You posted this in 2.1 support; what version of SMF are you actually using?
This mod may be what you are looking for- http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=3805
using 2.0.12 and this mod not workabale with all themes :-[
If it doesn't work in your theme, you are probably going to have to manually add the code edits to the files in the theme you are using. Does your theme have its own display.template.php or profile.template.php, as those are the files you are going to have to check in your custom theme.
To see what edits you may need to make, go back to the mod's download page and find "Manual Install Instructions for SMF", then just click the parse tab
