Onto my forum. Would someone be willing to have a look on my forum and see if they can get them to load? I would greatly appreciate it. Or at least look and tell me what Im doing wrong.
well, you don't tell us what you have done...
http://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/Add_a_smiley_set
I once again followed those directions exactly and all I get is torn pieces of paper......
you uploaded the image files for the smilies using FTP?
you used the correct URL to the new smilie images?
Did you add them to an existing smilie directory or set up a new directory?
I honestly dont know what Im doing here. :-[ Is there anyway you could help me?
not really.... I am not near a ompcuter which I can use to do anything...
but, if you are not sure what you did, then how can you claim that you followed the instructions?
One of the first bit of the instructions is to upload the smilie image file(s) via FTP....
I did follow the instructions what Im not certain of is if its an ftp upload. Im not familiar with the terms. It now says this in my URL: http://broken-vows.com/smileys/bbph/...
I wish I could put up a screenshot but I dont seem to be able to.
I downloaded the smilies then hit upload on my forum admin site
Have a look at Admin>Smileys and message icons>Settings.
Check that the paths are correct.
The one labelled "Base URL to all smiley sets" will be a normal URL, like: http://broken-vows.com/Smileys",
The one labelled "Absolute path to all smiley sets" should be something like "/home/broken-vows/public_html/Smileys".
like this?
my base URL is right on but my absolute path is strange...../home/content/76/10995476/html/smileys is that wrong?
That might be right.
Can you give us a URL to a post where a broken smiley appears?
or tell me the filename of a smilie...

http://broken-vows.com/index.php?topic=36.0 about mid page maybe a bit lower
You seem to have uploaded the complete zip file, as a smiley, according to a page source view
<img src="http://broken-vows.com/smileys/bsa/bbph.zip" alt=":)" title="smiley" class="smiley" />
ah... that would be the problem.
Where did you get the ZIP from?
Was it intended to be a "package/mod"?
you need to extract the smilies OUT of the zip and upload them individually
Im not positive thats helpful bc its an older post. There is nothing with what Ive just loaded to help see whats wrong. Can anyone get into my forum and look to see if they can see the problem?

I know you wont believe it but I have tried that too. To load them individually and it didnt work that way either. I loaded a single smilie as a gif and nope.....
we'd need to see an exmple of that... but, I guarantee that a zip file will never ever work
If you PM me some admin details, I can take a quick look, for you.
Please, though, read this, first:

k. good to know. I can stop trying there. so should I just delete that file and start with a single smilie again? would that help?
yes

Pm'd you PW and username info
Yep. There's a zip file, which has, somehow, been installed as a smiley set. Quite how the software allowed that, I can't even being to imagine.
You'd be best just deleting that and installing the set as you'd install a mod, via Package Manager.
As I said, in PM, though...
If you have more than one smiley set, it can cause hassles, as I note, here: (Which also happens to be the page which describes how to add smiley sets)
http://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/Add_a_smiley_set
QuoteIf you have more than one smiley set, it's advisable to make sure that all sets contain graphics files with exactly the same names in all sets.
The reason for this, is obvious, when you think about it.
If two of your members are using two different sets of smileys, they won't see each-others, if the files do not have the same names! Or, if one image appears in one set, but not the other, they'll just see weirdness.
Another thing I've noticed, is that the base URL was pointing to a directory named "smileys". On the net, case matters. It should've been "Smileys" (Note the uppercase "S").
Still checking things...
Your "Smileys" directory's write-protected. That's probably not helping, much...
wow. yeah, I was Never gonna fix this. Note the Capital "N" in Never. So thank you.
No sweat. I just need some FTP stuff, which I've sent you a PM about.
