Title: Upgrade SMF 1.0.2 -> 1.0.3 with installed Mambo Bridge 3.02
Post by: rboll on April 23, 2005, 04:00:36 AM
Hi,

I am using Mambo 4.5.1a, SMF 1.0.2 with Mambo Bridge 3.02.

Because I am having some problems with IE Browser (sometimes I get "page cannot be displayed", server runs into high load) I am thinking about upgrading to the lastest version of both SMF and the bridge.

Questions:

a) ist it worth to try, could this solve my problem?
b) how should I do the upgrade/update? In which order? The readme in the "smf_1-0-3_update" package says copy and then run "upgrade.php", but i alos can read to use the package manager
c) I tried to use the package manager, but I get a message like "The package you are trying to upload is invalid...." (translated from german)

Is there a one-pager to upgrade 1.0.2 -> 1.0.3 with installed Mambo Bridge?

Your help is very much appreciated!

Ralf.

There are only two steps:

1) upgrade your forum,
2) AFTER step 1 is complete, click the link in the bridge config (the one with all the warnings)

If you upgraded your bridge to 3.12, you wouldn't have to worry about step 2.  ;)

or, even better...  use the package manager to update to SMF 1.0.3.

Don't use the update ZIP file...   got into package manager and click on the link in the top text (right above your installed packages)

then uninstall the bridge files (com_smf, com_smf_registration and mod_smf_login) and install the 3.12 versions along with the new brisge package for SMF.

- I have updated the /SMF Files to Version 1.0.3
- I have updated the Mambo bridge to 3.12

Now when I try to go to the direct URL of the SMF .e.g. http://www.domain.tld/smf my browser (IE or Firefox) is trying to load the page but nothing happens. While the browser tries to load the page, the cpu load on the server is 100%.

As far as I can see, Login/Logout/Registration is working fine, but i cannot open the forum anymore.

Any idea where to start searching?

Ralf.

The forum should work "standalone" even with the bridge so it sounds to me like the forum upgrade isn't correct. I'd start by just getting the forum to work again, ignoring mambo and bridge (fresh upgrade)

- I removed the SMF directory completely.
- Copied all the files of "smf_1-0-3_install" to my /SMF directory
- used install.php to install the software, using the same database settings

Still got the same problem. I cannot open the Forum startpage. cpu load ~ 100% more than 1 minute after a browse to my SMF location

Any ideas?

You copied ALL files for a fresh install? not retaining ANY old ones?

Check for the existence of MOS_SMF in smf/sources.

If not there and the bridge is installed manually upload it

I have deleted the whole SMF directory. Therefore I am sure that ther was nothing left.
After that, I have uploaded the contents of  "smf_1-0-3_install" to that directory and ran install.php

Dont wher to start searching to get my problem solved.
