Hi there,
I'm experiencing some problems with the search function, and am not sure if this is a SMF of server issue.
When using one or two words, all is okay. A bit slow, but I really have no idea what speed I might expect on my forum. This isn't really an issue. When using 3 or more words, the search times out and displays this error :
Database error: Lost connection to MySQL server during query
File: /www/htdocs/hulpvera/forum/Sources/Search.php
Line: 1124
Have tried different search indexes, optimized tables, without any result.
Any suggestions, please?
My first suggestion would be to take this up with your host.
If they can't help, then come back and let us know.
How large is your forum (messages)? What type of hosting solution do you have and what are the specs?

Actually, I recently became co-Admin, so I'll have to ask the admin some questions regarding the hosting...

I'd hope you guys at least have a VPS, in which case you should have root access... with over 500K posts, I'd suggest looking into Sphinx... we have lots of information in the Big Forum discussion which is accessible to our users in the 500K+ message club... you can request access by going here (http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?action=profile;area=groupmembership) (include your board URL so it can be verified). If you haven't already done so, you should also go through the Twenty-four things you can do to make SMF go faster (Updated June 16th, 2010) (http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=293441.0).
Running on a dedicated server now, host enabled "big selects", all is working fine now 8)
