Title: How to Install Ads
Post by: NeedIt on September 26, 2012, 05:49:31 PM
I am interested in installing Ads.  I have SMF 2.0.1 on GoDaddy hosting where they did the autoinstall for me.  I do not have access the admin stuff.

My SMF forum is pretty active, i.e. I am getting around 20 posts/day I would say.

I am currently using the default theme.

Here is my question:

Where is doc that describes how to do the AdMod install?  I am trying to figure out if I can even do it with my current GoDaddy set up.

This is the ad mod that I was thinking of doing.  Let me know if that is correct?

That's quite a problem in my mind. If GoDaddy setup your site for you, they should have either provided you the administration account information or more unrealistically have someone dedicated within GoDaddy administering your forum for you. I would contact GoDaddy and get your administration rights established ASAP. From there you can install mods like Ad Management. :)

I am guessing you do have admin access, but are unaware of it. I can't imagine godaddy would configure a forum without giving you elevated access.

They should give you access to the admin tab of your forum hopefully. If so use the package manager to install.

This is Windows and MySQL.  Okay, one last question before I talk to them:

I have ftp access of course to the folders.  But that's not good enough, right?  You have to do an actual Windows install, correct?

fyi:  GoDaddy offers the hosting panel - can't remember what it is called - for those who have VM, but I don't have VM.  I need to go to VM but it costs and there's usually a big outage with them whenever you migrate servers.  So I've put it off.

You could install it using FTP, by editing the files, yourself.

Hard work, though, with that mod.

You can go to the mod's page and click the parser, there. That tells you what edits need to be made.

Whatever you do, remember my sig, before doing this kinda stuff, woncha? ;)

Will definitely keep any all names in mind, but I like to understand the gyst of how things like this are done.

Okay, if I understand right, the normal way to do this is through the Package Manager under Admin.  I found that.  So, if I have access to that Admin/Package Manager option, I should be okay, right?

That's good news that you have access to Package Manager. Yes, that's the good place to install mods. :)
