Post by: cicka on July 28, 2010, 11:23:59 AM
Link to Mod (http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=2629)

This will give you the oppurtinity to create a global message or announcement for your forum which will be displayed in index page, footer or both.
The add on is fully configured at Admin->Panel->Modification Settings->Global Forum Message. You can use html and smileys in your message. You can choose which groups will see the message oe announcement too.
This can be done at Permissions->Usergroup->Modify. Below General you will see a new permission, View global forum message. There you can set the permissions acccordingly for each group.

I like the look of that, cicka.  :)

Is it OK to use this as well as the News Fader?

Thank you Joker™ :)

Yes MATTEK. This can be done at Permissions->Usergroup->Modify. Below General you will see a new permission, View global forum message. There you can set the permissions acccordingly for each group.

Thank you YogiBear :) Yes, I think it should be ok to use it with the News Fader. Should not be any conflicts.

Is it OK to use BBCode for styling, cicka? I can see great possibilities here.  :)

You can use smileys and html but for the rest of BBCode I am afraid not. However if you want to use a link or an image you can do it with html too :)

I've tested standard bbc and it seems to work fine. Centering, bolding, etc.

Thank you for posting this. :) I did not think to test it for bbcode because I had not made the changes for it.

A problem here, cicka. I've enabled it to show in the footer so I can see it as an admin but whereas the Category bar shows up there's no text anywhere.

Same prob if I try in the header.

I'm using English with version and mods as below.

Edit : I tried it with plain text (no codes) but no luck.

Can you make different messages to show up for different membergroups or can you only have one message at a time? And will this mod conflict with your Activity Reminder Message mod?

No, this will show only one global message and you can choose which groups can view it. I do not see any reason why it should conflict with my other add on, Activity Reminder Message.

A very useful mod. Will it run harmoniously with Simple Portal?

Good news. Simple Portal have no such block position for that yet. How does it look with SP then? The same as the sample pictures?

From the look of it that is not my add on. Because my add on displays the message in a different way. And also your forum is at version 2.0. rc 1 and the add on is compatible only with 2.0. rc 3.

This mod is almost similar to Global Header & Footer by vbgamer. May be he is mistaken?

Indeed. That is for sure. I meant the OP might be mistaken when he is referring to you for support while he could be using other mod instead.

what about adding an option to enter wich forums to show it... by forum IDs by example...
and maybe the ability to add several messages, selecting where to show each one...

it will be not "global" sure... but useful in certain cases... maybe an idea for another mod, lol

It looks like a very interesting idea for a add ons but I started school and I do not have very much free time to spend on creating add ons.
