Title: Upgrading times out
Post by: Shades. on August 26, 2021, 03:03:13 PM
Trying to upgrade from 2.0.18 to 2.1RC4 but it keeps timing out between 49-69% complete. I've tried the upgrade download here and the github one. Host tried to help but no resolve...so I guess I gotta wait until the final? I don't know how to do all the command promp php stuff I've read about. The only thing I saw in my cpanel like that was something called "Terminal" and I was afraid to touch that thing..lol! :-[  ;D

I saw this post (https://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=541797.0) but it's from 2015! :o

not sure if it will help but make sure that all of your error logs are cleared out first, might help with some of the timeouts

I cleared the error our first and skipped the backup process cause I have a back up of my own before I started the upgrade.

It stalls out everytime at "Executing: "Updating files that fetched from simplemachines.org" (28 of 71)".

I even tried another time upgrading to RC3 first and it stalled at same spot.

I have one 2.0 forum, but I don't plan to upgrade at this time.
But I think you need to perform these actions before upgrade:

- switch forum to default theme
- set default forum language to English
- uninstall all mods
- repair any errors via Admin => Maintenance => Routine and Admin => Maintenance => Database
- clear File cache
- in cPanel => PHP Manager, increase max_execution_time to 600

I did all of these things to the "T" with no success from 2.0.18 to 2.1RC4. No matter what I tried, the upgrade haulted at #28 "Executing: "Updating files that fetched from simplemachines.org" (28 of 71)"!?

I have since decided to not upgrade but installed a fresh install of 2.0.18 with no mods, and mainly just to clean up all my files so I'm running with no errors. Made a duplicate site with duplicate database (fresh install no mods) and tried to upgrade that to 2.1RC4 and got haulted in same spot #28. It keeps hanging up at "Updating files that fetched from simplemachines.org" (28 of 71)" no matter what I do so I dunno! :(

How many rows of data do you have in smf_admin_info_files?

I swear we just helped someone out with this same issue, & admin_info_files had been truncated somehow...

Same person as shown by this topic (https://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=578466.0) and whatever is in the table is probably wrong, as shown by this topic (https://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=578484.0).

I'm on iPad today so no convenient access to look up what it *should* be but it's wrong currently.
