There are some documents in the online manual that will help, as well as our Graphics and Templates board, under Customizing SMF if you need further guidance.

There is no specific tutorial on how to make a theme at the moment but changing the CSS and images of a theme will give it a unique look if you work well. Also, the start of my theming tutorial is here.
