Hi, I am new to smf, Can anyone tell me about best SMF theme for version SMF 2.0.17 in black layout, and responsive as well.I already check here but all are very simple.

Well, there's nothing we can classify as "the best" as it's subjective category, so all we can point you to is the "Most popular themes" which you can see in block on the right side on the Themes page, which you mentioned.
Apart from that I can only suggest to go through Themes site, or search for "responsive" themes, and see which one suits your needs. :)
There are some neat black themes over at CripZone (https://www.jpr62.com/theme/index.php?board=45.0) but I'm not sure if the 2.0.* versions are responsive.
They do have some 2.1 RC2 responsive black themes, for when the time comes for you to upgrade...
I know it's probably not what you want to hear
but you could find a theme that you like that is responsive and then edit it yourself in the css and any images to make it dark
or using the curve theme with the responsive curve mod and then make your own dark theme
There is no "professional" template that is 100% adaptive because most make templates thinking about the modifications that the user will install on site. and they prefer not to break the original smf scheme. if you want one, you have to do it yourself.

Personally the best ones for me were the premium WordPress themes I adapted for SMF but I'm biased :P

Hmm, that's not Crip's original website. AFAIK none of his themes have been updated since Jeff went eol. The one they're running on that site is not responsive.

Same address, different look. Some of his friends were keeping the original running, must have updated it.
Indeed, member Skhilled has taken over control and is modifying themes to suite member's requests [eg, for responsive amendments]
That's good to know. I'm running customized Crip themes on one of my forums (here (http://www.thekrashsite.com/forum/index.php)) and a couple of client forums. He did nice work.
He did indeed :) and Skhilled has taken his work forwards in a way that Jeff would have been proud.

try re-downloading the package, something was wrong with the previous one :-/
(also you can go back to the default theme by adding ?theme=1 to your forum url, example: https://link/forum/index.php?theme=1)
That's odd, that error usually happens if you're in the wrong branch. Attached should install fine in 2.0.17.
