Title: Can't seem to approve a topic...
Post by: MoinFaraz on April 28, 2012, 03:45:32 AM
Hello,

It seems like i have encountered a serious issue.

Its hard to explain it here, so i have made a small video demonstrating the same.

Please have a look and feel free to give your thoughts.

Hi,

a) No mods installed!

b) Here is the  forums link (http://tech.info/internet_marketing)
*Between, its in signature too :)

c) No luck with either mod or an admin, it will just redirect to the same page.

Thanks for looking into it.

I see loads of them... not 100% sure on sharing them?

Is there an option to export log file and attach to this topic.

Regards

It would be great if you can just copy/paste few of them (different ones) here, especially if there is some related to moderation and approve stuff.

Are you sure that you don't have any mods installed, urls on your forum looks like you have some mod? (like simple SEF or smth)

Please make sure that you have backup of your database and all files, and then try to run Admin>Forum Maintenance and repairing errors.

If that doesn't help, try going to CPanel>Databases and repairing it, there.

Yup, no mods have been installed.

The only change i have made to URLs is via admin > feature & options > Search engine friendly URLs

Just did admin > maintenance > forum maintenance > Find and repair any errors == still no luck ....

I am sure i don't know how to do that... could you possibly point me to an help article?

Do you know how to use phpMyAdmin?
Try to open it and select your forum's database, then check all tables and select "repair database" in drop-down list. Before than please make sure that you have backup of your database.

Yea, i am familiar with it...

Selected all tables and repaired them all...  below is SQL query:

REPAIR TABLE  `smf_admin_info_files` ,  `smf_approval_queue` ,  `smf_attachments` ,  `smf_ban_groups` ,  `smf_ban_items` ,  `smf_boards` ,  `smf_board_permissions` , `smf_calendar` ,  `smf_calendar_holidays` ,  `smf_categories` ,  `smf_collapsed_categories` ,  `smf_custom_fields` ,  `smf_group_moderators` ,  `smf_log_actions` , `smf_log_activity` ,  `smf_log_banned` ,  `smf_log_boards` ,  `smf_log_comments` ,  `smf_log_digest` ,  `smf_log_errors` ,  `smf_log_floodcontrol` ,  `smf_log_group_requests` , `smf_log_karma` ,  `smf_log_mark_read` ,  `smf_log_member_notices` ,  `smf_log_notify` ,  `smf_log_online` ,  `smf_log_packages` ,  `smf_log_polls` ,  `smf_log_reported` , `smf_log_reported_comments` ,  `smf_log_scheduled_tasks` ,  `smf_log_search_messages` ,  `smf_log_search_results` ,  `smf_log_search_subjects` ,  `smf_log_search_topics` , `smf_log_spider_hits` ,  `smf_log_spider_stats` ,  `smf_log_subscribed` ,  `smf_log_topics` ,  `smf_mail_queue` ,  `smf_membergroups` ,  `smf_members` ,  `smf_messages` , `smf_message_icons` ,  `smf_moderators` ,  `smf_openid_assoc` ,  `smf_package_servers` ,  `smf_permissions` ,  `smf_permission_profiles` ,  `smf_personal_messages` , `smf_pm_recipients` ,  `smf_pm_rules` ,  `smf_polls` ,  `smf_poll_choices` ,  `smf_scheduled_tasks` ,  `smf_sessions` ,  `smf_settings` ,  `smf_smileys` ,  `smf_spiders` , `smf_subscriptions` ,  `smf_themes` ,  `smf_topics`

Tried approving topic again and got redirected... :( sorry, no luck again.

Blah.
You can try to throw me admin details for login on your forum so i can take a look at it if you want. There may be some permissions problem i guess, but you shouldn't see "approve" button if you don't have permissions to approve it i guess.

Did you changed any settings now?
I now can't open those topics, i got "This topic doesn't exist on this board."
I tried to register new member there and post topic with it, but that board doesn't require approval now? Also member who posted those unapproved topics is not registered (it's guest) so there may be the problem i guess. I would try to:
1. Register new member and add those topics to his acc. (u can do that via admin panel, mainteance)
2. Turn approval on "s.e.f" board on, and try to approve topics then.

Also i noticed that you have plenty of errors in error log even that you're using default theme and you have no mods installed. I would suggest to eventually try to do large upgrade just to be sure that everything works fine, and to clear those errors.

Nope... haven't made any changes.

I can access them fine (with same redirection problem as earlier when clicked on 'approve')

May be this would help ::: i used to host this forum on other hosting... i was getting a lot of spam registrations and changed hosts... i have not imported members table in database and just posts, threads etc... that's why you see them as posted by 'guests'

1) I am not sure how to add topics to some members account... (are you doing it or do i need to do that?)

2) I guess its already on at the moment as i have not imported settings too...

I have just installed it a few days back and i hope that answers it :) sorry, i should have told this earlier.

Well, why didn't you import members table as well?

Try to go to admin - mainteance - members - there u can add guests posts to specific member.
Title: Re: Can't seem to approve a topic...

Because most of the members were spam bots and i thought i just just skip them... while doing so, i had to left some real members too.

I have added guests posts to a member and they are showing under his name now... tried to approve them again and got redirected as usual :( it seems like its stuck. no matter what user / guests those posts belongs to, we simply can't approve them.

You can't import your old members table now? Also, did you try to do large upgrade?

I'm afraid that i'm out of ideas for now, please wait for someone else to answer here.

I am not really willing to import old members table... most of them were spam bots and that's one of the reasons i have installed a fresh copy of SMF on new hosting and created a new database.

Large upgrade? isn't that part of new forum installation? please forgive me if that's a dumb question.

Thank you for your time mate. i will wait for someone to look and give me some suggestions.

Regards

Sounds to me that you now have a total mismatch and thats where your problem lies.

Restore the old database and files from your previous hosting and include the members table this time. Once restored remove/delete unwanted members/posts with normal methods. Don't try and be clever by omiting the members table as there are too many dependancies involved that link to other areas. Then tidy up and upgrade if required with new files.

If you are not willing to import the old members table then I suspect you're on your own which is why you've not had any recent support responses.
