Title: Moving accounts from 1.x to 2.0
Post by: directive0 on May 31, 2012, 04:23:19 PM
I have searched high and low and found many topics supporting questions similar to this but nothing concretely supporting my inquiry.  I apologize in advance if I have overlooked an obvious post containing my solution.

I have a forum that has a large user base, we are moving to a brand new smf 2.0 install and I really want to just provide my existing users that ability to simply use their previous login/password to access the new forum.  I realize that the SMF 1.X accounts database is not compatible with SMF 2.0.  Is there somewhere I could find an articulately written and concise set of instructions as to how I could effectively bring my old accounts over to my new forum?

Again, I am really sorry if this has been posted a million times, but it has been frustrating trying to find something that clearly lays out the requirements and steps to perform this task.  Thanks in advance.

If you upgrade to 2.0 through the upgrader process, all your users and posts will be retained.

That looks relatively easy, is that my only option?  I was hoping somewhat to make a clean break.

Short of doing stuff in the database manually, that's about your only option.

Of course, you could just delete everything but members before doing the upgrade...
