I'm trying to get some help with my forum, but when I post the url error message says you can't post external link. Please fix this. I really need help with my forum.
I don't think we'll be disabling that any time soon (spammers). Use the code tag to place your URL.
Welcome to SMF, too! :)
The idea, as @mashby says, is to cripple spammers who spew a bunch of links to their sites and then disappear from the community. If you really must give out an external link, and don't have enough posts yet to be allowed to do that, you'll have to disguise it (e.g., www(dot)mysite(dot)com/forum) or put it in a [code] block. Either way, it's not an active link and does spammers no good, while not being terribly inconvenient for someone who wants to help and needs to follow the given link.
It's not broken and it won't be "fixed".
And you can post once you've made one post, so you can now actually post your link anyway.
What, because you wanted to spam your site here?
Spam post was deleted. ;)
new to smf but surprised by the attitude of the responses, they seem to treat members like invaders, hope thats not a general attitude on SMF community
Welcome to the SMF Community ;)
Don't take this so seriously... we have just much trouble with spammers, bots, and other attacks... as each other community out there...
Many thanks for the quick responce, regards Ron
