Title: Impossible to login
Post by: cleftangels on July 04, 2010, 03:44:04 PM
Greetings,

I tried to do a localhost convert of my forum before doing it live. The conversion goes well, everything goes smoothly untill you get errors saying "getimagesize' failed and also the copy failed. But I think that is just my ranks and smilies.

I also applied the login fix from the first post.

So I am converting phpbb 3.0.7-PL1 to smf 1.1.11. So after the conversion if I try log in under any name all that happens is......... Exactly that nothing. Opera, Fire Fox, and IE just stick on 0% loaded for as long as I leave them.

How can I cure this I am dying to get away from phpbb

Greetings just tried it and and still no luck.

Although there were alot of settings which weren't the suggested settings i just followed the repair tools suggested settings.

So I go to log in and then "Password security has recently been upgraded. Please enter your password again." Comes up. I enter my pwd again and that's it she sticks there. so far 5 min and counting

______________edit

sorry though I should just mention that I can sign up as a new user without any problems. and the rest of the forum is working great, just not the users part :-[

---------------------edit

Also though maybe it was a mysql db error so I went in and took a user deleted their password, then tried to log in again and same thin happened,

Does SMF not have a error log? I have looked but can't seem to find one.

There should be a log in Admin -> Forum Maintenance Error Log

If not, you can enable it in Admin -> Features and Options -> Basic Options -> Enable error logging

Also, have you tried to do a Find and Repair any errors in Admin -> Forum Maintenance?

Ok found  out what must be done and here are the steps:

Convert your DB
then register a new nick on the board
goto your mysql db and make that person admin
MANUALY!!!! go and reset all passwords

that allows the users to then log in. (Is there a script for this maybe????)

BIG TROUBLE!!!!!!!

PM's are not transfered to the correct owner it just throw them where ever it feels like by the look, this is not really a problem as you can always just empty the PM entry in the DB before you transfer.

cleftangels, I'm wondering if you tried the Forum Maintenance options like I suggested?

Sorry, forgot too answer your question. Yes I tried everything that the board offers in way of repairing etc.

It seems to be that SMF just can not reset the password.

Hmmmmm :P Don't I feel like a complete twat.....

Anyway just jot it down somewhere that the password problem ONLY happens when it is on localhost.

I just converted my board no problems what so ever on the live version. Oh except the private message thing still happened so I just removed them form the DB.

Sorry to have wasted your time but at least it's a learning curve

No problem :) It could just have been an issue with your localhost being on windows?

Glad it's fixed. I'll mark this as solved, feel free to mark it unsolved if you have additional questions.
