Hello Seniors,
i have a forum where i created post count based groups. now the members only see boards their post count allows them to view. but i want all boards visible to all members in index but when user clicks on particular board he dont have access to it gives him message your post count is low to view this board or something like that. is it possible ?
Not out of the box; SMF is really not designed to show you things that aren't accessible.
View Only Boards (http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=610) might help if you can get it to work.
Or this

;)
Now I am curious. Pete, why didn't you link your own mod?! xD
because it hasn't been updated in a while and more importantly it's even more insane to actually configure.
Last edit 27th January 2014 vs 22/11/2011? Are you kidding me? :O
Insane to configure? Hm. I would like to quote you from that chit chat topic of the other day but it's boring to find the message... "enough complexity and good fliexibility" or something like that, you said. :)
Last edit was simply to update the author back to me.
The quote you're referring to is 'as powerful as possible, as complicated as necessary' and trying to do this with permissions (which means permission *profiles*) is more complicated than necessary.
Yeah whatever I would give it a try anyhow u.u you know better? Yes for sure you do, never claimed the opposite but also I have been told a good thing from CoreISP once, and this time I will quote it

Don't choose for the user, make them decide for themselves whether they understand or not:
Trust me, I did enough support with permission profiles originally that I know full well users have issues configuring it.
HA! I love them instead ♥ but I hate when a mod is based on the "administrator" membergroup only. I mean that if a guy is not in the administrator membergroup despite all the permissions being set up correctly the mod doesn't work as expected. That? That is a thing I hate.
