Title: Installing packages manually
Post by: Indoril on September 14, 2011, 05:50:16 PM
Hi

I've been following this guide: Manual installation of mods (http://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/Manual_installation_of_mods)

My server enviroment doesn't allow ftp connections without SSL so I cant use the "enter ftp info and press go" option ;)

So I understand that guide pretty well, but what I dont understand is what to do after I've followed it.

Do I go the package manager choose the package and press "Install mod" and then "Proceed" for it to add it to the installed.list?
If that its the case it doesn't work. The package manager simply hangs.

Any tips for this?

After all manual changes have been done and the files uploaded, if there is nothing to do to the database then the mod should work after a good refresh and cleaning of the cache.

if your forum is asking for ftp information that means one or more folders/files needed to be edited can not be written by the server, if you correct that the server will not ask for the ftp information and the package should install normally.

Besides that if changing file permissions does not work you could be on a server that needs file ownership changed. If so please check that out with your host if changing permissions does not work.
