ohhh its great then.... thanks for the mod :)
Me installed but nothing can see new! Me changed the settings and Active atlast a blogs button only showed!
Hw it wrks? Any extra mod will add for showing?
ok, I changed the $smcfunc part at line 1011. Now the "about me works" also I made a test post which worked ok until I tried to edit it.
this gave a fatal error at line 700 which incidently shows the same error as before
QuoteFunction name must be a string in /customers/animanon.com/animanon.com/httpd.www/Forum3/Sources/BlogAdminSettings.php on line 700
So i changed as previous alteration, now I get a no message body error on edits and new blogs.
Are you updating the source files in the package so that other people don`t get these problems? just wondered.
Could u tell hw it wrks?
So, I have not specifically looked into the code... but I have some questions
Does this use the SMF_Messages table or a new table?
How are the categories handled? (individual, per user or admin assigned and the selectable per user?)
Are tag clouds/keyword supported?
Where is the link to a user's blog?
Is there a general "all blog posts" page?
Does this use the standard SMF post-entry form? (i.e. will mods like Aeva or Glossary automatically work?)
Does this support the full (i.e. modified or added) BBC codes?
Is there a way to limit which users (or usergroups) have access to start a blog? (i.e. all users can read and comment, but only certain user(groups) can have an actual blog in their name.
Can you write a converter from the excellent (but outdated and unsupported) zBlog/zCommunity?
QuoteCan you write a converter from the excellent (but outdated and unsupported) zBlog/zCommunity?
Now that would be nice Kindred, but would Charles Hill appreciate that!
from my inital dabblings
- creates new tables
- categories individual
- no keywords/ clouds
- hav`nt found the link to users blogs , but have inkling they might be in profile
- no
- yes
- yes
- yes
- untried
Charles Hill has abandoned his mod, and SMF completely. Plus, writing a converter does not require permission (e.g. all of the converters from one forum to another forum)
zCommunity works acceptably, but it has some bugs which will never be fixed and no further development or support is provided.... so, if I can switch to a new, supported and dynamic (i.e. maintained and updated) system, I'd like to...
One critical feature is the "all blogs" or at least a "recent blog posts" page.
i.e.
http://www.40konline.com/community/index.php?zc
http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=246151.msg2733222#msg2733222
thank you for the correction. Apparently he has not abandoned SMF, just the blog mod. :(
Can`t seem to see other peoples Blogs with this, only your own... nothing in profile... which seems to be pretty pointless...
someone should revive ZCommunity as this was the best Blog for SMF. ( but I digress!)
I would love to see all that Kindred has listed supported, Then we may get a better blog system
aah now sorted , just click blogs in the tab, then they all appear. If you click into "My Blog" dropdown then you will only see your own blogs
Kindred.. you added a good point.. I will think about it.
Kreator.. I'm working in that ;)
V1.0.2
unhtmlspecialchars...
If you want to upgrade... reupload the BlogAdminSettings.php file to the sources folder
Hi there,
It's a great mod! I wonder if there is a page where I could see all blogs, not only mine, but blogs of other members aswell. :)
Edit: How can I make the auto width & height at Blogs?

Hmm, no. On any topic? I only can see blogs if I go to the 'Blog' title at menu... I don't see at any forum topics links to his/her blog.
By the way, I use your ADK portal. Is there a 'create php' for something like: Last 5 blogs... with: avatar, and subject of Blog ?
Also, I would love to see a auto sizer for images... auto resize to 500 x 500 or something..
Thanks :)

sorry, not enabled for visitor viewing any more
one other category enabled as well, just need some bloggers to post haha!!
Thanks for the mod lucas I hope you add some nice enhancements to it!. ie: bloggers section with table of contents instead of the whole list of blogs when you click on the blog ( does that make sense??)
Just a quick one here, I can get visitors to view blogs,
but there is no permissions for visitors to comment, (see screenshot) is that standard??
and how can I set the blogs in Simple Portal??
Still one question not answered, one blog a user, or can they have, for example, two?
actually, another, similar question... How can the blog owner be switched? In other words, user X is blogging about a topic, but gets bored or busy and passes the blogging responsibility to user Z... how do I switch the blog to be under user Z's account now?
Same theme, different detail: Can a blog have MULTIPLE owners?

Iap... the visitor can't add new comments...
If you want create a php block for your simple portal... you can use the following code:
<?php
global $smcFunc, $context, $scripturl, $modSettings, $txt, $settings;
$limit = 5;
$sql = $smcFunc['db_query']('','

mem.avatar, mem.real_name, mem.id_member,
IFNULL(a.id_attach, 0) AS id_attach, a.filename, a.attachment_type
FROM {db_prefix}blog_comments AS co, {db_prefix}blog_categories AS ca, {db_prefix}members AS mem
LEFT JOIN {db_prefix}attachments AS a ON (a.id_member = mem.id_member)
WHERE co.is_started = {int:s} AND co.id_cat = ca.id_cat AND mem.id_member = co.id_member
ORDER BY co.id_initial DESC
LIMIT {int:limit}',
array(
'limit' => $limit,
's' => 1,
)
);
$context['info'] = array();
$width = 50;
$height = 50;
while($row = $smcFunc['db_fetch_assoc']($sql))
{
$image = '<img src="'.$settings['images_url'].'/post/'.$row['icon'].'.gif" alt="" /> ';
$context['info'][] = array(

Each user can manage your own blog, create your custom categories... and add your posts. It's one blog per user.

No, They doesn't.
One per user. Thank you I don't really need this then. Good job tho!!
Thanks ^^
No problem. I really need this for my site though.
Thanks Lucas, the simple Portal Script works fine.
I have one other problem with the "about me" each time I click on another users "about me" it just goes out to the text editor with a title "changing course - about me"
I think there is something wrong here., any fix??
Also blog posts do not show in recent posts could this be implemented ?
Let me check!
ah I can get it working now, "about me", I think the opening blogs page should have an itemised list of bloggers rather that displaying all the blogs in one hit. I know it can be paged, but I think it would be better navigation wiseif there were a bloggers listing.
mmmm can you add a little example? :P
This is the old Zcommunity Blog
see attachment, as you can see the bloggers are sectioned
see my link to the 40konline blogs for a similar display in different colors. :)
Your index.php?zc show the top user blogs?
it shows a catalog of the user blogs in order of recent posts (per the zCommunity blog system which I am looking to replace)
ok good idea
Would it be possible to make it so a user could designate a given post as "Blog Moderator Viewable Only" or is that kinda too difficult?
and... what could be this moderator?
ok, i just installed adk blog, it works ultimate fine
but when i post,delete something on my blog or save the settings of it on the admin panel it makes the action but doesnt redirect back to the location. it just does the action and leaves the page white...
heres what i mean:
heres a post:
(https://www.simplemachines.org/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg409.imageshack.us%2Fimg409%2F8310%2Fproblema.png&hash=9e186b21f18cf45d9726974641dea70b7e912f9e)
Okay Now I Will Click Delete:
(https://www.simplemachines.org/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg36.imageshack.us%2Fimg36%2F7367%2Fproblem2f.png&hash=ff45ae049e2cf27f70c47bb032b4a718de956250)
The Topic Deletes but the url keeps iek that and the scrren white,
heres what i do to go back to the blog:
(https://www.simplemachines.org/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg823.imageshack.us%2Fimg823%2F5445%2Fproblem3.png&hash=4451a0dd3c74bd12d14be5902b5718211ca0d885)
And that happens every time i make a topic on the blog, configure something on the blog at admin or delete a topic,category
the forums of this mod talks a weird language and they don't reply EVER
so i came here trying my luck so you guys help me :(
anyways, the whole problem is "it doesn't redirect back"
any help please? :'(
Have you made a category?? It will not work without a category. I`ll check it out .... I get a blank screen also after making a post, I notice they or you are using a different theme, could it be that ? should be default theme.

Hi, I was curious is it possible to blog work with pretty URL? something like www.MyForum.com/MyBlogName/
Second Thing: Yesterday, after I Run some maintenance tasks in Pretty URL. blogs link does not work untill I was add this line in .htaccess
after this line # Rules for: actions
RewriteRule ^blogs/?$ ./index.php?action=blogs [L,QSA]
this is just for blogs link
but question from the beginning post stay, will be cool to have pretty url for blog name.
Nice blog mod. I have looking and waiting for this. Last time I remember zCommunity was the best mod for blog. And the post above is just right for making a nicer URL for it. But I prefer username instead of blog name in the pretty urls.
rocknroller, how do I change MyBlogName to username instead? Any idea?
Thank you for this wonderful Mod
This is the french translation, in both ansi and utf8.
And this code is for modifications.french.php and modifications.french-utf8.php
$txt['blogs_principal_title'] = 'Blogs';
$txt['blog_principal_title'] = 'Blog';
$txt['blogs_manage_admin'] = 'Gérer les blogs';
$txt['blogs_link_tree_news'] = 'Actualités';
$txt['blog_settings'] = 'Paramètres';
$txt['adk_another_string'] = 'Mon blog';

I'm not well expressed, i am sorry, don't have much knowledge for that.
I was edit my post before.
sry my english not so well.
There is a problem with the croatian version, you should replace :
$txt['blogs_principal_title'] = 'Blogs';
$txt['blog_principal_title'] = 'Blog';
$txt['blogs_manage_admin'] = 'yönetmek blogs';
$txt['blogs_link_tree_news'] = 'Haber';
$txt['blog_settings'] = 'seçenekleri';
$txt['adk_another_string'] = 'My blog';
in ./Themes/default/languages/Modifications.croatian-utf8.php
with
$txt['blogs_principal_title'] = 'Blogovi';
$txt['blog_principal_title'] = 'Blog';
$txt['blogs_manage_admin'] = 'Uredi blogove';
$txt['blogs_link_tree_news'] = 'Novosti';
$txt['blog_settings'] = 'Postavke';
$txt['adk_another_string'] = 'Moj blog';
Provided by Rocknroller.
I think the biggest problem with the blogs pages, are that you do not know when somebody has posted a blog or made a comment within the blog
Lucas : can you add this to "things to do"

The only problem with that is, that you can only display so many posts in the portal,
the more posts you get, then over a set limit ( in my case 15 thats set in admin)
later posts after an initial 15 are not seen hence only old ones see the light of day, the newer ones are ignored
and i really don`t want a portal with hundreds of blog postings!!
Unless of course its set to show only the latest posts 15 posts ( and I don`t know how to set that .php wise)
Kreator, Look at this... http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=398380.msg2772419#msg2772419
I understand you perfectly... For the next version... I think much better this, and I will add another table, for example.... smf_blog_log, and It save the unread blogs
Thanks Lucas I have that script, but as I said earlier it will only post the limit set in the .php script
$limit = 5;
I set mine to 15 so it will just show the first 15 blog posts, so if any blogsare posted after that limit, they will not show.
Setting it to higher limits is prohibitive!
It might be better to set the script file to take say the latest last 10 posts from the tables ( but I have no idea how to go about that)
Little issue fixed with the block for any portal
V1.0.3, Little issue fixed.
If you want to upgrade to 1.0.3... Only upload The BlogAdminSettings.php file to source folder ;)
I would like to suggest that, users can earn via adsense revenue sharing module, or just put some ads on the smf blog, Or just have a list of top 10 blogs of the month, and A hit counter, so that users can see how many visitors visits their blogs.
wow... talk about bloat. (with the exception of the hit/read counter... which should be possible, since SMF tracks the reading of threads as well)
Can someone point me in the right direction please.
I've installed this mod (into 2.0 RC3, default theme) and the installation appears to be fine.
I assume the mod has settings which can be enabled via SMF admin, but where ? I can see nothing, no menu items, nada .. :(
Help... O:)
Admin --> Configuration --> Manage Blogs
QuoteAdmin --> Configuration --> Manage Blogs
Many thanks, I now have that after maunally checking/amending the files that are updated during install.
I don't think it installed ok even though it said it did.
Still not finished yet though as I've "enabled" blogs in Manage Blogs but I still see nothing after doing so.. :(
Edit: All sorted - Subs.php was not updated correctly at install. All working now :D
Good ;)

I can be more specific which might help a few people.
Basically, I also had "Aeva" and "SMF Articles" installed as mods. These two mods
and Adk Blog all attempt to amend an area in the file Subs.php near this area of code:
'mlist' => array(
Basically I had to manually install those bits as they were clashing.
Hope that helps a few people as it's quite possible others will use those mods in conjunction with Adk Blog ;)
Thanks storman ;)
I'm super excited about this mod, but I can't seem to get it to install correctly. I keep getting errors in the Subs.php. I have only ever had to edit one mod due to errors, so please be gentle!
Here's the error I'm getting:
1. Execute Modification ./Sources/Subs.php Test failed
1. Replace ./Sources/Subs.php Test failed
2. Replace ./Sources/Subs.php Test successful
And I've included a copy of the Subs.php to see what I've done. I've uploaded the edited php to my server, and it still shows up as being in error--so I have to be doing something wrong!
Thanks!
but.... First you must install the mod... and after that, attach the subs.php
This is the Subs.php from after the mod has been installed.
***I think anyways. I mean, I did install it fully and copied off the errors so that I could see what I'd need to modify.
I don't know what is your problem....
The subs.php is well edited....
What is your forum url?
I will set it up on our test forum and bring back a url once I've established the same error there. Forgive me, but I'm trying to do like 10 things at once and forgot to mention that after I upload the edited php, our shout box stops working. So, I guess that might be the bigger problem, but the mod still doesn't seem to work. Let me get it installed again for you so that you can come see what I'm talking about.
ok... awaiting :P
Sorry it took so long to get back to you! I went ahead and installed the mod into our test forum without modifying the file first. It is showing the same errors on our test forum, and the shoutbox is not working. Here's a link to our test forum: http://lettucetalk.org/testforum/index.php
You should be able to register with no problems, and then I'll get you admin permissions if you'd like so that you can see what I'm talking about.
***Just wanted to tell you I'm trying several different things. It seems some conflicting mods are to blame, so our test site is currently down for the time being.
mmmm.... ok but, First you must install the mod, I don't see anyhthing u.u, and It's very difficult to me understand you... because You say me "I have the following errors" and I can't view if you didn't installed any mod :P
Awesome mod, me & my members love it. nice job, lucas :D
I've read in this thread that other people also ask you about a feature: i'm talking about hit counter.
Well, many of my mebers asked me about that and i think for bloggers it's good to know how many visitors they have. I'll appreciate it, if you could add this feature in your next release.
Beside this feature i want to ask you for two other features:
1. A List of Bloggers with their avatars somewhere on the main page of Blogs. So when a user click on the "Blogs" botton can see the five last blogs and somewhere at the left side see a list of bloggers in a block. This way a viewer has the possibility by clicking on the name of a blogger listed in that block to go to the blog page of a certain blogger.
2. An header for each user. Creating categories and "about me" in the blog for each user is very nice. It would be perfect if a user could also make an header for his blog just the way he like. This way a Blog can be something more personal, can have it's own title and logo or what ever a blogger would like to put in there.
I hope i'm not asking to much.
Any way i thank you for this lovely mod

How did you do this?
I have installed it but I don't seem able to gain access to anything, post blog posts etc. Like you I can do so if I include the line after the forum/index.php but that isn't exactly helpful
I am at rugbydungeon.com/forum for those that are wondering

How did you do this?
I added the required code to "Subs.php" manually ;)
To be honest I think the author should amend the install package as many people seem to be having an issue with this area. Nevertheless, I appreciate this is not easy due to the actual area in Subs.php that gets changed.

actually looking at it again my subs/php is fine (went to do it manually but the autoinstall seems to have taken care of it properly)

As as been said - the mod looks great, looking forward to being able to get it to work!
attached!
Great stuff, very useful - thanks for a great mod and thanks for helping with the install!
Three suggestions as to future upgrades that would really help make it useful.
1) a bloggers page (as has been suggested) - providing a list of all bloggers arranged by the number of blog posts they have done
2) a VB style 'last blog post' link in the posters info next to all messages they post (below the avatar for example)
3) a link to 'their blog' (showing all their, and only their, blog posts) either again below the avatar or from their profile
Just a few thoughts on how this excellent mod could be even better!
If you want, you can add it in the bug tracker of smfpersonal ;)
i can't show last of topic for BLog.

Hi there.
I've updated SMF from RC3 to RC4. I've installed ADK Portal & Blog.
At first I've installed the blog. It went well and I could use 'My Blog' and make some new blogs. After installing the Portal, the 'index.php?blog=1' which is the 'My Blog' in the menu, is redirecting to my http://solar-xl.nl/forum/index.php.. So it redirects me to the index, not to My Blog profile..
I will add my sources/Subs.php and ~/index.php because I guess the problems are in these files.
Hopefully I will have the answer soon :)
Regards,

Okay sorry but I have an issue, it seem to have worked great but then I checked my error log, I have pages upon pages of these two errors.
I did install on the default theme.
My site is www.simplyfriends4.us
Here are the two errors
8: Undefined index: blog
File:/home/****/public_html/****/themes/default/languages/Aeva.english.php
(portal_below sub template-eval?)
Line: 41
8: Undefined index: blog
File:/home/****/public_html/****/themes/default/languages/Post.english.php
(portal_below sub template-eval?)
Line: 41
I looked into your manual parse but did not see anything pertaining to those two phps. Please help.
disable/turn off the eval... in 2.0, it's a setting in the smf admin tools, in 1.1.x, there is a mod to turn it off.
The eval statement indicates that the error is occurring in another file although it may be triggered in the file listed.
Okay I did that and now I'm getting this error:
8: Undefined index: blog
File: /home/***/public_html/****/Sources/PortalBlocks.php(3351) : eval()'d code
Line: 41
Edited to add, if I disable the block for blogging there is no error...I used the code from this thread for the simpleportal block.

Actually, i dont understand either but you can multi-select with Ctrl+click or Shift+click in the permisions for blogs.
Maybe this way you can set it the way you want it.
Permissions of blog are not like permisions of smf (i think the re is no inheritance)
Great mod by the way, would get better for me if blog posts were anounced just like posts.
I love the idea! I look forward to getting it out to my users!
A couple of things I noticed that a scan of this thread didn't turn up solutions to:
- I can't change the position of my categories. I type in a different order of positions, click Save, and it just goes back to what it was before.
- When using the WYSIWYG editor, I get "Message body is required". It doesn't happen when not using WYSIWYG. I saw that others were getting this error message but I didn't see a solution.
Again, I love the idea. I hope I can get this working on my forum and maybe integrate it into the rest of the site.
I tried to install it today, but when i klick the button i get this error:

Hi, i just installed this mods in my Test forum that powered with SMF 2.0 RC 4 and i got no idea how to get this mods on. I did found the blog mods in the Mods section and found that there's few different positions and i only allow to choose 1 which were, either Admin , moderator or normal user and so on. SO can i set that all the positions people will have their own blog? Erm, how to set limit that what positions able to post how many blog post?
By the way, even i choose normal user position and i went to create a normal account to test it, i still got no idea where is the mods and how can i open it to write my blog before i post it . Which mean i got no ideas how the mods work as i dunno where is the blog section for me to write the blog and so on.
So , mind to explain? THank you very much ^^

THank you very much ^^

index.php?blog=IDUSER
In that place, you can create categories, topics, etc and manage your OWN blog.
I have a question about .htaccess assigning a virtual directory to replace the userid in the blog url. Anyone know how do to that? LIke instead of index.php?blog=userid to have it come out like mysite.com/blogs/username or mysite.com/username
That feature will be added for SD Seo ;)
hi lucas , i like your mod a lot and it's good addition to any forum
there's a problem tho
i have it working on on of my forums , but not the other
but on the forum in which it doesn't work i have tinyportal installed ,
the links show in menu normally and i see blog and the submenu my blog
but when i click it it directs me to tinyportal home page
any suggestions for fixing it
yep, attach your index.php
i attached the file
i tried adding the blog code manually into it , but it still didn't show
you will find the following code
if (empty($board) && empty($topic) && isset($_REQUEST['blog']))
{
require_once($sourcedir . '/BlogAdminSettings.php');
return 'BlogMain';
}
elseif (empty($board) && empty($topic))
in line 269
try now :)
got me beat how to work this thing, installed it with no problems, activated the settings and still can't work out how this thing works.The permission settings could do with an upgrade as well as you can only select 1 user group.

Is there a working demo for 1.1.x so we can see?
Hi,
I use 2.0 RC4 and I installed this mod maybe...two days ago. I swear it didn't give me any sort of errors when I installed it, and it was fine. Just now, I was trying to do something with the blog and I clicked on "my blog," which brought me to a blank page on my board, basically. So I tried uninstalling it and it told me it might not take out all of the files or something and then I reinstalled it and it told me that it strongly recommended I didn't install it and such. I was just wondering if there was something you could...fix, I guess, because it was working fine, I didn't do anything to it, and then it decided to...not work. Thanks in advance.

url of your site? user demo?
Here (http://creativemusesociety.thecreationcorner.net)'s my site, but at the moment I don't have the mod installed because it gave me that error. This is the error it gives me when I try to install it:
QuoteError in Package Installation
At least one error was encountered during a test installation of this package. It is strongly recommended that you do not continue with installation unless you know what you are doing, and have made a backup very recently. This error may be caused by a conflict between the package you're trying to install and another package you have already installed, an error in the package, a package which requires another package that you don't have installed yet, or a package designed for another version of SMF.
Even though it installed for me fine previously and it worked for about two days and I didn't do anything to change it outside of the settings and do stuff for my own blog. :|

No it is not possible to run this on 1.1.12, currently.

Plus you will get more and more awesome mods ;D

Under the button "Blogs".
If you have a theme that does not support sub-buttons...well...
I got my buttons showing. Viewing blog listings work fine. I got a problem when trying to view a blog or create a new blog entry. All the pages redirect to my dream-portal homepage showing all the blog content below all the portal information.

Backporting is quite a heavy task for a mod like this so expect to wait a few weeks ::)
I really hope that it will be possible at least in one month because I really need a blog like this on our forum so that each member can post and decide who can read it.
Awesome mod. Works like a charm.
Does anyone know what edits I need to make to add a link to someone's Blogs in their Ultimate Profile?
Also, can I make my portal display new blogs in a block?

when i added this mod, error free, when you clicked on the blog page, it said "this user has no blogs, even when i set the permissions, there still was no place to start a blog or even set up a blog, very confusing for a user.
KingKingston: Make a Category first, then make a post into that category and your good to go!
Still no seperate users I notice, all the blogs are still in one big scroll down!
It would be so nice to see seperate bloggers in a blog view.
Exactly ;)

where do you make the category though ?, there's no such setting in the blog settings
ok sorted it out, oh and on the right on Messages in the profile on the blog, it should be posts.Also if anyones wondering how to set permissions for all groups, i think it works if you highlight all the groups so use the control key and click on the groups you want.This setting should be made easier than having to do this.
I installed a new forum (RC4) just to test out this MOD... I installed it and it gave me no error. Then I go ahead and start looking for any settings and I couldn't find any...
I searched in the administration for "blog" and it said "no results"... so I tried to uninstall the MOD and it gave me a LOT of error (every file but the languages files).
Any idea why? It's something that I did wrong or what?
I had the same problem: the word "blog" doesn't appear in the menu. After several installs and uninstalls I managed to get it there, but it disappeared right after I changed the permissions for different groups.
And it still doesn't work. When I click the tab "Blogs", I get an error message saying: "This user don't have topics still"
I have found only two blog mods for SMF, and the other one is ridicilous, so I'd really like to get this one running.
Oh and btw, the error message should say "This user doesn't have any topics yet". I can edit that text myself, but maybe it should be corrected in the next update too?
All this time, and an update, and the problem still exists on a clean RC5 installation. Moving on...

Just wanted to ask again when will you upgrade this blog for the version 1.1.12?
Just recently upgraded to RC5. Installed the Blog mod and added the customer PHP block to my simple portal. However, the block displays no information.

Else probably this mod needs some tweaking.

ERROR:
Message body is required
I had title: "Hello World!"
and body: "Hello World!"
just to see if it worked, i get that error.
the same here...
ah ok, I have to disable the wsyc editor. I think this blog and this portal need an update...
@ Lotti: The adk team is doing their best to provide quality software, that the wysiwyg editor doesn't work can happen all the time ;)
However that's something that needs to be fixed, I'll bug them with it after school :)
Managed to contact the hosts regarding the problem I had.
As for the WYSIWYG I'm lucky in that respect as I don't allow it to be used on MKA as I personally can't stand it.
Some help with that please ?

OK nice. I dont get any errors now.
Can i ask one more thing ?
How can i make the member avatar in this block keep the same proportions and not change and be like square ?
I try to delete the $width and $height but then i get errors again.
Thank you very very much.
Just want to know if you are going to upgrade this blog for SMF version 1.1.13 I really need a blog like this for my site and I can see that it is possible to have it in Russian as well and it is a great news. Are you planning to upgrade it soon?
Have you tried to emulate the version?
What do you mean by that?
Below the mods list is a link which says advanced.
When you click there there should be a box asking which forum version you want to emulate to.
Ya may want to try the search feature on the forum too.
This has been covered numerous times.
Brack, that advanced feature is only for 2.0
That's why I asked if it is possible to add this blog for 1.1.13 version...
no... look at the download page. This mod was developed only for the 2.0 series and I believe that Lukas has indicates that he has no intentions to port it back to 1.1.x

Oops my apologies.
I haven't used 1.1.x since the days of 1.1.8
Oh so pity, wish I could use 2.0 version of SMF
why can't you?
I am still waiting an answer for my question below:

Also i just see that if i am going to change About Me nothing is saved and the old About Me is still displayed.
Have you see that before ?
Thank you.
@Yngwiedis
Please try and be more patient.
I would help but I aint got a clue.
As for the About Me you mention I haven't even looked at that part.
My guess is that About Me table in the database cant be editable if already exist.
You can only edit it the first time only.
I am just trying to give any help i can...
Ah so ya mean after the About me has already been filled in?
I just referred people to my actual profile (ultimate profile mod) rather than fill it all in again.

Yes. You cant edit About Me again. Is not saved and is showing everything was there before you edit it.

How you do that ? You disable About Me page ?
No.
On the about me page I just typed in the message I mentioned previously.
OK. I get it...
Can you check if you can edit About Me page so i see if something from my end or something with the mod in general ?
Already done.
I added some extra text as a test and saved.
The previous text plus the added testing text were both present.
So something is wrong from my end...
Hmmm.... can you tell me the options of your blog_about_me field inside smf_members table ?
I wouldn't know where to look for it.

I uninstall and install the mod again. Same problem. About Me page is not get written in database...

well, first of all, you have to stop it from eval - in 2.0, there is a setting/checkbox to stop that

The box is already ticked Kindred.
:)
well, it looks like your portal is not respecting the "disable eval".
Without that, it is difficult to know where the ACTUAL error is happening.
in your portal block, are you calling any variables named "blog"? (e.g. $txt['blog'], $modsettings['blog'], $blog)?
I'd have to have a look.

Computers do not learn through repetition... Doing the same action is going to have the same result.
If you have an error, you either need to work to fix the error or uninstall and give up.
What ?
I dont understand anything...
You suggest me to remove the mod because is not working ?
I was thinking DB as well, but I wanted to come to the source and see if there was a quick fix for it and what suggestions he/she has.

But again the About Me page is not updated...

Disable the WYSIWIG EDITOR
Hello...
You are right.
With WYSIWIG editor disabled the About Me page is working.
But i want to have the WYSIWIG editor enabled.
Can we do anything about that and make the mod compatible with WYSIWIG editor ?
Thank you very very much.
For the moment, when you try to use the editor.... please make a doble click on the button (https://www.simplemachines.org/community/Themes/default/images/bbc/toggle.gif)...
OK.

Letme test.
I think that error is in your theme.... maybe your theme is not totally update to 2.0 GOld
Hello, went through all 18 pages with no success. Saw it mentioned in some earlier posts, but no real answers.
Did any updates come out since the first couple of pages that allowed this mod to support a separate page from the blogs page that listed all the blogs? Right now, I am using smf articles to somewhat do the same thing, but it's lacking features this mod has. I would like to use this mod, but it's lacking certain features also.
Here is the link to smf articles for example. It is the third picture.
Basically want a page that lists all of the blogs.

I'm using smf 2.0 RC5. Should I update to 2.0 Gold before trying again?
Exactly
Hi,
First off, I just want to say great mod! I'm not a blogger myself but my forum members seem to love the new feature.
Second, I was hoping I could ask if it possible to include recent blog posts in the list of recent posts so members can see when each other has posted a new entry? Either that or could you make it so the "Blogs" option along the navbar displays a number when a new one has been added, kind of like with personal messages. For example, 1 new blog post would say "Blogs (1)", 2 would say "Blogs (2)" etc etc
I love this SMF mod and this is the only thing I can think of that it is lacking on.
Thanks!

It's strange that it isn't showing up for you. All I had to do was simply install it and it's working fine. Could it be that you didn't select "check" the box corresponding to the theme you are running on the forum so it installs it with that theme?

did you add the correct translate to this mod?

Is this compatible with the Helios Multi theme? I would really love to get this working! I'm using 2.0, and my theme does not support sub-menus. Is there a way to get this working?
Thanks in advance.
I don't test with that theme... but i think you'll not have any problem ;)
Even if it doesn't have the submenus in the nav? It seems like that's a big part of the functionality
you simply click the button that is supposed to have the submenu and you will see the subs in the top of the content.. i dont know if you understood me.

Right.
ajam, if anyone uses Helios themes.... can attach the Subs.php and I'll add the button in your menu.
PD: Sorry for my english ::)
Lucas,
You missed my point. The sub menus can be in subs.pho all tha you want. You could list 100 of them... Te Helios template files do not display them.
I will add the button to the right of that button and not like a submenu.
lucas, do you mind to tell me what is your "main" language? always wondered.
french? Chinese? and your English is.. fine because i can understand it.
My native language is spanish. :D
*Still waiting patiently for a question to be answered*
Oddly enough I cannot find a subs.php for my theme...I really can't. Would it be found under the helios theme or "default"? Sorry for my ignorance.
Search in the "Sources" folder...
Sources/Subs.php
Found it. Here's my subs.php
Thank you vicram

I had already left a screenshot of what the problem was in my first post regarding this.
The url is in my mka signature.
That worked like a charm! Thanks! I have one more question. Can we get a button that will show up on "Ultimate Profiles"? Our forum uses Ultimate Profile, and I'd love for users to be able to go to someone's blog through their profile. Thanks! :)
Greetings!
The first picture - the category is empty, the error is produced.
The second picture - in a category is record, the error isn't present, all is correctly deduced.
By the way - wanted to ask, it is possible as that to implement function "to read more"? At the big records in blogs the list of records turns out too long.

Thats the biggest problem with this mod, and why I have reluctantly had to remove it from my site, and now using "smf blog" even though it uses boards
someone really should look at Charles Hill`s "ZCommunity" and implement that on SMF Gold 2.0 then a good blogging system will be available.
Would love to have this but have many problems using it see attachment. Also would be nice if the title could be changed from Blog in the button to a prefered title. Looks great just need functions fixed. Also See the attachment with the error for ADK portal installation. My version of SMF is 2.0 Any help will be appreciated.
Test failed means a maual edit is necessary.
Could be a conflict with another mod.
Got Cha! But the only thing I have is Google Plus 1 installed.

OK Thanks
Got the ADK blog installed and it seems to be working well. Like it but would loke to change the button title and dropdown menu title. Is that possible and which template would I do it from?
Well This mod requires too much editing on the PHP scripts. Install failed. I just won't sit here and edit some one else scripts. Any ideas on when a update can be made so I won't have to edit the pages.
Well I tried to install this the hard way. I couldn't find out what to do about this one tag.
FIND
if (empty($board) && empty($topic)) //This tag missing or all ready used
REPLACE WITH
if (empty($board) && empty($topic) && isset($_REQUEST['blog']))
{
require_once($sourcedir . '/BlogAdminSettings.php');
return 'BlogMain';
}
elseif (empty($board) && empty($topic))
I think one of my other mods is using the FIND tag and well I couldn't under stand where to put this in at. it goes into the index.php in the root folder. Can some one tell me where to add this is at.
All so it seems to be working. How ever how do I start a blog. I don't see an option for me to create or add for my blog
Kindred, How do I get the topics in ADK Blog to show in the ADK Portal last post in the center page. Also will there be a live news version coming anytime soon similar to myspace and facebook. I guess what I'm getting at is a social plug-in. All mods are running and working well. Thanks.
Please tell me how you enable this mod.

It's in your admin panel. There should be a setting option called "Manage blogs." If you go in there, you can enable it.
I would like to know if each user can choose who can visit their blog?

Hey, some of my users are reporting error messages with the blogs.
They keep getting the message "Message body is required" even when there is text in the text area and they have first created a category to post in.
Any ideas?

This should work fine. I have the blog and when a category is created and a topic is created in that category with information in the body section, things should work. Maybe something didn't happen durning installation or another mod may be preventing it from installing correctly.

Some of my members have no problems with submitting blogs but for others it comes up with that error message.
I know it's not another mod that's interfering with it because I had installed it previously with the same mods I have installed on the forum now. I had to uninstall it for reasons I won't go into, but reinstalled it again later and some of my users are reporting this new error, even if the message body has text in and they have created a category first.
What I'd like to know is if anybody has received this error message aswell and if so, what they did to solve the problem?

I don't know what to tell you but if some have no problem and some do, sounds like a user problem. Don't hold me to that cause it could be something a SMF specialists need to tackle. Have had no problems with my installation or usage.

I thought that as well at first, but we've tried absolutely everything to try and determine what the problem is but no matter what we do (different browsers/settings etc), it still comes up with the error.
there used to be a problem with posts... if BBC or HTML codes were the first contents of the post, it would give that sort of error.
Does the "message empty" error happen all the time?

Like I said, it's fine for me (I've never had the error message), but some users are reporting that no matter what they type in the box it says "message body required." That is, all the time.
EDIT: I found out what was causing the error message. Some users had the WYSIWYG editor turned 'on' by default and when using it the blogs don't seem to recognise any text that is input. By using the non-WYSIWYG editor, they don't get the error message. Just in case anyone else receives the same error, just switch off your WYSIWYG or don't use it for the blogs.

Been through this entire thread and not a single person has answered the question about adding a link to the user's blog from their profile...... this is REALLY important, I'm going to get my trusty developer to write a custom for it and then post it here for everyone else... one problem is that he barely has any free time so we might be waiting till next week..... :/
If ANYONE has a bit of code that links the blog to within user's profiles (or Ultimate Profiles..) then PLEASE post...

How can I move the "Blogs" (and "My Blog") buttons to be listed under the "Profile" button's dropdown menu?
Thanks, :)
Jason
Updated to SMF 2.0.1 ;)
Regards enik...
Have updated the mod to 2.0.1
However I fail to understand why the blog database is automatically uninstalled.
Surely the database should be left so we (the users) don't have any blogs lost?
Imagine if a forum was have have a lot of blogging members whom lost their blogs due to an upgrade.
I would imagine the forums would lose members because of this.
There are still a few improvements which could be made to the mod.
One I might suggest is a number next to the blog menu tab when a new blog appears.

Use the parser. The file you want is subs.php
I used parser. Then i noticed a code missed in my subs.php which is before the line
"Allow editing menu buttons easily". Then i added the code and got errors in my forum. So i stopped using adk blog.
I hope the upcoming version of this mod can solve these problems.
Thanking you.
Hi, my theme does not allow sub-menus like one of the other users who posted earlier in this thread. I downloaded the revised subs.php you posted and tried to use it, but it threw an error when I clicked on the 'My Blogs' button at the top of the nav bar.
Fatal error: require_once() [function.require]: Failed opening required '/hermes/web06/b2988/pow.nicholascollacom/htdocs/swtor/forum/Sources/Aeva-Embed.php' (include_path='.:/usr/local/lib/php-5.2.17/lib/php') in /hermes/web06/b2988/pow.nicholascollacom/htdocs/swtor/forum/Sources/Subs.php on line 2460
Can you advise if I need to make further modifications to that subs.php or if I should use my original file and make a different change to it?
Thanks,
Kilnik
Ok, so I fixed the problem of no drop-down menu by adding the "my blog" button to the menu bar.
However, a new problem has presented itself. The alignment of the blog page is all skewed to the right, shown below:
(https://www.simplemachines.org/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi219.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fcc35%2Fodeos%2Fle%2520links%2FadkBlog.png&hash=9f7a2d82168c4b21d641994e41a9db56fe409901)
The avatar is shown twice, all the navigation is off to the side, etc. There's probably a conflict with the theme, can anyone advise?

this works with the default theme, so ask the one that made your custom one.
Is there a way to get the blogs to list like the blogs on your site with title, date and author? Mine are all coming up with just the title with the entire post under it and the authors avatar on the right.
Would very much like to see this list more like zcommunity where you can click on an authors blog then read all of their blog posts.
The way it is now everything is all mixed up and posts get buried with no way to go to an individual blog. My members are not liking this at all.
Sorry for not to be here... I don't have so much time....
Await for Adk blog 3.0 is coming soon.... any question, please make a new reply, I promess response every reply.
Thanks for understand me
Hello, the blogs aren't working. Two links should make it pretty obvious:
http://fantasticaentertainment.com/blogs/
http://fantasticaentertainment.com/index.php?blog=12;sa=topic;id=2
The second link is supposed to be a blog's page. Is this because I have Pretty URLs installed?
the error log say something?
There are quite a lot of errors in the error log, everything from a user providing an incorrect password to code not working in posts... which category would this be in?
you can check errors From Blog files...
Where do I do so? There is no blog category in the Error Log for me...
So, you'll answer ANY question, you say? Great, may I please see an answer to one that was asked a while ago in this thread? :)
In the attached image, as you can see, I have a problem with avatar sizes with this blog system. They always show up their actual size, and not a resized version.
I would just like to know what I'd change to fix this, as it's a real eye-sore.
Also, as a secondary question, may you please tell me what I would change to make the blog icon on user's posts visible to everyone? Say, I have a user with a blog, that makes anyone else unable to view their blog because they have no way to get there due to only being able to see their own icons. And I am going to be honest, the fact I am an admin, and can only see my blog, is irritating. I hope I am not coming off as rude, or anything; I am certainly not trying to. Anyways, I look forward to answers. Thanks! :)
I have similar problem.
For some unknown reason, blog icon (easymoblog.png) can't be seen on post profiles except for few members.
Is there a way to fix that or maybe to make something like custom field with icon?
Thanks in advance, and sorry for my English :)
edit: solved. Problem was with messaging icons, so if member doesn't activate any of them, blog icon can't be shown
I made some changes in Display.template.php
// This shows the popular messaging icons.
if ($message['member']['has_messenger'] && $message['member']['can_view_profile'])

Await for Adk blog 3.0 is coming soon.... any question, please make a new reply, I promess response every reply.
Thanks for understand me
Yeah, your empty promise is getting pretty annoying. You seem to want to dodge almost every important problem someone presents as of late, for only lord knows why, and leave people hanging(remember Brack1 with his question about avatars?). Now you
promise to answer every question asked, yet nothing. I know you're busy, trust me, but at least tell the truth about being too busy instead of making empty promises.
Anyways, in the off-chance you do answer my other question about avatars, I have another:
What is the exact code/action/whatever to add to a button that takes people to their own blog? Please, just answer that AND the avatar question I had. You really have no idea how much this would all help, especially when my personal programmer is so busy lately. Thanks!
please help me out, i don't know how to add a new topic to the blog
Hi Coolestman :)
This topic is about ADK Blog, but it's not the blog you have. If I have seen correctly, you have SMF Blog, so try to ask for help in this topic http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=170526.0
Installed Adk blog on testforum for 2.0.2. I've got a rather strange error in the errorlogm which comes whenever someone goes into forum or index. Forum is with Tinyportal (so did a manual parse in the index.php). The blog works, but the error is annoiyng..
8: Undefined index: blog
File: xxx/Themes/default/languages/Post.english.php (tp_below sub template - eval?)
Line: 39
Cant understand why it's says Post.english.php ??
Help for getting rid of this errror appreciated.

Regards,
Hello. I was wanting a blogging system for my site and ran across this mod. I installed it, and because of a significant amount of mods on my site had to hand edit the menu buttons in to my subs.php. Got all that done. The menu button and submenu button were showing, had the blogs enabled, and set permissions. I then tried to go to my blog to try out making a post and had the above issue. I'm running smf 2.0.2 with ezportal. I'm sure it's a related problem. After the issue I uninstalled the mod and switched to smfblog, but I don't really like it, it's nothing like having a real blogging system for your users. Could someone please just post what the fix is for this so I can make the changes myself when installing the mod.
ok i feel noob now
I have SMF 2.0 RC4 but i managed to install it and seems to work.
But the only message i get at ?action=blogs is "This user don't have topics still"
How i make a new blog? :o
ok i get it, submenu is not vissible
how i fix that?
Hi there,
Is there a way to have pretty urls (with pretty urls mod installed) for forum blogs links?
f.e.
http://www.somesite.com/forum/blogs/
http://www.somesite.com/forum/blogs/somemember/
etc.
Updated to 2.0.2

Second, I was hoping I could ask if it possible to include recent blog posts in the list of recent posts so members can see when each other has posted a new entry? Either that or could you make it so the "Blogs" option along the navbar displays a number when a new one has been added, kind of like with personal messages. For example, 1 new blog post would say "Blogs (1)", 2 would say "Blogs (2)" etc etc
I love this SMF mod and this is the only thing I can think of that it is lacking on.
Thanks!
Pity there was no reply to this yet...
I´d like to use a blog-functionality but haven´t understood yet how and what "blocks" are or whether Id have to install simpleportal or sth like that to get recent posts/topics or recent blog-posts seen...
That number-thingy as text next to "blogs", i don´t think it´s hard to code, is it? Promise I´ll check out and try to get into portal-blocks-thingy but the other thing would be sufficient...
Thanks and n8! :)
ok... I have installed this (along with nearly a hundred other mods, to test the robustness of the system)
I see several people have reported the same error, but have yet to find any evidence of how to FIX the problem (some people reported "I fixed it" but they don't say HOW)
mysite/index.php?action=blogs
reports
This user don't have topics still
BTW: It was reported last year and still has not been corrected. This message is not correct in English - it should read
"This user does not have any blog(s) yet"
Attempting to go to
mysite/index.php?blog=1
causes the front page of the portal to load...
there does not appear to be ANY way to actually enter a blog, and thus no way to get to the actual blogs page...
(nothing in the error log)

Same with me :(
I tried to parse it (index file) manually but error was still there, so I gave up.
learn to use the wiki and/or search?
http://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/Error_in_mod_installation
Manually applying the mod means making the edits manually, where the errors show... doing that won't make the errors go away, you then just apply the mod in spite of the errors, since you will have manually made the failed auto-changes.
Maybe I wasn't clear enough. I know how all that things work, and I also know what to do in such situations.
I did everything I could and should but installation failed anyway. Error is somewhere in ./index.php part of the mod.
YES the installation will fail!
INSTALL IT ANYWAY!
then make the missing/failed edits by hand.
OMG! :o
I DID! And manually edited corrupted files. And IT DIDN'T WORK how should I spell it?
I know my English is bad, but is it that bad that you don't understand what I'm writing about?
Once more - I tried the automatic installation and index file showed error. So I edited manually that file AFTER installation and still nothing

there used to be a problem with posts... if BBC or HTML codes were the first contents of the post, it would give that sort of error.
As of 02/21/2012 this error continues as after I installed the blog, created a category and attempted to save my first post I recieved this error, but it will go away if you turn off your WYSIWYG or don't use it for the blogs.

Okay....here's the deal.
I uninstalled 2.0. Been using it with no issues on 3 active sites for quite some time.
I INSTALLED 3.0. through package manager. No issues...no errors...everything went fine.
Went to admin, ENABLED the mod...set everything up as I have a million times before....and when I click on "Blogs" in the main menu...I get:
"An Error Has Occurred!
This Module is not active"
The module...IS active. There is no doubt. This is happening on 3 separate sites.
Further, when I click on My Blog....(the one that allegedly isn't active, remember?)...
wow...messed up! Everything is flushed to the left side and it tells me I don't have topics when I do. Errors abound, man! This is not good.
Please see screenshot of mod that ERROR says isn't active, but yet IS active, but is totally messed up:
(https://www.simplemachines.org/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.80scafe.net%2Fblogscrewd.jpg&hash=29f0037132c08526f9b6db30b7c00aeeafebfccb)
Any suggestions....or should I just scrap the blogs for my members on 3 separate sites and tell them all their blog topics for the past year are hopelessly lost?

The 3.0 version may have too many code changes for it to still be "compatible" with Simple Portal.
hmmm... 3.0 actually worked fine for me using the EZPortal... (I had some issues with the 2.0 which seem to have been fixed with 3.0)

EzPortal is different from SimplePortal ;)
I guess Simple Portal even is more forum-wide then EzPortal is.
I could be wrong thinking SimplePortal is the cause, though, but it looks the most obvious to me.

Not to say that Adk isn't one good mod, though, it offers options Simple Portal doesn't and it's the other way around, too :)
David... the module is probably not active because... no user of your site has any topic in their blogs
The mod works fine with some portals (adk, sp, ez, tp). With the other portals... maybe it will require an adaptation
ah... I discovered an issue with EZPortal as well..
// EzPortal main page
if ($ezpSettings['ezp_portal_enable'] == 1 && empty($board) && empty($topic) && !isset($_REQUEST['blog']))
{
require_once($sourcedir . '/EzPortal2.php');
return 'EzPortalForumHomePage';
}
// Action and board are both empty but blog is called... BLOG!
elseif (empty($board) && empty($topic) && isset($_REQUEST['blog']))
{
require_once($sourcedir . '/BlogAdminSettings.php');
return 'BlogMain';
}
// Action and board are both empty... BoardIndex!
elseif (empty($board) && empty($topic))
{
require_once($sourcedir . '/BoardIndex.php');
return 'BoardIndex';
}
note the addition of the "is it a blog" check to the ezportal homepage view...
&& !isset($_REQUEST['blog'])
and the change of the blog check to elseif instead of if
additionally, it seems that EZPortal (and I suspect others) does not respect the addition of mod actions other than the ones made by the same author (and thus hard coded)
I have found the table which controls the list of visible actions, but I have been (so far) unable to make it stop displaying the extra columns which I want turned off.

To address the above....no user can CREATE a blog because it says it's inactive. Also. this mod is on 2 other sites which HAD blogs....and now they're not accessable. All are running SP. I've been using the mod for a very long time with SP with no issues until now. Also...the formatting issue remains on all sites. The blogs RIGHT-SIDE blocks are all flushed to the extreme left (see screenshot, previous post)...and the formatting is way off.
However...when I uninstall the 3.0 version and re-install 2.0 version of the mod...there are no issues.
Love this mod. I hope we can use it once again.

Would that explain some of the things I'm seeing as well? Perhaps the way it's wrapping is due to a conflict with the portal and the way IT wraps as well? I'm not PHP savvy as you are, I think. I know a lot...but...not as much as I would like to.

yes, sdd... I suspect that any portal which is not designed with the blog in mind will have the same problem that I noted for ezportal.
Yes, david... there could be problems wrapping this inside the portal. As I said, ezportal seems to ignore that the blog is a spearate action and displays it with the modules defined for the portal homepage.

2.0 of this mod works flawlessly with SP. Would there be any reason why I couldn't continue using 2.0 until this stuff is resolved... or is that not such a good idea?

hmmm.... upgraded to 3.0 and now I am getting the dreaded "Unable to load the 'main' template." message when I try to view the blog...
edit - figured it out... the upgrade does NOT remove the old 'blogs' line in the index.php action array.... Apparently that is no longer used in 3.0 and so needs to be removed if you are upgrading.
ammm you mean.. the blog is loading:
'blogs' => array('BlogAdminSettings.php','AllBlogsList'),
from Adk blog 2.0?
I think it's replaced with the hooks... because it uses the same array value: 'blogs'
yes... the 3.0 version uses hooks, but the upgrade did not remove that line from index.php
When I try to create a new blog post it says "An Error has occurred! Message body is required" Even though I typed in the message body. I even went back and put more in the body thinking I maybe didn't put enough? I also tried to write in the About Me section & it said I didn't' have any topics still. Everything passed the tests in the install. I just started playing around with SMF 2.0.2 (my current forum is 1.1.16) so this is a test forum that I just installed last night & only has this, Simple Portal & Email Template Editor on it.

If I go to profile->blog it takes me to domain.com/index.php?blog=1 which actually displays domain.com/index.php which is the front page of the EZportal system. Yes I have been reading(I actually like to figure things out for myself first I know an odd concept but a fact none the less~) it said if you got error was because you didn't have a blog yet so I went to create a blog but after hitting the blog link in my profile it displays the front page not a blog entry page.
Which is why I asked about it and the fact I am not understanding what exactly what this post is meaning-> http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=398380.msg3281374#msg3281374~
Hi,
I want to change the position of the "Blog" button on my menu bar. I want it to be right after "Home" button. I look in /subs.php but can't find the "blog" menu to edit.
Please advise.

no, in the forums, like a topic or reply (in the mini profile)
Like:
Posts: 300
Gender: **female image**
Blog: 1 (and this will be clickable)
will this be considered? it doesn't have to be a feature added, if it can simply be added in by a few edits....
Well, personally I wouldn't do it.
Why? It requires an extra query for every user in the topic. If you have 25 users on a page that's 25 extra queries. If you have 50 users on a page that's a whopping 50 extra queries.
it would be okay for my forum, because it's a test forum and no one but me posts *shrugs*

I notice that search engine bots are causing this error.
Can one of you attach said file in your next post, please?

I'm not sure how to attach file here but if you unzip the mod ADK Blog 3.0, you can view the Subs-adkblog.php
Line 61 and 63 is causing error.
we have the mod installed, does not seem to be working correctly. we were going to uninstall but got this error message

you must manually uninstall from those files
Hi guy,
I've just installed it, on a test forum, fortunately.
Issues:
Not installed on the core theme
It only appears in English and I need it in Spanish. How to change it?
Any hint please, thank you.

As tsis_k said, tones of errors every day on lines 61 and 63 and I just can't figure what's causing them :-\

I am still having an issue getting this working properly with the EZportal system. I really don't know what I am to do to make this mod work?
TYIA~
bug vbgamer... the problem is on the portal side
I would like to install this MOD, but SMF 2.0.2 report an error in ./index.php
Analyzing the problem I see is not found:
if (empty($board) && empty($topic))
because the TinyPortal MOD modify it like this:
elseif (empty($board) && empty($topic) && $settings['TPortal_front_type']=='boardindex')
Any suggestions for have both MOD working together ?
The solution, in case someone else was interested, was add manualy on ../index.php the following code in the above elseif conditions before run the BlogFeatures.php
&& !isset($_REQUEST['blog'])
Next step was add this code in BlogFeatures.php:
//Hide some TP panels
tp_hidebars('right');
tp_hidebars('center');
Yes, I am getting thousands and thousands of these errors from ADK Blog :-[
It's not critical, but it made me uninstall ADK Blog until it's fixed.
See attachment. I'm on page 29 of my error log and every error is this problem.
pols 1337
attach your index.php
I get the same errors, scatter amongst different files - but almost all are related to the blog
i think... you has not modified the index.php file... you need to add checkNotify() function
PD: Sorry, but i had a very difficult month with the university and my work. I didn't have so much time, i think i'm gonna have it ;)

Billy... attach your index.php too.

mmm billuy open your Subs-adkblog.php and find

and add after
if(empty($context['notify']))
$context['notify'] = array(false, 0);
@lucas roroken
Will you be able to implement 'attach a picture' to ADK Blog? Right now, it uses bbcode which my members hate (and therefore, no one uses ADK Blog :-[). Can you offer a button to attach a picture, like a regular forum post. Or a batch upload function for ADK Blog?
Use a gallery mod and bbc... That's what we do
Ya, that's a possible workaround of which I am aware. But it would be much more efficient if users could upload pictures and media directly to the blog, instead of uploading it somewhere else, copying the link, coming back to ADK Blog, and using the bbcode tag.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!! It worked like a charm! :D
And there is another problem now :(( Omg..
All members are receiving mail notifications about every topic where they have been posting
but... posting in the blog on in your forum?
No, not just in the blog but in every topic.
Whenever someone reply in any topic where I have recently replyed, I receive mail notification about that reply. But I didn't change any option in profile to receive such notifications. In a few hours many users told me that thay have a same problem. :-\
mmm the error log say something? it's rare...
Interesting, but error log is empty ???
I thought the problem was solved, until members started to complain because they couldn't turn off mail notifications about topics where they have been posting. Than I removed the code you gave me and everything gone back to normal.
But now, old problem with Subs-adkblog.php on lines 61 and 63 is back ::)
actually, I was just notified that we have a similar problem on 40Konline.
After adding that code, all users are notified by email for posting in ANY thread (this includes messages outside the blog)

Hi lttung, which module are you trying to access? Are you trying to access the blog?
Yes, in Admin control panel, select Active Blog
In index page, click Menu Blog, but error: This Module is not active
Its not working with Sqlite database. Is there any easy fix?
Hi. Firstly, I really like this blog system. I do agree with people that being able to directly attach pictures would be great, but I am also using Gallery in tandem right now.
Also, is there any way for someone to subscribe to a persons blog, to get a notification when a new blog post is made?
Thanks.

No problem. Just a word of advice, if I may?
If you ever do upgrade...make sure that you back up the blog database in SQL first, because when you uninstall 2.0... it totally deletes your members' blogs from the database....and then everyone has to start over. It's ugly. Other than that... 2.0 is fairly stable.

Hello Gaza07,
I don't really understand your issue, can you please provide a live demo of this occuring, if it doesn't happen in the admin panel?
I could pm you a test account on my forum and if you click the blog button you will see it says its not active, and if you select my blog the screen is well messed up :o

Thats the link to my forum you can see the blog button as a guest and it will show the error but you cant see the my blog bit unless you login
Do a search... We have posted the code changes needed to make his work with portals, as far as the inactive thing goes... However, no one has come up with a fix for the stupid display problem with the blog appearing under the portal....
And no one has fixed the notify error yet. The fix given failed.
Well I have cured my adk blog problems, I have uninstalled it ::)
Thanks for the help and advise but it just seems like to much trouble for what it is and there just isnt a proper working fix :(

Yer mate, could you attach it please.
First and foremost thanks for a really nice plugin. I have been trying this on a testforum for a few days and I basically only have one thing I would like to see added to this >Attachments<
I've been poking around in the code a little bit but I don't really have a clue of what I'm doing, is it even possible to add an attachments feature to this blog system?
If so, please let me know.
Thanks again!
I'm not absolutely certain that this is the right place, so apologies if it's not, and I'll post it elsewhere if someone can provide me with a suitable link.
I've noticed on a couple of different SMF forums which use this mod that if a user doesn't have a personal blog, when you click on my blog, it says:
QuoteThis user don't have topics still
This is clearly a translation error. The translation should be 'this user doesn't have any topics yet' or 'this user hasn't posted any topics yet'.

Lukas,
As I noted a few weeks ago - this edit causes EVERY user to be notified of EVERY thread they have ever posted in. This trashes my system, floods in-boxes, and is, in general, undesirable....
Any better solution?
I've got a problem with this mod.
I can't uninstall this mod manually. Everything goes fine, and then there is an issue with Subs:
08: Undefined index: adk_another_string
File: /home/melvar/forum/Sources/Subs.php
Line: 4138, 4133
I replace this:
//Blog Button - Adk Portal Customizers
$current_action = isset($_REQUEST['blog']) ? 'blogs' : 'home';
if (isset($context['menu_buttons'][$context['current_action']]))
With this:
if (isset($context['menu_buttons'][$context['current_action']]))
But there is also this:
'blogs' => array(
'title' => $txt['blogs_principal_title'],
'href' => $scripturl . '?action=blogs',
'show' => ($context['user']['is_guest'] && in_array(-1,explode(',',$modSettings['blog_allowed_toview'])) && !empty($modSettings['blog_enable'])) ? true : (!$context['user']['is_guest'] && in_array($user_info['groups'][0],explode(',',$modSettings['blog_allowed_toview'])) && !empty($modSettings['blog_enable'])) ? true : false,
'sub_buttons' => array(
'mlist_view' => array(
'title' => $txt['adk_another_string'],
'href' => $scripturl . '?blog='.$user_info['id'],
'show' => in_array($user_info['groups'][0],explode(',',$modSettings['blog_allowed_your_blog'])) ? true : false,
),
),
),
I remove everything and there is a server error :(
Here is the oroginal Subs file from my server with no changes. Could anyone look into it?
ARGH!!!!!!
Do **ANY** of the ADK team even bother to support his mod any more?
The undefined 'notify' issue is HUGE now... I am getting, literally thousands of errors dropped into my log every week form this stupid thing. If there were ANY other blog mod, I would have switched, because support for this mod is apparently non-existent and ADK has no interest in helping to solve the issues with their mod.
I've seen an occasional post from lucas... but nothing in the least bit helpful in over 2 months.

Doesn't seem like it, i had to uninstall this crap and hook into a wordpress system instead. Works great but you can never get the look and feel to match.
Is it right I can only give permissions to the regular usergroups and not to postcount membergroups ?
At least I can't find the options to set the permissions for postcount groups.
In my errorlog I have a lot of errors, they are all generated by guest visits.
There are no errors from registrated users.
What can cause this ?

Oke, I think you'll have to warn people for such a thing at the download page.
When I was informed about it I hadn't installed it. I hadn't even downloaded it.
I have reported the MOD as unsafe now to prevent more members running in troubles.
It would also be helpful, if at any stage any of the team responsible for maintaining this, could look at the translation issue (http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=398380.msg3391319#msg3391319) that I mentioned previously.
well, I would hardly call the errors UNSAFE, so I think that reporting it was a bit of an overreaction.
so it drops undefined errors into your log... annoying, yes... unsafe, no.
Also, it's not my place to warn people... it would be people's responsibility to research any mod they plan to install (plus, I can't modify the mod page, since I didn't place the mod)
I'm going to do another review of this today, it is causing way too much trouble.
How much would it cost to have this converted to work for SMF 1.x ?
I installed this recently, but I keep getting this error message. Who can I pay to fix this?
Error in ADKBlog.
There is an error constantly showing up in my log, which I think is related to guests browsing blogs

I think it was pretty clear that I was asking "Who can I pay to fix this?"
Since I am committed to the mod already, it is time to spend a little money.
Ok. I had an experienced coder look at this problem and commit a fix for me. I am posting this to help others who have experienced this problem for a long time now.
Here are the changes that the users need to do:
Open Sources/Subs-adkblog.php
find:
'show' => $context['notify'][0],
replace with:
'show' => empty($context['notify']) ? false : true,
find:
$context['notify'] = array(false,0);
replace with:
$context['notify'] = '';
and lastly find:
$context['notify'] = array(true,$total);
replace with:
$context['notify'] = $total;
Coder Comments: The error was simple, the mod author didn't check that the actual var existed, it is good practice to check any var for its existence before use it, also, there is no need to use an array when you can check the existence on the var itself.
Also, there is another edit on the adkblog bug, its easy, on the same file find:
'title' => $txt['blog_not'].' <i>('.$context['notify'][1].')</i>',
and replace with:
'title' => empty($context['notify']) ? '' : $txt['blog_not'].' <i>('. $context['notify'] .')</i>',
actually... I tried those (empty check) fixes a while ago... with no particular change in errors
The mod also contains a (pretty obvious) security hole. Won't hand out any more details, though. I contacted the mod authors but haven't had a response yet.
Well - today I saw a new reviewed version still 3.0 Including an update. But alas the update is from V2. Can a helpful soul tell us (I assume there are more of us) how to do a manual upgrade from the hmmm - original V3?
TIA
The review package is uploaded with a few important fixes. It's not recommended to use but it somewhat fixed a couple of bugs and some other stuff.
Well - that is what I thought. But I have the feeling those fixes (except the damn notify error) would not be useful if I can't install them. Thus my question: is it enough to replace the old files with the new ones?
So far, that is enough. We might find trouble in the database but that's very unlikely.
So far the fixes also have been very useful. If the "notify error" is the "This module is not activated" error that you are talking about, then it's fixed in the review package.
no.... the "notify error" is the undefined error that has been reported about 100 times in the last few pages of this thread... :P

I have not received the notify error since the day those fixes were added to my forum, the ones I posted information on for others. I was really thankful to have a coder find that quickly and create a solution that resolved that notify problem.
There are some very talented coders here at SMF. I really appreciate the work that each has done for me and 1up.
Anyway, my new idea for editing my Blog start page at 1up is to change it to show several rows of users who have a blog and make it a clickable link to their blog. I also thought that I could use the custom profile field that comes with SMF to give each user a Blog Title field. So, when you first click the Blogs link you would see something like this image below, and then below that you would see the long list of blog topics:
(https://www.simplemachines.org/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi.imgur.com%2F0rn9R.jpg%3F1&hash=e0a64eef068332b1b3367e59ad03548c4ab7e8df)

I'm also not having much luck with support for another known issue over with the "Calling your Twitter" feed on the home of the forum... but I digress...

We were already on 2.02 and did a fresh (first time) install of 3.0 adk.
We are still working on getting it how I want it to look. Today we went from the picture you see in my prior post above (which was a concept of what I wanted to do) to getting the user content on the Blog start page. You can see it here: http://www.1upclan.info/forum/index.php?action=blogs
I am enjoying this blog thing. After I get the customization the way I want it you can have the subs file but I am not a coder so do not ask me to help you (for we are both lost in the maze of doGet and $function). As the next step I created a Profile Field and called it "Blog Title" so we can get a personal title for each person's blog.
How much would it cost to backport this to SMF 1.1?

Well... I tried the upgrade from 2.0 (which has been stable for me and my users for a long long time) and tried going to 3.0. Kaput. Epic fail and in trying to fix it, I lost the existing blogs. :( So I'm back on 2.0 and licking my wounds.
I'm also not having much luck with support for another known issue over with the "Calling your Twitter" feed on the home of the forum... but I digress...
@rlh2006 - Have you been able to upgrade 2.0 to 3.0 at all?
@rlh2006 - I really like that blog image/page you have mocked-up. Care to share?
Thanks.

That is pretty sweet, nice job. I run a guild site for a MMORPG and my gang would go nuts for this. Right now I am running on SMF 2.02 and ADK Blog 2. Things are back to stable now which is great, but (like you) I'd like to kick it up a notch... just at a loss on how to tweak the code...or fix it when it breaks. I'm looking forward to seeing how your stuff turns out.
And thanks in advance, now I just need to try to upgrade again to 3.0.
T.
Thank you but I think the Adk Blog Mod is way more adavanced and thus desireable
Hmm... well, I did the upgrade to 3.0...ran the test and it said successful. Though, upon completion and clicking on the blog link, I get this error:
Unable to load the 'main' template.
I'm running 2.02 with the Night Sky Theme.
The page itself loads fine, but where the blogs would be listed is where this error is appearing.
However, if I go to my blog, I can see all of mine and create a new post in my blog.
Not sure what happened or how to fix this. Can somebody lend a hand please?
Thank you in advance.
EDIT: Oh... Search is such a wonderful thing. And unfortunately, PANIC usually gets in the way and forces you to overlook the obvious. I found the issue... I fixed it...and life is good.

For others who have this same error message upon upgrade from 2.0 to 3.0. Easy to fix ... even for a non-coder like me. :)
I can't wait to get the stuff from Rlh2006 and play with that too.
Weird thing going on that I just noticed... the Like count isn't working. You can Like a Blog, but the count isn't going up.
Suggestions?
Thanks.

Check your site for an error log something like this:

That was the problem I had with the "like" issue.
The permission was set to 666, so I changed it to 644.
The error appears to be gone and the "like" button appears to be working now.

Well, we got the customer titles on each person's blog. Now we are working on this stuff (don't judge my photo editing because I am NOT good at that stuff):
1) Profile Field. Edit the custom blog profile to be centered, bolded and Green:
From this (showing blog title I currently use): "The Front Line" to this:
The Front Line. See the example image below:
(https://www.simplemachines.org/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi.imgur.com%2FRp99U.png%3F1&hash=a293c15f13ebc72c2d16ed10e35a7c2bb8de8109)
2) Recent Topics. Putting the recent blog posts back to be displayed in a table below the Bloggers. We would need some pagination as the number of bloggers and recent posts grows. The recent posts code was already there. See image below (trying to show the Recent Topics below):
(https://www.simplemachines.org/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi.imgur.com%2FYEv7t.jpg%3F1&hash=d0b87f9dbfcb556155f77d0472f8955cf252e0fb)
Topic / Date / Author (no icons or anything).
Got the "Unable to load the 'main' template." message but am unsure which reference to the blog I need to take out of index.php. I've got:
Line 178/179 //Load blog's not
checkNotify();
Line 291 if (empty($board) && empty($topic) && isset($_REQUEST['blog']))
401 'blogs' => array('BlogAdminSettings.php','AllBlogsList'),

Where did you get that message?
I updated to ADK Blog 3.0 and everything seemed fine with no errors - this message shows when I click on Blogs on the site nav. menu.
In http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.phpaction=search2;search=Unable+to+load+the+%27main%27+template;topic=398380 it says "... the upgrade does NOT remove the old 'blogs' line in the index.php action array.... Apparently that is no longer used in 3.0 and so needs to be removed if you are upgrading." but blogs are mentioned 3 times in index.php so I don't know which to remove Yoshi2889
Can you attach your index.php file in your next post, please?
Here it is:
So can this be backported to SMF 1.1 ?
Any suggestions for my index.php problem please?
does the unable to load main template happen all the time or just occasionally?
It's not usually a problem in index.php, actually....
When you report an error, it helps if you copy/paste the EXACT error from the error log
Thanks for your reply Kindred. Error log says:
Today at 19:54
05ea98f976b85515cdeacd141225a19a
Type of error: Template
http://www.xxxxxxxxxxxx.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=blogs
Unable to load the 'main' template.
It happens all the time since I updated to 3.0 the other day.
so, actually, as I said, the problem is not in the index.php.... it's in the file that is called for the blog action...
look at the blog template file... (not sure what it's called)
Now I'm confused (admittedly it doesn't take much) because I thought you had the same problem Kindred and sorted it in index.php. In Reply #544 on: March 07 in this thread you said you had the same problem then edited to say - figured it out... the upgrade does NOT remove the old 'blogs' line in the index.php action array.... Apparently that is no longer used in 3.0 and so needs to be removed if you are upgrading.
ah... right. that was indeed the problem.
delete line 401
Thanks, that fixed my 'Like" issue. And easy to deal with as a permission fix. :)
My Blog usage by members has gone from 3 folks to near 10 just from the upgrade from 2 to 3. So I'm happy with that considering that jump is just the first month of actually promoting it on our site to our members.
Will continue to watch this thread. :)
Thanks your stuff is looking good!

That worked Kindred - thank you. :)
littlenicki,
Considering the amount of 2.0.x features that this takes advantage of, it would have to be completely re-written to port back to 1.1.x. So... probably not.
Well, how much would it cost to rewrite it? Regards

I uploaded fix for ADK blogs 3.0 and nothing happened :-\ I still got errors on lines 61 and 63 and that really frustrates me, cause I don't know what to do.
I don't know if a good solution would be to reinstall ADK blogs again?

OK folks... I finally got tired of waiting... after bugging vbgamer about EZportal, he gave me a hint which prompted me to find the solution...
http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=271882.msg3457172#msg3457172
This will fix the problem with the portal thinking that the blog is the same as the homepage (in EZPortal)
this will not add any capability to specify blocks to appear only on the blog pages... but with the fix that I list in that post, the blog will display all blocks which are listed for the "display on all pages" option. Additionally, if you really need it, I think I know how to have the portal display blocks on the blog to match the boardindex settings.
Hey Peeps...
Been a while since I posted here on this subject and I have a question/observation.
Has anyone noticed that when a user Comments on Blog and includes a URL... when 'saved', the Comment appears with the URL blocked between
[u r l] some link [/u r l] in TEXT and not a hyperlink? (no spaces in the URL letters.. I had to do that so the forum here will let it pass thru.)
This has been an issue since the 3.0 upgrade and when I noticed it today...my users said 'yeah, it has been like that for a while.'
doh! :(
Any suggestions or are there other folks who have this same issue?
Otherwise... I have no issues with ADK Blog 3.0 and my users LOVE it. I have like 15 pages of various Blogs ... its nuts!
Thanks
T.
How do I move the blog button in the menu? I like to rearrange my menu. I used the directions HERE (http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=261880.0) to find the code to rearrange my menu, BUT the information for this mod and one other were not there with the rest of it. I did notice when I rearranged all the other buttons that this one seems to be attached to the "members" button. Wherever it goes, the blog button is always to the left of it. But, I don't want it there, so how do I move it?

EDIT: I found out what was causing the error message. Some users had the WYSIWYG editor turned 'on' by default and when using it the blogs don't seem to recognise any text that is input. By using the non-WYSIWYG editor, they don't get the error message. Just in case anyone else receives the same error, just switch off your WYSIWYG or don't use it for the blogs.
Many thanks for this information. I was having this problem and was pulling my hair out.
It was indeed the WYSIWYG.
Blog works as expected now that is unchecked in my profile.
SMF 2.0.4 updated ;)
And Dutch language added thanks to DiMarco (http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?action=profile;u=356479)
Regards enik...
I' like to download this mod...but which one do I use, there's one called Adk-blog.Dutch.zip and one named Adk_blog_3.0_review.zip. Which one works for my forum SMF 2.0.4? Thanks
look at the file size.
the dutch is probably just the language files in dutch, for the mod
That's what I thought. Just checking...thanks
Don't know if this is the right topic to ask but i'll try.
Been searching for the option to let users themself manage who is allowed to read and comment their blog's.
Is that option there? don't think beacuase i can't find it but maybe i look wrong.
kind regards
This is a great mod..but I have a problem. I've added my first blog and everything's fine apart from the fact that the HTML code is showing on the line breaks, which makes it a bit confusing for people trying to read it. Is this a glitch?
Thanks
Hello. I posted here off and on last year quite a bit. Suki worked with me several times to make quality changes to the blog so my idea of how the blogs should look and feel could be accomplished on my forum. I finally have it to where there is a display that suits my tastes. So many edits and changes. Maybe the Mod Team might take a look at the way we have it displayed and consider that type of display as an option in a later build: http://www.1upclan.info/forum/index.php?action=blogs
(Note: in order to allow users to create a title for their blog, we had a field made in the user profile where they input the title they want, or by default it uses their name). I am going to stop working on this for now and focus on some other changes I want to make on the forum.
How do I move the "Blogs" menu button? I really don't like it sitting on the tail end of the menu after "Logout". I would like it together with the other menu options.
It's not in the subs.php file like all the others...so it's inserted elsewhere. I can't find it. Anyone?
It is in the database, I think in the settings table.
CapadY... Database?
I would assume that the blog line item was inserted into the menu array through the use of hooks (?) in which case, the hook would be in one of the adk files.

Dude....this is INCREDIBLE! Went to the site and saw it first-hand! I wish I could get you to share the code with me. I would LOVE this feature on my site. I know my members would as well.
Any chance you might be willing to let me take a peek at the code?
is there a way to get it like category and then in that one other categories ?

any progress on this one yet?
as i'm getting the same problem too,
i have tried the permissions tip from an earlier post here, but it did not change anything,
not too worried about the editing giving the html stuff, but would like to get the like problem sorted out if possible.
The editing is indeed a bug in the mod itself. They are going to fix it in the next release.
But they don't answer about the liking issue.
Update portuguese files
Hello,
I want to embed my ADK blog into a custom action. Is this possible?
If it is possible could somebody please tell me how to do it?
The url of the blog is now index.php?blog=1
I want it to be something like index.php?action=blog1
Redirecting doesnt work.
King Regards.
So it basically can't be the index.php?blog=1 link, cause otherwise my menu gets ******ed up. :|
no... changing that would involve changing ALOT of the code in the mod...
Why can't your menu handle the blog=#?
Because SMF's menu code can't handle that without rewriting it. It can only handle cases of action=identifier where the identifier is the menu id, or it has a specific exclusion like search2, login2, register2 etc. all have just below the menu definition.
ah.... I didn't undertsnad what he meant by screwing up the menu.
He means that the menu won't display the "blogs" as a selected item in the menu because it doesn't recognize the blgo versus action
hmmmm.... but it does seem to work correctly for me on 40konline.com
When I go to the My Blog menu item, (index.php?blog=1833) the "Blog" menu item is highlighted, the same as if I went to the action=blog item.
Then he's modified the menu code.
I didn't modify anything on the menu, I want to add a blog button to the menu, but when i did it, it wasn't highlighted when i clicked on it, so i removed it again.
This is the code of the theme menu (I have to edit it in the theme the maker told me.

IIRC, this mod adds a button via the hooks...
Is it possible to set up a membergroup (call it "bloggers", inherit from Regular Members), enable only "bloggers" to be allowed to blog, and then add members you want to allow to have a blog to the "bloggers" membergroup?
I ask because I've been trying this exact setup, and it's giving me mixed results.
I've selected only the "bloggers" membergroup in Configuration->Manage Blogs->Settings->Groups permitted to have their own blog. In my testing, my regular member "Joe" is in both "bloggers" and "registered" membergroups. (I made a "registered" membergroup inherited from Regular Members just to be able to put him into two membergroups at the same time.) I also put my Administrator account into the "bloggers" and "registered" membergroups. "Joe" can blog, but my Administrator can't.
Perhaps Adk Blog only looks at the "first" or "last" membergroup in the list when checking for enabling blogging when someone is in multiple membergroups?
Yup it is possible. That is the setup that I use, myself
Interesting. But I can't seem to get it to work. Here's what I've got...
"Registered" - inherited from "Regular Members", visible.
"Bloggers" - inherited from "Regular Members", visible. (This one is set to enable blogging.)
Member "Joe".
If I first put him in Bloggers, he can blog, then add him to Registered (now he's in both), he can still blog. (All good.)
However...
If I first put him in Registered, he can't blog (which is correct), then add him to Bloggers (now he's in both), he still can't blog.
I noticed that on Joe's profile page, he's still listed as in "Registered", even though he's actually in both.
Can you repro this on your board? (Or do you have a different configuration? I'm using 2.0.5 btw.)
---
Update: I've repeated my test on a clean install of v2.0.6 and Adk Blog, and got the same results.
I'm getting the feeling that SMF really wasn't designed to handle members being assigned to more than one membergroup at the same time.
Subtle things don't work right, like only showing one membergroup under the member's name in the Profile Info's Summary block, which doesn't update correctly when the member is in two membergroups and is removed from the first one (it displays the post-count group instead of the second membergroup).
Does anyone have code to implant whole blog posts in a Simple Portal block rather than just the titles?
Adk blog is now available for download

Hi,
I have 2.0.11, default theme. The mod uploaded via the package manager and installed without incident. However, the redirect never worked. It just sat there and timed out. I did see that it was attempting to redirect to ?action=admin;area=blogadmin so I entered this manually into my URL but I just got a white page. I went ahead and uninstalled it (and that was without incident, as well). I did see "Blogs" added to the menu, and clicking, of course, produced the error message: "No blogs have been added" but I would think that I would need to set this up first, which is why I was hoping the redirect to the admin section would work. (My forum is on a dedicated server, if that's important.)
My other mods are:
Member Notebook
SMF Gallery Lite
Ohara YouTube Embed
Ultimate Profile
Custom Board Icons
SMF Arcade
Dynamic Memberlist
All those installed without incident and forum maintenance is showing no errors.
Is there any use to simply try reinstalling, or can you see an issue that is causing the redirect to fail? Thanks for any help. :)
Still wondering? :-[
I guess I'll try to install it manually and see if that will make it work. Thanks, anyway. :(
I hope it's okay to bump this after 3 days.
If anyone has this mod installed and the redirect didn't work for them, either, can you please advise how to manually access the setup? (I'm just not finding it in the admin area and any attempt to access the page the redirect seems to be trying to take me to (?action=admin;area=blogadmin) results in a white page.
Again, the mod installs via the package manager without error and there are no forum log errors following the installation.
Anyone, at all?

@Grammy I've installed recently and has not caused me any problems calmly redirected me to the admin panel www.url.com/index.php?action=admin;area=blogadmin ... Are you sure you have correctly applied? What version of smf you have? What theme are you using?
Regards!

Hi, Rock Lee, and thanks for replying. What I posted originally is below and to that, I would just add that there are no forum errors in my logs and I had no warnings during the installation. It just simply did not redirect. Interestingly enough, though, the text from the mod author's redirect.txt did appear on the screen but all the HTML break codes were visible and it just did not look right. However, even seeing that did not cause a redirect. When I looked down at the bottom of my browser and saw the link it was trying to redirect to (the same one you posted), I pasted it in my browser and just got a white screen.
QuoteI have 2.0.11, default theme.

Ah excuse is that I had not seen besides my English is not so good .... Have some smf forum parallel test to test? Does that leave you uninstall it without problems? ... May be a permissions problem but I doubt layers is something related to the code used and the host, but that's why I ask if you can try it in a clean test furo your host to see if the error persists!
Regards!

Well.... that's a good idea, Rock Lee. I have another site I don't use much. I'll install a clean SMF 2.0.11 forum on it and try the blog mod again. If it installs and behaves properly, then I think the problem may be another mod interfering. I'll do that sometime today and let you know. Thanks for the idea! :)

Hi, Rock Lee,
I installed a copy on a clean board and, at first, it behaved as before, but I left it sitting there, trying to redirect, while I did some other things and eventually, it did redirect. I expect that if I do the same on my other board, it will finally redirect.
Right now I'm comparing it to PMXBlog, to see which I prefer. Currently, logging in as admin and then logging in as a regular member, PMXBlog seems easier to navigate. Viewing "All Blogs" brings up a sectioned list under the blogger's usernames, with the categories they are working under. I'm not seeing that in ADK; it basically is looking like just another board. But I'll add several sample blogs under different test users and see if that sorts it.
Another thing, just looking, is that PMXBlog allows HTML editing, rather than BBC, which is always nice. But I'll play with this one and give it a chance.
Thanks again for your suggestions! :)

The mark error has a problem when loading Did you check the directory if this file and if you have the correct permissions?

Hi guys I have a question:
Although everything works fine in the forum, whenever someone logs in, or searches for a topic etc. I always get an error log, which is:
8: Undefined index: notify
I could locate the source of the problem in the following file:
forum/Sources/Subs-adkblog.php
in the following 2 lines:
Line: 61
Line: 63
In other words, all errors derive from these two lines.
The code of this part is the following:
'blog_notify' => array(
'title' => $txt['blog_not'].' <i>('.$context['notify'][1].')</i>', <---- line 61
'href' => $scripturl.'?action=blog_notify',
'show' => $context['notify'][0], <---- line 63
),
),
array_slice($buttons, $find_me)
);
Could anyone tell me how to resolve that issue?
Thank you in advance guys

I installed it on a new SMF 2.0.17 server. It is only package I installed.
But the blog can only be seen by administrator. No any other user or guest can see the "Blog" item.
Is there any permission need to be changed? I can not find any setting up for this package.

Is there any permission need to be changed? I can not find any setting up for this package.
I mean there is no tab or link to "Blog" for guest and registered users, only Administrator can see the "Blog" tab.
The problem solved. I find how to change the setting to permit other users to view and create their blog. It is in the configuration.
Just FYI:
Installed into SMF 2.0.17 on PHP 7.3 and got errors.
Since I was looking at the code anyway, I have updated the Subs-adkblog file (in Sources) to fix the problem and the BlogFeatures.template,php fiule (in default theme directory) to get rid of the tables (and make it more mobile friendly)
As a note for anyone who wants to us this -- you should turn off the SMF WYSIWYG editor for this to work....
additional reminder: the edit to display.template.php is also needed

-11/12 edit - added a revised version of the template file since I realized that my original post had a bug in it that caused errors on every new blog post.
Additionally, have noted an issue when editing existing blog posts or comments -- line breaks get read into the editor as html <br/>. Think I know why but won't be able to fix until next week.
If anybody is using this, an you post a link to your site so I can see what it looks like?
Did you not read the post with the link just above??
I know this is old, sorry but is there a way to hide the blog button/icon in display.template.php if the user hasn't created a blog
tried searching the thread but didn't find an answer
and thanks kindred ;) I snagged your updated files
Not without adding an additional query per user probably not :P
Unless you add a new column to the members table with the number of blogs
figures :P was worth asking....
wishful thinking it was something simple I just wasn't seeing
Hi folks
Once installed, would it be possible to set this up as a single blog post with comments/replies shown as the most recent comment/reply first?
So, in effect, a kind of 'timeline' ;)
I love the way SMF boards/topics/replies are structured and certainly wouldn't want to change a thing, but it would be nice if we could have one 'timeline' like topic somewhere.
I'm simply thinking about a single topic (blog post?) which stays at the top (as an intro) followed by comments/replies displayed in order of the most recent first. Maybe somebody has found another way of doing this?
Cheers
Mike
For a vanilla SMF, I'd try First Post on Every Page (http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=1472) for repeating the OP on each page, and the post order can be reversed by default through SMF settings.
I say vanilla, because I have no idea how Adk blog actually works and I'm unsure if this would work in combination with it or not.
Hi,
Will there be an update for SMF 2.1?

Not unless someone else picks it up. The mod author hasn't been online since June of 2017
