From http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=450192 I have realised that this unhelpful error text was being produced when spam bots attempted to use OpenID to log into our SMF 2.0 forum. What's the chances of the error text being improved to tell people what actually happened and that it is linked to an OpenID issue?
Also the fix, being to turn OpenID access off, is pretty blunt and not in keeping with the eloquently functional software that SMF is becoming. Hence it may be appropriate to derive some other solution to the actual problem than to leave people to figure out which anti-spam mod might be needed to deal with this basic issue, if they ever figure out it is spam related in the first place......
