Simple Machines announces the release of SMF 1.1.11, addressing multiple vulnerabilities found in SMF 1.1.10. Also for those still using the SMF 1.0.x branch, an upgrade to 1.0.19 was released. We strongly recommend that all users upgrade as soon as possible.
Upgrade automatically by visiting your administration center, where a notice will be displayed prompting you to upgrade. Click the link, confirm the changes and your forum will be up to date again. Additionally, you can upgrade using the package manager by downloading the attached patch, uploading it to the package manager, and applying it as prompted. For help with this refer to the Package Manager (http://docs.simplemachines.org/index.php?board=49.0;sort=subject) section of the Online Manual (http://docs.simplemachines.org/).
If you cannot upgrade using the package manager, please follow the instructions posted in the Online Manual (http://docs.simplemachines.org) about installing (http://docs.simplemachines.org/index.php?board=2.0;sort=subject) and upgrading (http://docs.simplemachines.org/index.php?board=3.0;sort=subject). If you experience a session verification error when inputting FTP details for updating process, please see this (http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=278824.0) topic.
It may be necessary to apply the upgrade manually if mod conflicts mean that you cannot install the patch through the package manager. Instructions for doing this can be found on manual upgrades (http://custom.simplemachines.org/upgrades/) page for SMF 1.1.11 and 1.0.19.
Finally - please do not use this topic for any support requests. You will get a much more prompt response by visiting the relevant support board!
Regards,
Simple Machines

For some reason I always prefer using the update pack instead of the patch, maybe it's because I like going into the upgrade.php file? XD
Issue it seems :o

i just upgraded...noticing that flash embeding / image posting is not working because for some reason any URLs are having an extra "http://"
added to the URL so links are coming out looking like "http://http://website....."
suggestions?
I upgraded two forums in one minute using the "Oy, click here!" link on the admin page. I don't see how it could be any easier.
Keep up the good work, good people!

ya i noticed that...lol.
voiced my el problemo there too....
There was indeed a problem with a few modifications in the package. If you've installed it and are experiencing the image location problem, uninstall it (should be easy when using the package manager) and reinstall it either by downloading it again (the proper version is now online) or downloading it from the first message of this topic.
We apologies for the inconvenience this might have caused.
fix worked! that was fast! much appreciated!

Does the 1.1.11 full install have the same issues or not?
I've never done an udate before will this effect my forum?
And could you give me step by step instructions for updating. Thanks

Fastest way to check is to look if your images are missing ...
Apparently the full install I grabbed moments after announcement is broken :-/
Will grab a fresh one momentarily.
So what all was fixed in this update ?

Yes it was, but the packages where regenerated with the fix.

Yeah Rev 9457 has it fixed in the 1.1 trunk builds, probably just awaiting regeneration of the packages.
Edit: Sleepy beat me.
Fails at ./Themes/default/Packages.template.php
Now what?? :'(
Thanks.
UPDATE: Found that the Packages.template.php file on my web site had
"// Version: 1.1.7; Packages" instead of "// Version: 1.1.8; Packages".
Corrected file text, uploaded that, and then the update worked!! Thanks!!! ;D
tcosmas, please open a support topic in the 1.1 support boards and we will be able to help you :)
Methen: Lots of things.
A notice appeared on my forum to upgrade to 1.1.11. It said just click here and all will be fine. I get repeated errors that the package is corrupted. (I use the default theme). I see that some people upgraded just fine but others, including me, did not. I appreciate the developers giving the public SMF and maintaining it. However, it doesn't really help to claim how simple things are when they don't work. I will live with some problems before I will get all frustrated like this. Maybe being a bit forthright would be a good idea rather than "click here and all is OK.
odds are that you have a lot of mods installed, causing the upgrade via the package manager to fail. You should open a support topic about this and I'm sure someone will be glad to help you out.
Hi,
Any chance of being supplied just the difference files from 1.1.10?
Webhost does not allow the forum to execute anything from package manager (been over this with them a few times, the answer is no!) and it's a PITA to upload everything for one or two files.
Which files are changed so I can just upload those?
Thanks! ;D

Please open a support topic, some servers don't support the package manager, however the update package should work fine?
Trekkie101, heritage: Seems there was a slight glitch with how this package was built. Has been rectified now if you attempt to grab it again via your admin panel.
Thanks Trekkie! ;D
Cheers!
Just as an FYI, if you have nCode Image Resizer v1.2 (http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=1197) installed, you'll need to uninstall it before applying this update. It modifies at least 1 line in the /Sources/Subs.php file which will cause this update to fail.
Yes, that mod modifies how image tags are handled - any mod that does the same will require removal then you'll need to wait for its author to update.
Thanks for the heads-up!
updated in seconds fix worked pretty good
thanks for new release

Once this got fixed, I upgraded four forums in a matter of minutes. All went into place without a hiccup. Thanks!
One of the forums I managed moved to a new server, so it was my first experience with the FTP permissions change screen. Nicely, the process worked great. Yet another example of the care put into SMF.
(The new server runs a default Plesk install, the old one was custom-managed.)
Thank you so much :D great work

Does anyone know if this fix an issue where a user can change another user's password? I'm having that issue in my forum so we disabled profiles. Does this fix that bug? Or at least, did you know about that bug? :S.
Thanks.
PS: Anyway, I'm installing the upgrade... I just want to know if it fix it so I can put the profiles active again.
I don't think it does, venex, however this does seem to be on our bug tracker.
Updated without any problems. Thanks. ;D

Have the update zip files on the Downloads page been updated to fix the extra http error? Because I updated via those files less than an hour ago and my forum is still having the problem; image tags, links, etc. don't work at all.

SMF 1.1.x is not developed anymore and hasn't been developed for years. All updates are related to sequrity updates, and are important.
I am very aware of that, but I had also read there were some template edits.

For everyone who use Ncode image resizer:
In ./Sources/Subs.php
Find:
'content' => '<img src="$1" alt="" border="0" onload="NcodeImageResizer.createOn(this);" />',
'validate' => create_function('&$tag, &$data, $disabled', '$data = strtr($data, array(\'<br />\' => \'\'));'),
And replace with this:
'content' => '<img src="$1" alt="" border="0" onload="NcodeImageResizer.createOn(this);" />',
'validate' => create_function('&$tag, &$data, $disabled', '
$data = strtr($data, array(\'<br />\' => \'\'));
if (strpos($data, \'http://\') !== 0 || strpos($data, \'https://\') !== 0)
$data = \'http://\' . $data;
'),
Little bug fix. Someone will not showen image, if have some other install mode: Then they can use next code:
'content' => '<img src="$1" alt="" border="0" onload="NcodeImageResizer.createOn(this);" />',
'validate' => create_function('&$tag, &$data, $disabled', '
$data = strtr($data, array(\'<br />\' => \'\'));

Sorry for this question, but what means this version vs. 2.0?
Thank you
This update affects 1.0 and 1.1.
A further update to 2.0 will be at some stage, to deal with issues that arose out of 2.0 RC2.

added to the URL so links are coming out looking like "http://http://website....."

Is there any reason 80% of the packages I try to install aren't compatible with this version?
It's a real pain.
Yesterday I tried to add "increase message box size", "Hide mod and admin edit notes" and a couple of others.
Will this be fixed any time in the near future?

Mods are not created by the team for most part, so it's up to the author to make them compatible. Ask in the support topics of the mods.
nice.........will be upgrade my forum too ;D
update :
just using package manager, only 2 click, and viola........upgraded. really easy
nice ;D
i got a error in subs.php .... how do i manually modify it ? where from i get the modifications ?
If you errors installing the patch, then you should remove the mods that makes changes to that part. From there, you probably need to ask the author(s) of your mod(s) to make them SMF 1.1.11 compatible.
ahhhh thats a big mess .. anyways leave that i downloaded the patch opened the .mod file and modified my subs.php manually now its fine .. Thanks SMF for update
Help...
I haven't upgraded since 1.1. RC2... I have asked my support several times, but does never get an answer or help... So I need to to it my self.. I'm a little bit afraid for doing something wrong... Could someone give me an easy description....'
You'll need the big upgrade package, and will want to do a manual upgrade. Instructions are in the online manual. Note that this will remove all installed modifications and you will need to reinstall them once the upgrade is complete. There is also a chance that any custom themes might not work and you'll need to update those too.
Despite the pain this might cause, please do upgrade. There have been several large security holes fixed since that version.
Upgraded without a problem....
thanks smf ^^

Your FTP server connection address, your own FTP login name and password, and the relative path to your SMF installation, from the FTP index folder. For most, the FTP server is localhost, the rest is up to you.

Parsing of basic HTML images and escaping of smiley sets - is that so important? Where are the big security fixes that shine red in my administration panel?
The package manager delivers a negative installation check for subs.php - I'll rather skip this version, looking at all the bugs and incompatibilities it seems to cause. :-\
The reason is because it's possible to add malicious code through those tags if abused.
When, for example, should it be the case that an image tag's contents doesn't begin with http, https or (possibly) ftp ?
Good Job!!!
Quick and easy. Thanks a lot!
my current version is SMF 1.1.2 and i wish to upgrade to 1.1.11. I try many attempt from package upgrade but failed. anyone can help.
john from singapore :) :)

glaswerkz, please open a new thread in Install and Upgrade Help with more information, like exactly how you tried to upgrade via the package manager.
Forum with tons of MODS updated without any problems at all. How I will ever get my monster to SMF 2.0 I have no idea but that is for another day. Thanks for the updated security :)
One question, if i use some modifications like awards or stuff like that and i have modified deafult theme... can i update or it may mess up my forum?
How safe is update?
If you try the install it always does a test first to show if the install will have an error. If not, you just proceed and it will upgrade fairly quickly. Of course, before making any changes you should always backup stuff. For the most part, it's pretty safe to update with mods.

Thanks! Had a little problem with subs.php (Test Failed) so I had to manually do that one (had something to do with Image Resizer mod). Otherwise, excellent patch!
hi, i would like to know, how and what exactly you changed in subs,php, please help
raghhav: http://custom.simplemachines.org/upgrades/ - you can use that to see every single change in every one of the files.
You know, it would be REALLY nice if on the next update, you nueter down upgrade_1-1.sql or at least improve it so it doesn't run ALTER TABLE that are redundant/existing formats. I've got 700K posts in messages, and when it gets to:
ALTER TABLE {$db_prefix}messages
CHANGE COLUMN ID_MSG_MODIFIED ID_MSG_MODIFIED int(10) unsigned NOT NULL default '0';
and
ALTER TABLE {$db_prefix}messages
ADD INDEX ipIndex (posterIP(15), ID_TOPIC);
IT sends my server off into never-never land, the operations taking so long they time out, even though the damned tables are already IN that structure and HAVE that index! The past six updates I've had to go in and manually comment those out of that .sql file to get the blasted upgrades to go in. (and I do check that the values in said list are applied)
Likewise, when you put together the 'small update' or even the 'large upgrade', it might just help NOT to include the files that haven't changed since 2005? Like say... THE ENTIRE MALFING IMAGE DIRECTORIES in the themes?!? Just saying for those of us with large boards for whom the automatic packages don't work - or have made modifications to things like subs.php to make values like $break not be, as the comment in the code says: "SADLY and INCREDIBLY browser dependent" (I did mention that can be fixed in another thread like a year ago, right?) meaning we have to manually update... or even just those of us who refuse to allow settings.php to be 755 or 777 (oh yeah, that's a brilliant ***** idea, how did that avatar exploit work again? Using $_POST to build an array without checking entries and modifying settings.php?) - we might appreciate those types of changes to the packages.
Seriously, what does the 1.1.10 to 1.1.11 'small update' need to be including ALL of the themes directory when the most recently updated file is from july, only three files have been updated within the past year, and the majority of the files haven't seen changes since 2007!
Though I think I said this for 1.1.10 as well.
Wanna move this to bug reports? :D
Btw, I agree about the "small update" packages. I usually strip them down before applying them. Much faster if you have to do an ftp job.
1-click-update worked perfectly for me, thanks!
Updated with no problem. Thank you.
Hi, I installed the new updates but when I try to delete some users or post i get the following error message;
Database Error
Unknown column 'a.file_hash' in 'field list'
File: /home/af/public_html/\alk/Sources/Display.php
Line: 711
Note: It appears that your database may require an upgrade. Your forum's files are currently at version SMF 1.1.11, while your database is at version 1.1.5. The above error might possibly go away if you execute the latest version of upgrade.php.
Can someone help me please?
You need to run the "upgrade script" to complete your upgrade.
I did run the upgrade script, but there are few language files which are not upgraded. How do I finish this issue?
Please create a new topic in the 1.1.x support board, to get answers to your questions.

Does anyone know an RSS poster mod that will work with 1.1.11 ?
RSS Feeder - only for 2.0RC2
RSS Feed Poster - now unsupported and buggy on my board,
Are there any others? Are most people going straight to 2.0RC2 or should we hold out for live board?
Thanks for replies.
AFAIK those are the only two such mods.
