Is there or will there be this option in any new versions, where you can add a banner instead of a board title that can be hyperlinked or not if you choose to, would be handy for Brand based boards or boards specefic to an advertiser

That would really just fall under a custom theme option. We had requests for eons where people asked to have the custom logo image linked. If you want to customize the logo in such a way, that can easily be done by adding custom theme settings. Personally I don't see it as useful to customize the link in such ways. But that's just me. :)
Yeah, I'm not inclined to do this, to customise the display of a board's name on the board index - especially as there are plenty of other places the board's name is still needed without being an image.
