Title: ERROR: You need to fill in a username.
Post by: Mattymar on March 27, 2011, 04:26:36 PM
I had this problem with the 1.1.13 install so I tried this one and same deal. I install everything and go to log in as the admin and I always get the error "You need to fill in a username" despite the fact that I enter the correct username and password. I've done everything I've found browsing through suggestions made in the past. Nothing has worked for me. Am I doomed?

Can you tell us your software and versions for your webserver, PHP and database please?

Not sure how to answer those questions.  I installed the latest 2.0 version.  I'm using Host Gator cpanel for PHP and MySQL. I'm not a developer or anything, so I'm not well-versed in where to find these things.

Thanks for that, have you any mods installed?

Can you post a link to your forum so we can take a look?

Odd, there is an issue, but without knowing more, it is difficult to determine what. I tried to register to your site, but each time I clicked the button for
"I accept the terms of the agreement" the page would simply refresh and load the agreement again repetitively.

How did you install your forum, using webinstall, via fantastico in cpanel, or did you manually upload the package using ftp?

I installed manually using FTP.

have you tried wiping it and re-installing because you have not really started yet so not much to lose (no offence meant) and seeing if it does it again if so re-download the entire package and then ftp that :)

Sorry, I have been busy.  I agree with aidyUK, since it is a brand new install, I would try to delete all the forum files and folders, delete the database, and then create a new database and install again fresh. If the issue persists after that, it could be a host configuration issue.

Many have had this problem with this in this version, its just a error in the transfer, and all you can do is, just redo your forum. Sorry.
