Title: The board you specified doesn't exist: Error
Post by: bukharifaran on October 21, 2012, 04:31:52 PM
I've installed SMF on another domain that I own. I did't find any error on my old domain/forum. But on the new one here is an error.

The by default category was "General Category" and the board in it was "General Discussion". When I tried to make a new topic in it, it says: The board you specified doesn't exist.

Whereas I could reply reply to an existing post in it.

Than I created a new Category and added a board to it. It was working fine. I was able to create a new topic in it.

Then I delete both categories. And make a new category with the name "Rules and Announcements". Added a board into it and try to create a new topic. But I got the same error: The board you specified doesn't exist.

Kindly tell me what is the problem. Unexpected thing which happened is that when I selected the board to see its threads, the URL which appear was: http://www.mobilefun.pk/forum// And then I click on create new post: URL was http://www.mobilefun.pk/forum/post//

This // (double slash) is creating the problem i think.

*While adding the board, i'd selected default permission set. And neither able to post with user account nor with super admin account.

The problem is your Pretty URLs mod.

Go to the board's configuration and select the Pretty URLs for that board. You need to give it a name and set at least one name as 'primary'.

Right, when I select this option:

QuoteCreate Simple URLs
Urls will look like /forum/board-1/, or /forum/topic-3.html instead of content filled.

It works fine. But on my other forum I have this value unchecked even than forum is working fine.

Where as on this forum its not working with the above option unchecked. Moreover, SIMPLE SEF mod is not working to rewrite the URLs, where as on previous forum URL rewriting is working fine.

I've contacted to the technical team of my hosting provider as well as I thought it might be a problem of .htaccess file, but they told me that .htaccess file is configured correctly for URL rewriting on my hosting account.

*My previous forum is hosted on Fatcow.com and this forum is hosted with Siteground.com

*shrug* It would have been nice if you'd said it was SimpleSEF to start with...

I have no idea then, I haven't used SimpleSEF in a long time. Possibly that means the cache needs cleaning out, possibly the mod's buggy.

I'd honestly suggest that you not even bother with any "pretty urls" mod (whether it be simplesef or prettyurls or something else)   they are all pointless, do not contribute to SEO at all and cause all sorts of other errors for people in the short and long run.
