Title: Mods to prevent spam
Post by: cipals15 on July 15, 2015, 02:45:16 AM
Hi guys,

It's my second time to try Small Machine Forums through GoDaddy and I am on the process of deciding what mods to install to prevent spammers.

Based on the wiki, which one should I use?

If you can also provide an estimated effort time [i.e. 2hrs, 1hrs] from installing to configuration of these mods. It would be very helpful.

Regards.

first of all...  Simple Machines Forum (not small machines)

second... if you are not familiar and competent with networks, you should not use the Forum Firewall mod
third... stop spammer and Stop Forum Spam are the same thing, just done two different ways.
fourth... bad behavior includes httpBL

fifth...  all of the above can be discovered by reading nothing more than the mod description of each...

Six: I wouldn't go with none of them. I read them and probably won't stop the spammers. And I wouldn't want to lose members

they do stop the spammers easily, and if you keep away from stop forum spam they should not stop real members from registering.

personally, I use BadBehavior+httpBL, Stop Spammer and the default feature of questions.
I have had ZERO spammers in the past 2 years (with the exception of the recent spammer question database update, which required new questions)
