Title: Ban triggers
Post by: The-Wishmaster on January 29, 2013, 10:47:44 PM

Hello  ;D

I have this one person that keep coming, well i guess its the same hes IP change but the Hostname is the same and the info in hes profile is also the same each time.

I have different mods to stop spammers and also use the Smf build in options, but this guy seem to come in any way I have ban him on all 4 ban triggers at once but why do he still come in I thought when i ban by Hostname triggers that then no one from that hostname can access the forum .?.

Any help will be very much appreciated.

Thanks
Brian

Um, how do you know he keeps coming, exactly?

Presumably it's dropping errors in to the error log to say that the ban was triggered? If that's the case then boom, he was stopped at the door and not let in any further.

Well on hes now many user names i can see in the ban log that this user name is triggered.

But he just make a new account and fill the same sh-it info in hes profile same ICQ and same meds Viagra website. then he make like a big pile of sh-it post to the forum always the same sh-it buy Viagra at www.bull****** website.com.

Only thing that change is hes username IP and hes email even though it is always @gmail.com he use just a new one each time.

Its always the same hostname..!

This is getting tiresome as i have to look for him all the time and ban him.

Don't bother banning - because you're just wasting your own resources.

Put an anti spam question in, a good one.

So what are these questions? If you search for them in Google, do you get an answer? Also, did you actually tell SMF to *use* the questions? (It's further up the page)

Just to understand, this person coming in and causing trouble is a spammer, it can't be reasoned with. It's not just a regular person causing trouble, it is an automated program.

Number of verification questions user must answer is set to 1

Yes some of the questions google will give a answer for..!

I didn't think of that, i better change this questions.

I been thinking if there are a way to find him and rapport him to hes internet provider, ore will they even bother to do anything against him ?

The problem is you have to actually find him. The odds of doing so are slim to none.

Okay then i wont bother, I changed the verification questions that google will give a answer for..!

Then i better go look if there are a mod i have not installed that might help.

I also turned on  "Post count under which users must pass verification to make a post" then i see if that helps .

Thanks for your time was nice of you  8)

Best Wishes
Brian

Not a problem :)

Also, for mods, I recommend starting with Bad Behaviour. Others recommend the honeypot and a couple of other things, but I find a great question is usually enough, but BB is a nice extra.
