I'm helping someone running SMF 2.07 and they mentioned a slight annoyance.
If a post contains a URL to a Youtube video that starts with http Just pasting the link makes the video appear in the post. I'm not sure if this is a plugin or what, but it works.
The problem is, Youtube videos now all start with httpS , and unless posters remember to remove the S, their post just contains a link, not the video player.
While there is a Youtube BBC mod installed, I'm not sure that is related, because you don't need to do anything other than copy/paste the video URL, no special BBC tags or anything.. Is this native SMF code? or some mysterious mod that doesn't identify itself as "Youtube" related?
Whatever it is, it seems a slight oversight to parse http.. but not https
It's not native SMF - your "plugin" will be doing the conversion. If it's Aeva then yes, you will need to remove the "s" from https to get it recognised as an embedded video.

Same goes if it's Simple Audio Video Embedder (http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=2681) as well.
you can use Censored words (Admin-> Forum-> Posts and Topics-> Censored Words) to transform the youtube links from https to http ;)
Please contact the mod author for support issues for mods.

https should work with my mod for new versions.
My apologies. It does indeed. :)
Any chance to get Aeva ~ Auto-Embed Video & Audio working with https?!
Ask the author, or use the above mod.
Perfect!
on aeva -- the author will not respond, since he has given up supporting SMF mods.

Confirmed, using the censored word filter as described above works. And my apologies for posting an apparently mod related question here, but at the time I didn't know it was mod related.
If you use https for the forum no youtube video will be shown.
I removed aeva and used the simple mod. Works perfect.
This issue was, when including a youtube URL that started with HTTPS in a post it wasn't being parsed. not the forum site itself using https
But it's an issue if you use https for the forum and only http for youtube. This won't work and videos won't be shown. Tried it already. You have to change the http links to https and they have to be parsed. Then everything works.
Of course it is an issue if you've got that going on - but it's not the issue originally raised in this thread where the forum isn't using HTTPS and the links to HTTPS content don't get picked up properly.
Thats clear ;) but the https links have to be parsed in order to use https on the forum without problems :)
Of course they do, except the OP is not using HTTPS on their forum, making any mention of it largely superfluous.
wow.. yes, you've made the point, however your point is not relevant to this issue.
Additionally... if you want to update aeva for using https, there are instructions on how to do that in the aeva support thread...
