tried, but my website v4website.com was hacked when I was using PHPBB, but I was happy using PHBBB, I left it because of security.

Some will surely not be working with SMF 2, but there are other themes which will work on SMF 2, but not with SMF 1.1.x.

Same is the situation with Mods, but mods are better because there are a lot of mods which support many versions of SMF.

Lots of new features:
* Ability to approve posts before regular members see them
* Enhanced moderation center
* Ability to issue warnings to users
* Internal task scheduling system making it easy for modders to add time-based functions to the forum
* Ability to add paid subscriptions
* Ability to add custom profile fields that you can decide on[/quote]

QuoteAll you need again? What will have improved and in what ways?

Depends on the forum. Many forums want features not available in core distributions which is why there is a strong modding community here.

QuoteBetween the PHPBB3 and SMF 2 which will be the best and why?

We'd say SMF 2 but we're biased. The fact is that phpBB3 has some things SMF 2 doesn't, and SMF 2 has plenty of things phpBB3 doesn't. SMF 2 has a better security record, and I believe is considered to have a stronger password encryption.

QuoteWill give to use the Themes and mods SMF SMF 1 in 2?

Some mods are written to support both SMF 1 and 2 (most of mine are, for example) but not all mods support both. Themes invariably need rewriting for SMF2 however vs SMF1 because of all the internal changes.

QuoteWhen you expect to have the version of SMF 2 stable?

When it's ready. The second major release candidate for SMF 2 is being worked on currently.

In smf2 gives to send a pm so that the user registers, for example welcome?

In smf2 gives to clear the count of posts in a topic?

In smf2 moderators receive a warning when a user is making multiple pms?

There will be moderation area with the problems and reports that users send? That continues to be by email?

I believe there's a mod for that. If not it's not a huge deal to write one.

Not sure I understand what yo u mean.

No. Private messages are considered private, and as such no contact is made to moderators unless PMs are reported by their recipients. This will not change any time soon.

There is a moderation area, yes. Emails are sent additionally though.

I think this would be an asset to the new smf2

I wanted to ask if there was an option for the answers for a topic not be counted.

It is allowed to put videos from youtube for example?

You can set on a per-board level that topics and posts aren't counted towards stats. Anything else would be a mod.

As for YouTube, there are a couple of mods that really help - the basic YouTube tag is this addon (http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=936), and a much more powerful video mod is this one (http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=977).
